  • Is there any slowing down Tadej Pogacar? This is the largest week 2 lead we have seen in the Giro since Eddy Merckx was racing. In theory, Pogacar would be conservative and conserve as much as possible for the Tour de France, however, when he pins on numbers, he races to win.

Pog doesn't need to use his team now. He can sit on Martinez if G goes, if Martinez goes then he sits on G. Both Ineos and Boro will pull him along. Easy street :) Forecast for tomorrow looks terrible!

My theory is Pogi was trying to build a comfortable lead as soon as possible to begin his post-Giro 'recovery' on the 3rd week, to maximise his chances to win TDF. Marginal gains.

I think Pogacar is going to just watch, monitor and see. If the GC riders ends up battling at the finish line and stage win is up for grab, I bet he'll sprint to beat them. It's a most efficient way to win a stage without burning his team and himself. If the opportunity to win a stage is there (without chasing the breakaway all day), he'll fight to win another stage. It's modern cycling you earn your reward by beating them, not gifting them.
