Sometimes they just get it wrong. Klaus and Caroline should have been together in Vampire Diaries and The Originals. They had the best chemistry out of all the other couples.
Klaus has soft spots for all his family excluding his Esther, Mikael, and Dhalia for obvious reasons but his soft spots and the instant kindness he showed to Caroline and Hope were the same. He loved both the them. He did have soft spots for Camille and Hayley but he never when soft around them like he did around Caroline and Hope.
