Bali's Day of Silence - What is Nyepi and why does it happen?

Bali's Day of Silence (Nyepi) is a Hindu tradition observed as the traditional New Year according to the Balinese Saka calendar. I was lucky enough to be in Bali for Silent Day (Nyepi) and thought I would share what happens in the lead up and during the day itself (for tourists).
