Not gonna lie. I like the look well made. And is catchy theme song. Cartoon style is good and well made. Little bit bright (to be fair these are old commercial.)

I'll admit, These commercials were pretty great but despite the "Jim Crow" thing and all it's stereotypes about these commercials which might not allow these commercials to air today It's straight up just an amazing trip looking at commerials in an era and time period i never grew up in One thing I'll never understand is that why wasn't any of the crows allowed to drink it? They seem to not have any side effects when the crows drink them since they act the same way they always did and unlike other mascots: Although they go crazy for it, They are completely fine afterwards instead of freaking out the moment it enters their bodies
The high citrus content in Kia-Ora makes it too heavy for most birds' stomachs to safely process, it would create swelling, soreness & could potentially wreck a bird's digestive system. The 'it's too orangey for crows' line was the ad's way of warning kids not to share Kia-Ora with street crows
@@NesGarrickNot for anthropomorphic crows is it poisonous apparently (As implied and shown in the courthouse commercial), Considering all it does is just makes them tipsy and so far turn out ok It's like Trix Rabbit and the dog/wolf in Cookie Crisp, They'll feed that to the real animal counterpart and just see it's side effects as bad and the anthropomorphic talking ones turn out ok somewhat But hey, At least i know why they can't drink it and pretty clever too: Thanks for the explanation Garrick
I have the real song of the most popular Kia Ora advert by the group Caramba (Fedora), but I wonder if the other one at 2:26 is also a real song? If so I would love to know who did it so I can get that one as well. Anyone know?
Genuine question because I'm a dumbass, but what exactly are the "racist" bits of these ads? There are black human characters and then the crows, animated wonderfully with Caribbean vibes for the music. Are they particularly black stereotypes? You've got a kid, a fat guy, a judge, a basketball player, a saxophonist, two crows moving a piano, a washer woman, an invisible crow, a scuba diver... what am I missing here? I sometimes think people just confuse these characters with the crows from Dumbo. But I'm genuinely here to learn, I'm open to hear any opinions on the matter. ...I love these adverts, but I remember being so disappointed as a kid when I discovered Kia Ora tastes like utter bin juice hahahaha
I suspect it is the characterisation of the boy in the straw hat. Also as you suggest the link with the Dumbo crows - so probably a link there. Who knows!!!! Great Ad though
It's copying a style of Racial stereotyping animations from USA.. but it's doubly distressing, because it's a common phrase from New Zealand.. but pronounced the same (incorrect) way as white colonists do. So it's a Māori phrase, used in marketing a product, pronounced wrong, and advertised with a Black American character.
I sent off for the Kia Ora pencil case and ruler set featuring the boy and crow characters and was the envy of my classmates, yay!
However did you do that?
@@harrystoller4147 There was an offer on the bottle labels in the early ‘80s. The ruler was only small, about 10 or 15cm. Think there was a badge too.
@zanducktv2398 I've got the badge! Found it in a junk shop years ago!
I still have my pencil case, think it must have been from 1982/83
I swear, these ads were straight up way ahead of their time for the most part. Now I personally find the product itself intriguing.
The music in the UK charts was mostly shit back when this ad was shown, so I used to savour every second of this when it would come on.
"Too orangey for crows" lol - yes I remember it now.
3:45 "I’ll be your dog!" (Weird squeaking)
I think that's the slug
The first ad is basically like a music video from 1990
Interesting. The ad from 1:55-2:25 reminds me of a 70s to 90s era animated skit from Sesame Street, for some reason.
Not gonna lie.

Ha, never really considered that re the crows. I love the animation on these 80s ads. Thank you for watching
