man, I didn't know much about the mechanics of one piece, but watching through this I realize they really took a lot of stuff from duel masters. The life mechanic is shields, including shield triggers. There's tapped and untapped states determining if a character can be attacked, cards have a singular attack power that is compared for everything and isn't reduced like toughness would be. There's designated blockers.
well yeah, a lot of card games take inspiration from mtg. one piece seems to have taken inspiration from a multitude of games and there is nothing wrong with that if the combination is unique enough and the gameplay interesting.
Yeah, also directly thought of the Digimon TCG. Besides the Leader it is soooo similar. It just has a more classic Mana system instead of the memory bar going back and forth.
I've been waiting for one of these card evaluation videos to bridge yugioh and OPTCG for a while, so I guess I'll add some additional info here One Piece is a game about managing a good balance between your hand, life, and field, and all three of these resource areas can blend into one another pretty seamlessly. Farfa seemed to think that the 1k counter on Sogeking was exceptional, but having counter on cards is the standard. Cards without counter don't have it as an explicit balance choice. Because most cards have counter, you can almost always trade hand size to protect your life or field. Life is kinda like Yugioh in that life doesn't really matter until you are approaching lethal range. There are plenty of decks that are fine taking their early life immediately because it lets them see more cards which they can always use to wall up later (or in the case of yellow because they might get tempo or pressure off of triggers). Eventually, low life is bad because it forces you to defend inefficiently or lose suddenly because they have a card which lets them punch through your efforts to wall up (e.g. the Shanks from the video which can't be blocked). Conversely, if you never take hits you might not see enough cards to make your plays. One thing I really like about One Piece is that battle stats have a pretty quantifiable worth in card advantage. If I have a 5k body on field, every turn I get to swing with it (into a 5k leader) I am either getting a hit in or causing him to use a card in hand to counter. A 7k body is either dealing 1 damage or getting 2 cards out of hand (ignoring the battle trap event cards) because counter from hand only goes up to 2k. The numbers change depending on who the target of the attack is, for example, if I'm swinging into a 6k body on board they can now defend from a 7k swing with only 1 2k counter. The "base" statline is pretty much a 3 cost 5k power character with 1k counter, and then you go up 1k power for each cost (4 cost 6k, 5 cost 7k, etc.). What's crazy is that these vanilla statline cards actually see play. When they give a card an effect, they reduce it's power based on how powerful the effect is (or they remove the 1k counter), and there are some decks that prefer the value you get off of a higher statline over the effect sometimes. Honestly, none of the cards here were _that_ bad. Shanks saw a little bit of experimentation in RP Luffy in set 4.5 (post Whitebeard banlist). Rush is good on top end and it's an OK finisher. Most red decks either don't play much top end or have better finishers, but it _could_ see play if we got more late game focused red decks. The problem is that it's now competing with 2 different 10 drop Shanks, 10 drop Red Luffy, 9 drop Newgate, 8 drop Dragon, and 8 drop Rayleigh for Red top end whereas before it was just 9 drop Newgate. Sogeking was played a little in set 4.5 by Blue Crocodile. The problem is it has always had direct competition with Doflamingo who is 7k and bounces a 7 but has no counter. If we saw a Blue deck that desperately needed more consistency or did something with cards in trash (in a way other than Nami) it could see play, but that seems like an even bigger cope than 9 drop Shanks. Kingdom Come and RP Law really only are busted in the context of their deck. I don't see yellow decks other than Enel, a deck which is almost constantly at 1 life and absolutely loves removal, playing kingdom come in the future. It took 4 sets straight of insane support in three different areas (Purple 4s that re-ramp, power reduction, and generically insane 4 drop red and Purple cards like Reiju and Kid/Killer) before it was good. The problem is that now they'll never be able to print generic red or purple 4s until it gets banned, Deramping 3 don is a HUGE cost, but after 4 (soon to be 5) sets straight of support, RP Law just got enough resource cheating to ignore it and once that hill was crossed the deck was insane. Gecko is just insane
RP Law is only busted in the context of their deck because he is his deck? So yeah, he's generally busted because his deck revolves around him and his ability. Saying he's only good because of support is insane because there's only 1 other Red or Purple decks in the meta (Reiju). He's busted because he makes that support better than any other Red or Purple deck can. Also RP Law was good when he came out, but then Sakazuki, Black and Yellow all got much better and he dropped off in usage.
Also nobody played Shanks cos 5c Luffy was better. If you stacked an extra 4 don on him he had the same power as Shanks for the same price, but would ignore all blockers not just small ones. It was just a plain bad card overshadowed by stuff even in the very first set.
I would love to see Farfa try to play one piece and get a feel for the game. Would be very interesting to see a Yu-Gi-Oh players first though on a different style of card game.

Great video, but I feel like there is so much important things Darren hasn't told, like red decks being able to reduce power of some cards or telling him how the combat even works in advance is a bit weird.
-Shanks: he's not terrible because he's a hi cost for an aggro color. Edward Newgate is a cost 9 red character and saw tons of play in Red. Shank is just suboptimal to many better things you may be playing. Unfortunately he has no synergy with other cards since there are no other Red Haired pirates around in the game yet. Rush unblockable it's pretty good (see St-01 Luffy), maybe in futute he may find a home. Although power creep is a thinh in OP tcg as well. -Raigo (the Enel card): saying you wait to be at 1 life to drop Raigo in Enel is incorrect. Prolly you wont use it if youre at 3+ lifes since you would waste a lot of card advantage by not taking those lifes you would be trashing. But Enel is so hard to kill although he struggles at removing anything with a cost of 8 or more, while he can deal with anything else pretty easily. Thus even if you end up trashing a life (even two) and not doing anything too crazy in your turn, while getting rid of a fat cost 10 threatening your leader and your characters on board is pretty valuable. -Sogeking: poor boi lmao. Upon release he saw some experimentation but Blue was so bad. And once blue became decent (even one of the best colors considering multicolor leaders) he was shadowed by cards doing similar things but being part of better archetypes. Sad story. This might look Aramaic to non OpTGC players, but just to show there's so much complexity in this game.

it just came to me that if you ask a boomer how they think a "popular" and "click bait" thumbnail looks like nowadays they will describe something like farfa's thumbnails... you know... pog face with over saturated colors and all of that.. yeah fellow kids am i right?
I play both
Yugioh elder is closer
The video would have been better if Farfa had bothered to atleast research the rules of the game.
Pro?
Since when is Sogeking trash? Sogeking and 9cost Mihawk were the first cards you added to any blue deck last time i played the game (around the release of op05)
Mihawk Is still decent to play in boa or doffy, but sogeking became pretty mid.
@Tegamone310 it feels pretty wierd to call the card complete trash in the video when it has been good before and just fell off. He didn't even mention that it used to see play. Disrespecting my boy Sogeking 😞
why’s everyone getting mad about farfa calling himself a pro, he’s better than 99 percent of the player base and it gets more views give the man a break
They are all just playing a prank on him. Also if he is better than 99% of the player base then why am I not famous?
Yugioh pro ?
Hmm?
Shanks? Bad? No it’s dependent
Pro??
One Piece
1 view he has fallen off
Everyone is so tilted that you called yourself a Yu-Gi-Oh pro but you get paid money to play and advertise the game. Seems like jealousy to me.
First 200 viewers 😊
It's just worse digimon
Worse and skill less game, also in best of 1 so Is pretty luck based.
I Will Say Is as competitive as uno
@@Tegamone310you know what’s funny I heard someone say the same thing about digimon when compared to magic, yugioh and pokemon
@@reezgaming1475 Yeah bandai game are pretty bad, if you teach tò a pro magic player tò play One of them he Will at least enter the top 3.
@@Tegamone310 the even funnier thing is I’ve heard all of that said about Pokémon, yugioh and magic when compared to stuff like playing poker, black jack or any non anime themed card game
It’s all relative at the end of the day
