Only thing i would say you really missed, and the instructions owners manuel etc miss it too. If you have a side tank, you dont reconnect "HOSE B" to it until you are all done and ready to make ice. Side tank isnt cleaned this way, but instead by hand.
Thank you so much for making these tutorials for the GE Opal ice machine! I would not have been able to even do the initial setup using the manufacturer's paper instructions. Your video made it so easy to setup & now I'm ready to do the 1st cleaning, thanks to you!
I love how they say the bleach is for "de-scaling"....it's not, it's to kill mold. They had MAJOR problems with the first gen models and mold build up. Keep a very close eye on this. Wipe out your reservoir tank with a paper towel each time...if you see ANY brownish residue on the paper towel, that's mold. Your machine will need to be completely disassembled and the upper reservoir (inside the machine) will have to be thoroughly cleaned or ideally, replaced.
I have been cleaning my ice machine since September 4 it’s still has scale particles coming out. I’ve descaled it, vinegar & nickel scale. Any suggestions
Bleach does not kill mold. To get rid of mold, you first spray hydrogen peroxide to kill the mold, then follow up with bleach to clean the area. I assure this is correct after having to hire a company to come to my home the get rid of the mold in my entire attic. Along with doing a good job, they also educated me on the process.
I’ve been feeling my throat weird for a couple of weeks, I couldn’t find the souce, and then my brother in law pointed out that the tubes looked brownish…. I took the opal (first version) apart and all the tubes were full with mold… It was disgusting, I’ll make sure to clean it more regularly with bleach from now on
@@arsenaultkenthat’s not even close to being true. Bleach kills mold and mold remediation companies are a scam. They get rid of mold but jack the price up 10x
Do not wait for the cleaning light to come on it needs to be cleaned every couple of weeks. The tubes get gunk and mold in the hoes and water has to pass through it
Make note that when you disconnect the hose from the side tank, residual water in the base of the side tank will also drain. Be ready to catch that or it will drain all over your counter.
@@bethdevine4160the side tank uses the b hose that's on the back of the tank per the instructions. Which he had hooked up like it wasn't installed. Not a big deal but it was misleading.
I actually don't recommend removing the filter. If you accidentally have any larger items that get sucked in it could cause issues. I do recommend removing the bottom filter and cleaning it though then putting it back in before adding the bleach solution
@@antionneedwards6728 It's the little square plastic part that has a metal screen on it in the reservoir. You simply lift it up and it should pop off. Take a picture of it before you remove it because there's a top to it and it slants a particular way.
@Giantsave I do sometimes, but all depends on my demand for ice. I would be logical to make the ice you need put it in the freezer and only run when you need to. Although use distilled water and clean weekly and you should be fine if you leave it running. The downside is that you will be using a lot of distilled water.
It’s dirty. Clean and descale it before mold builds. No matter what water you use if you don’t clean the machine scale will build up and mold could as well. Save yourself the trip to the doctor
You don't really need to do this unless you run it with hard tap water and need to descale the internal parts with vinegar every 3 months or so. IMO bleach would be too harsh on the internal components and more risk than it's worth. Vinegar would clean it out just fine if you even need to clean it at all. If you don't want to do all this then just use distilled water jugs costs me around 8$ per month to keep it filled for my entire family with sidtilled water and the machine will run alot longer and cleaner over time. I do the same thing with keurigs to prevent them from breaking.
Do you have a hose connected to your side tank or no? Because I’m confused as to have both hoses hooked up to clip thing, or have one hooked up there, and one to the side tank.
One tube is labeled “Tube B Side tank” This tube attaches to the side tank. He did not show him reconnecting it in this video. You don’t want the cleaning procedure to go through the side tank.
Cleaning and de scaling you keep both tubes in the plug position. If you hook it to the side tank, once you unhook it to drain, it will drain from both tubes AS WELL AS the side tank nozzle. Makes a big mess
Mine sounds the same way. It started doing it a few months after getting it. It is so loud! I will clean it tomorrow and I’m hoping that will take care of it.
Thank you! I find that if I remove the bottom filter and put my finger in front of the hole, it corrects....clears an air bubble or something. We love this machine!
Can you describe what you mean by "flat in the back" for the tubing? I understand about how toconnect Tube B to the side tank, but not sure how to make this "flat".
After cleaning my cleaning light just blinks. When I add the fresh water and plug it back in, the cleaning just starts again and after the 3 minutes it stops and blinks again.
@@lindaschmelzer1551 I had the same issue until I logged into the app. I "turned off" the machine on the app but the machine didn't actually turn off. This did, however, stop the blinking cleaning lights?!?!
I see that happen when I fill it but the ice output is full then melts into the resevior making it overflow. I solved the leaking by placing a cookie sheet under the ice maker. Easier to clean and I don't worry about leaks or overflows anymore.
Your video was marginally helpful. You skipped steps and for those hooked tons side tank we had floods because you did NOT show how the side tank tube should be properly removed. This process is not rocket science however doesn’t mean that you should skip steps when illustrating how to do something. Plus when I put my life back and reconnected it also started to “clean” again. Sorry but a big miss here.

I’ll say this for everyone watching - THE ICE MAKER WILL NOT FULLY DRAIN WITHOUT DISCONNECTING BOTH TUBES AND DRAINING THEM. Idiotic design.

Thank you for a well informative video, Great job!!!
For those concerned about scaling. I use a zero water filter for ice making. The best I’ve found.
Great tutorial.. Thank you.. Just cleaned this exact model after I saw this video.. Happy Holidays
This was super helpful! Thank you!
Instead of bleach. Can you use vinegar? Just like coffee machines.
This guy is a GODDAMNED HERO. Thank you for your service.🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you. Really makes the process seem simple.
You did address removing and cleaning the filter in the back left corner of the water reservoir, when should it be cleaned?
Super helpful. Thank you!
EXCELLENT demo!!!
Just finished this, easy peazy!

Yes, thanks for the tip. Very important
This happened to me just a couple days ago lol water EVERYWHERE 😂
Thank you. Great video
Did you not have the side tank hooked up? You should've had one hose going there and one to the back of the unit.
So tell me if you are using the side tank, how do you have both tubes hooked to the back of the machine? Very misleading.
😂 I was wondering, exactly the same thing.
I agree! There is a step missed
The side tank has its own part that goes into the maker 😅itself. The side tank is additional so those two are just for the main part of the ice maker

You show putting both tubes back into the machine to run the clean cycle. But how does the base of the side tank get cleaned?
I think you just wash the side tank by hand.
I took mine out and washed it by hand.
Soap and water, shake, and rinse
I put mine in the dishwasher
Thank you for the video. Question - only the side tabk hose drains water each time. The other hose doesn't drain anything. Is it broken?
I'm assuming it is made to do this. Mine is the same way.
Thanks! Only additional recommendations: Remove the filter in the reservoir before beginning the process.
How do you remove the filter
I actually don't recommend removing the filter. If you accidentally have any larger items that get sucked in it could cause issues. I do recommend removing the bottom filter and cleaning it though then putting it back in before adding the bleach solution

I don't think mine came with a (top) filter. Should I be concerned?
Should I use only distilled water to make ice? I hear it keeps the machine from having as much buildup.
That's what use and no issues with any kind of build-up. Just keep doing your cleaning cycle intervals as required, and you should be fine.
How often should I do the cleaning ?
@Giantsave GE says once a week.
@ do you leave it on 24/7 ?

I’d the cleaning alert based solely on ice produced ? How do you descale?
Vinegar and water. Instructions in the owners manual. I use distilled water. It helps keep scale down.
Mine keeps saying to add water, but both lines are flat against the back, and I removed the fitler
I use RO water in mine. So I don't think it is dirty. Just want the flashing clean to stop

What kind of bleach? Would I be using disinfecting bleach?

Does your make a noise similar to a goat being tortured? Mine is terrible not sure why it screams and howls like it does!
Mine sounds kind of like an ice maker in a fridge. I don't think it sounding like a goat is normal. You may need to contact the manufacturer

Mines been screaming for 2 years...still does...always freaks my friends out 😂
That’s scale build up. Use a descaling solution and then run fresh water through it for 5 cycles
Mine keeps saying "add water" even though it has plenty. It won't make ice or complete a clean cycle. Any advice?
Make sure your hose is flat in the back. (The hose connected to side tank). I had the same issue.
@linz0115 Same! I solved it by making sure the hose to the side tank was flat on the surface all the way to the side tank.
