Linda, this was a wonderful collection of information tidbits. The only thing I would add would be home and personal security. Thanks for participating.
Thanks very much for participating in the preparedness challenge! Enjoyed going thru your list of preps, my biggest prep hole is water filtration, I have not yet managed to swing the cost of a water filtration system, am running out of time before year end, and I would use one gallon of water just to get my hair wet I have learned pressure canning this year and my focus was protiens. Enjoy preserving your tomato harvest!
Skills are so important...need to hone them so that we are ready to go if need be and enjoy some of these skills as daily habits and or hobbies. Thank you for great information and advice.
A lot of great advice Linda! I think water is the biggest concern. Second is electricity issues. I can’t get hubby onboard with solar even when I tell him how beneficial it would be in running the barn/cattle needs. Congrats on the almost 200k subs!
Here’s hoping hubby comes around. Bob is always good about letting me do what I feel we need. When the Big C hit and he realized we weren’t part of the crazy, he really jumped on board. Now he sends me video links to check out and is always quick to ask if I need more than one of something when I put an item in the buggy. He also doesn’t give me an odd look when I say I need a case of something. 😂 Something will click with him. Be patient. Be safe, Be prepared, Be blessed
Thank you for the information. We have watched you for a long time and have learned a lot from you. Have made a few mistakes along the way. Thanks again
Hi Linda. I've been following you for years. The first video of yours I watched was Sage having her first litter. You were the one who taught me how to can. Now, thanks to you, we have turned a small spare bedroom into our extended pantry. It is full of jars of home canned produce plus supermarket items. We even have a shelf for cleaning products and personal care items. It's mostly all down to you so I just wanted to thank you. I feel we are prepared if we have to go without supermarkets for some time.
Thank you, I have learned so much from this channel, it's my favorite go to when I need to can up something and these preparedness videos are also just loaded with need to know information. Thank you for everything you share with us so glad you are part of the collab.
Very imformative. Thank you for making this video. Reminds me of something I was wanting to add to our preparation, which will come in handy as a hurricane may come near us and I'm going through my check list. Keep the videos coming.
The one thing I learned the hard way with regards to seeds. In my experience, they didn't like being outside. I had them in a container on a semi-enclosed porch. So they got freezing in the winter and hot in the summer. Most didn't survive the temp changes. I'm now keeping them inside a plastic container.
Thank you and everyone for all your help with being prepared. I agree about the water. I don’t believe I have enough either. And I want to install a water catch system as well. I stumbled on Canuary a couple years ago and that had been a life changer. I had never canned or preserved anything until then. I’m still learning so much. I really appreciate all of y’all!! Thank you!!
Very good point about having enough canning jars and lids on hand in case the freezer stops working. That happened to us and we moved like lightening canning the meats! Saved a ton of money in losses!
Every time I say I need to pick up jars, Bob asks if I don’t have enough jars downstairs LOL Once I’m caught up on the immediate prepping, I’d like to start canning up what’s in the freezer. Keep in mind, if the power goes out, cover your fridge/ freezer with blankets, quilts or sleeping bags. If you stay out of the unit, everything should be safe for up to 4 days. I freeze milk jugs of water in both of our freezers. This helps retain the cold and should I need to move condiments/ milk/ eggs to a cooler for quick access without getting in the fridge, I have ‘ice blocks’ to put in the cooler as needed. When those jugs thaw, I have water to boil for drinking. Be safe, Be prepared, Be Blessed
We are planning on doing rain catchment too. We are unrestricted and are starting to collect things now. Until we have the roof/gutter system we will have to haul water. We have and use an Alexapure already that we use daily, and we plan on installing a “whole house” style filter once we get there. Eventually we will see about a well. But where we are moving to, there isn’t city or rural water at all. The money we would have had to spend on getting connected and piping to the house will go toward the set up of the system. Thank you for all the wonderful ideas!!!
I have to make my dogs food because they are allergic to chicken (which most dogs are) but you can’t find affordable dog food without some sort of chicken in it. Great ideas to work on for my prepping stores. Thank you for sharing.
I've been buying one oil lamp and one large bottle of lamp oil every month for awhile now. I have one for every room in the house now and plenty of oil. I have candles too but I prefer the oil lamps.
This such a great video, for some of us we don't have the funds or resources to do a hard core prep. I love that they do I learn alot from them. But you showed that you also need to be sure to take a look at your skill sets and you weak area You pointed out so many things and gave some great thoughts and ways to do this. Your NoW is the TIME to Learn is a great theme. Thank you for sharing this.
Thanks for participating in this collab! I also have food set aside for my pets. Canned and freeze dried! I didn’t know that about rosemary and thyme for them. Great info!
My grandpa used to sundry his apples in the Kentucky sun on his farm ❤️so many things I’ve learned from these channels and so much more to learn. Glad I’ve stumbled upon this preparedness channels like of likeminded folks
Hi Linda. Thanks for participating in this collaboration. You are so right that we need to assess the things we have and make sure we’re as prepared as possible. You never know what life has in store for us. We can at least give each other a fighting chance by sharing the knowledge we have. This collaboration has made me think about things. You would think we would have learned from 2020, but there are still some people who have not. I know I’ve learned a lot from this collaboration and I appreciate everyone who has taken time to share the knowledge they have.
Well, loved you before, but between this preparedness talk and your history with horses( my main love!) You have moved up the ladder on my list of favorites! Thank you!🎉
Great video Linda. Tons of good advice. We try to stay prepped up because we live up in the NC mountains and power outages and heavy snows are common..
Hi Linda I’m covered on everything but solar . The new roof took priority. But solar is still on the list. PS I make my dog food too. My shepherd is 120 pounds. I have a standing order at the butcher for pork liver. Thanks for your video
Water is a huge issue for us. Not much anywhere close and there’s a lot of people that would be after what there is. One 50 gallon plastic barrel won’t last long and no space for much more. I usually have quite a few cases of water but haven’t been able to carry them to the basement for storage/rotate due to some medical stuff.
Consider what you might be able to store under the bed, behind the sofa, etc. Cover a case with an inexpensive pillow and a nice piece of fabric and you have a comfy place to put your feet up. Best of all, no hauling to the basement. The bottles will be handy when you need them. If you need to open the case, pick up or bring one up from wherever you keep the bulk to have handy. Be safe, Be prepared, Be Blessed
Linda this was a Fantastic Find this morning! I just came down after digging out Chicken Legs & Thighs that I had in the freezer bought on a Great deal to get a huge pot going to make Bone Broth. Broth from the 1st cooking process & then Stock with the 2nd 24 hour simmer to have to make Chicken Pot Pie Soup. Well here you are & your talking about what was laid on my heart & mind! Thank You! Will be binge watching now as the Broth is cooking.Great points to go on, the Water issue is on my mind here too.
Good morning, Linda For those green tomatoes. If you like Fried Green tomatoes, you can slice and can into wide mouth pint jars with water and a tsp. Of salt . Fill with cool water, and water bath can. Bring to rolling boil and boil 3-5 minutes.. When you want to fry them, drain then drain on newspapers topped with a couple layers of paper towels or a kitchen towel. I let mine drain about an hour then coat/ fry as usual. Be safe, Be prepared, Be Blessed
Linda thank you I decided that for me water is my one important preparedness item I have lots of the things you memtioned so Thank you for all these things
A somber realistic message for the unprepared, as in me. I have holes in many places. Thank you Linda for your video. Thank you. I have to try to fill some holes. I'm concerned.
A simple Presto Canner found in Walmart comes with an instruction book that goes by the USDA instructions. It's only the basics, no big recipes except for pressure cooking. This is a good beginner canner but it is also a workhorse and will last many years.
I struggle with figuring out how much we need and rotating through things. But I started stocking the pantry in 2022. So, need to find our family needs. I have potted meat and Spam, but my family is spoiled and probs won't eat it unless it's necessary.
You mentioned lids, and so I decided to use half Tattler lids on my batch of raw-pack chicken today to conserve my stock of lids. I use your system of marking the Tattler rings. Thanks, Linda!
A gallon of water per day is not enough! My water was turned off for a few hours recently and it was shocking to me to see how many times I reached for the tap. Water is the hardest thing to have enough of. Finding water and transporting will be a challenge too
Have your pharmacy order in a BOX of steri strips. Not the cheapest thing, but SO useful. Laceration glue. Tubes of Bacitracin with zinc ointment. ...just a few wound suggestions and CAN some sterile water or sterile saline.....one teaspoon salt in a quart of water.
Lacking a freeze dryer to go to next level prepping. I need to get more Berkey filters. With rising food costs, I've depleted some things and need to replace those items. Perhaps get a surgical kit, if my daughter can handle the task of that. Great video and collaboration!
I’ve been doing the same and have followed you and followed the collaborations for Canuary. I also have done some no spend months and those really tell you what you want towards the end of the month especially… so I’m doing ok but I do need a few more items to store up again. Happy canning:)
Thanks for this information. I'm working on skills. Have a granddaughter thats baking bread and has made butter. I'm working on tinctures and learning more on this and herbs. Definitely need more water. I have a filter container but need more filters. I've canned several things in a pressure canner.
Due to the state of the world right now, we're planting our first ever Fall garden and we're going all out with veggies! Potatoes, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, peas, turnips, mustard greens, collards, lettuce, carrots, onions, herbs, and more.
I'm old and live in a Senior Mobile Home Park. We kind of take care of each other. I pressure can and my neighbor water bath cans, so we share jars. Who knows what will happen in November, but I have what I can keep in a little space
We're prepared for hurricane season. We live in south alabama 69 miles from the gulf. So this time of year always make sure your stocked for atleast 1 month without electricity
We’ve been working on our water prep, good on food, household back up heat and light. I don’t garden. We live in an apartment and have tried so many times to have a patio garden with no luck. We’ve spent too much money trying to grow inside with grow lights with no success! Seems to be our Achilles heel! We’ll keep trying though. Great information though, thanks so much!
We have an old wringer. Water is our problem, we don't have any water by us. I'm trying to buy up and can an extra qt or two when I have a small batch in the canner. I save our liquid laundry jug. Add water, there's enough residue to at least have something to clean hands or laundry. I also have home made laundry soap ready.
Thank you for all this information. I need to learn to make cat food ! We are working on the water situation right now.I do have 2 rain barrels but they are more for the garden .❤ I agree I always think I dont have enogh saved back .
I have canned a little! I got scared and didn’t finish them because of botulism! The % of botulism from home canning is suppose to be very very low! I need to work on that skill!
When it comes to water I was thinking of canning up some since I have plenty of empties and maybe use used lids cause if they don't seal I'm not losing anything.
Thanks Linda! Great work on the collaboration🤝
Linda, this was a wonderful collection of information tidbits. The only thing I would add would be home and personal security. Thanks for participating.
Right On! 👊 Not just about food and water, but knowing how to maintain that flow!
I often forget about extra water for pets! Thanks for the reminder!😊
Thank you, Linda! This video is full of so much great info and reminders!!
It is always good to be prepared for whatever may come down the pike. operations, job loss, etc. thank you for sharing .

I started gardening last year and have an abundance of seeds!!❤

Good reminder that we need skills as well as gear! We need to test the gear and know how it works.
Thank you for all of this information. I’ve got about 80% covered but still have more to work on.
Very thorough video full of great information. Water is also an area that I need to improve on. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Linda, great information!

I make my own dog food as well! Thanks for such great information! You've really got a lot covered!! That's amazing! 😊

Thanks for all the advice. There is always something we don't think of
Yes! This collaboration #30 Days of Preparedness is informative and eye opening. Thank you Linda.
Thank you, I have learned so much from this channel, it's my favorite go to when I need to can up something and these preparedness videos are also just loaded with need to know information. Thank you for everything you share with us so glad you are part of the collab.
Great information enjoyed it❤
I have a glass washboard, and I have used it when nessaecery . Enlarging my library. Thanks for sharing.

I’d love to add a Berky to my household this next year.
Thank you Linda for refreshing us on what we need to stock up on😊
Thank you! Great info and reminders. I'm doing alot of assessment right now.

Very sensible approach to preparing. I agree. I need to do better with water. Just have to do it. Thanks 👍
After watching this video, I now know what needs worked on(water). Thanks for all the great info and doing these videos, so helpful!
Great information Linda - thank you. I need to get busy on water, etc.

Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge.
Keeping on trying to develop skills in areas I am less proficient at. Thanks for another informative video.
I am also working up a huge batch of tomatoes today. Busy trying to find and fill holes in my pantry. Thanks for the reminder about water.

I need to get my rain barrels put back together now that the huskies are past the chew up weird stuff stage.
I really need a water filtration system. There is so much I need to do.

Hi Linda can not forget our pets
Yes people learn how to use all the things you stockpile.
Due to the state of the world right now, we're planting our first ever Fall garden and we're going all out with veggies! Potatoes, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, peas, turnips, mustard greens, collards, lettuce, carrots, onions, herbs, and more.

Thank for the reminders.
I'm old and live in a Senior Mobile Home Park. We kind of take care of each other. I pressure can and my neighbor water bath cans, so we share jars. Who knows what will happen in November, but I have what I can keep in a little space

You have made me realize some holes in my preps.
I've been working on stocking water the last couple of weeks.Trying to find more spaces to put them now.
I am interested in knowing more about the compost in your raised beds.
I have canned a little! I got scared and didn’t finish them because of botulism! The % of botulism from home canning is suppose to be very very low! I need to work on that skill!
Now I know how to make a good dog food. This was bothering me. Thank you.
Sometimes I feel like I'm never going to get the gardening skill down. Won't stop trying though.
When it comes to water I was thinking of canning up some since I have plenty of empties and maybe use used lids cause if they don't seal I'm not losing anything.
Great idea
