Notice that no one but the detective ever speaks to Weasle directly. Throughout the entire series everyone has only talked about him right to his face. He can't even prove his innocence because he's non verbal. He'll always be dehumanized because he can't express himself. To everyone Weasel is simply "chasing squirrels". His story is a horror. Forever misunderstood. Eternally alone.
I think that's his lawyer. Trying to prove that he's innocent. Detectives really don't try to prove their co-workers wrong after someone has been convicted.

Her saying "what ? It's hungry!" And that changing the boys tune absolutely touched my heart. It's so realistic. Children believe what their parents tell them is right, but once he realized what she said made sense, he decided to change his own morality in that moment. Kids do it everyday and don't realize they're forming the building blocks for their future selves.
There was some chatter when The Suicide Squad came out that it sounded like a fishy story. Like, he's exactly the kind of creature stuff would get pinned on, because he's creepy and he can't defend his name.

James Gunn has became like the equivalent of Pixar. Making us feel for a raccoon, a tree, a giant starfish, a narcissistic mercenary who wears a toilet seat for a helmet and now a weasel.
There's 12 kids on the play ground and only 8 of them died. I guess nobody listened to the other 4 about what kind of person Weasel was, maybe his lawyer.
Weasel kind of gives me Ice King vibes, in the way that their both dudes who have a past that was pleasant, but have just straight up forgotten and have gone feral.
Well, for weasel, idk if he is mutated, born or scientifically created in a unfortunate way that he was made into. Not to mention that he was hiding, and when those kids helped him, give him company and he enjoyed the joyful events that he had with his new friends, only to watch them get killed.
He got justice when the Gotham Cops became less corrupt with the arrival of the only good police officer in fictional history: *Commissioner Jim Gordon*
I bet the lawyer is the first girl who ran away up the steps.. they look very similar and it would explain why she trusts him. She probably grew up with the injustice of what happened to her friends and Weasel, and became a lawyer to save him. Also, it fits the timeline because Weasel seemed to be a kid himself when he was arrested, he was barely bigger than the kids… maybe 5 foot, but now he’s well over 6 foot when he’s not hunched over.. So that tells me that he was probably not much older than those kids when they found each other and because of what happened he never really got a chance to learn and grow up properly because he was just locked away like an animal. So there’s time for the little girl to grow up and become a lawyer.
Honestly, he wanted to be surrounded with the company of friends that are nice to him, and honestly, the way he was put into that cell, makes me wish we could at least have someone teach him how to write or sign.
At least Weasel met humans who are nice to him, such as those kids who died and his attorney. That furball will always find people who are nice to him.😊
Something about the fact this is probably the first time we've seen him show a different facial expression that isn't smiling with unfocused eyes makes this scene all the more sadder

Weasel then tries to save the little girl in this video from the fire and the police show up and shoot him instead forcing him to drop the girl who then dies in the fire when the roof collapses on her while weasel is looking at her and letting out heartbreaking screams while the police restrain him On the floor. Weasel is then blamed for the death of all the kids and sent to prison even tho he was innocent the whole time and just wanted to play ball with the kids who were nice to him.
For the person above; spoilers. So weasel was actually friendly to the children. But what happened was while playing in the boiler room of the school. They accidentally caused a huge fire. Killing all the kids except for one, weasel tried to save the last kid. But was mistaken as the one who killed the kids in the first place. There was some other lore but that’s all I know

To think the whole him being in jailed for murdering and eating children was used as a short of black comedy throwaway gag in the movie The Suicide Squad. Man how that became retroactively depressing once we saw the actual backstory.
I felt so bad for weasel. It's pure brilliance on how Gunn can make us feel so much emotion for just about any character that he puts on screen.......animated or live action 😢

The sound design here was immaculate. It starting sinister, making you think yhis is the lead in to his crime, only for it to blossom into the song that will later on play showing us his innocence. It really makes this small, slightly comedic scene have so much more strength.
I just find this crazy that people see the human struggle or give the benefit of the doubt to a creature that was a victim of circumstance... in contrast to the reality of people dealing with real life issues very similar to Weasel... I guess he's perfect to showcase some one without a voice and how easily people judge you on they way you look or demographic status.

No idea, it’s never explained what this version of Weasel is. We don’t know if he is a mutated human or a weasel that was experimented on as escaped the lab. John is a generic name in the states, often used as a slang to describe some Random guy. So maybe Weasel was named John by people in order to prosecute him.
Seeing this episode along with the trailer for Superman (2025) gives a good idea on why the first chapter of this new cinematic universe is Gods and Monsters

Well, Snyder could learn one or two things about narrative from Gunn. I cannot think of any moment from MoS, BvS, or The Justice League (Snyder cut) that felt so emotional as this episode or episode 3, even Superman´s death in BvS was very intrascendental to his whole universe.
I like how the “eating kids” bit was played for laughs at first since Weasel is supposed to be the comic relief, only to turn out to be tragic. Honestly, the way Weasel behaved around the people in the castle in the first episode I thought “I don’t know. He doesn’t show much aggression.”
I had a similar idea: you have a bunch of superheros/villains with various powers, you have scientists with insane levels of tech (they made GI Robot in the 40's, for crying out loud), and somehow, no one thought "hey, you know how we have a trial for an humanoid animal who is unable to verbalize himself? Maybe, in order for him to have a fair trial, we should invent some machine that recalls his memories and projects it on the screen for the jury to see, or perhaps we should find someone who can read his mind, or maybe someone can invent some tech that converts his brainwaves into words that we can understand?" Really seems like someone should have thought of that...
Unironically destruction of objects that have significance to a person is a sign of depression and coping, people who loose family members generally keep their stuff, but some people who are effected too heavily may end up destroying items that bring back the memories in order to cope, so him eating the photo is a joke in of itself as well as a sign of coping, he simply doesn’t want to remember, he would rather just stay quiet than bring back trauma.
mind you the origin story ISN"T an origin story. it's a flashback. we have NO idea where he came from. he sure as heck isnt a human in a suit like the original one in comics.
