    Hi Everyone, this is both exciting and nerve wracking for us, a new and different idea. What do you think? let us know in the comments and share with friends!

    I'm loving 2GoRoam on so many levels! So inspirational, so relatable, great transparency, love your sense of humour (missing your hilarious end-of-video "freeze frame!")
    LOVING the Canadian dollar conversions, geeking out at your detailed speadsheets, and eagerly anticipating every new video.
    Keep up the great work, and hope to cross paths with you both when we start our own slow travel life! 😃😍😎

    • @2GoRoam
      @2GoRoam  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Starlite!
      That is a very cool names, intriguing! Thank you so much for taking time to comment and we are over the moon to hear this kind of feedback. More than anything we try hard to be relatable and as transparent as we possibly can be. Also when it comes to humour, it is how we tick... Life throws enough problems to us all but we will try to see the fun in almost anything. Thank you for letting us know you appreciate that. We liked doing that freeze frame, who knows we might bring that back one day... but we had a few comments from people that just didn't get it and asked what we were doing lol.
      Absolutely would love it if our paths cross when you start your travels. Stay in touch and keep close!
      Best wishes

    Sincerely appreciate your hard work in putting this video together. Every few years, in my working days, we used to take a longish 6 week vacation, which prepared us for early( relatively speaking) retirement. And yes, we too maintained a target daily budget. Please continue this useful series. Am now following you on FB. Wishing you all the best!

      Hey Pushkar!
      You are most welcome, please enjoy the journey with is. That is a good idea to do a 6 week break to trial your retirement, that is a great little hack!
      Thank you for your very kind comment.

    LOVE the weekly budget checkin. My partner and I are planning your style of retirement (y'all are just 8 years ahead of us). Seeing your spending is really helpful and interesting.
    I am not surprised you have deleted Ukraine from your upcoming destinations. The political situation is definitely not what you want to deal with on a slow travel trip!
    In Romania, you might want to check out Cluj Napoca. I spent an afternoon there, and it was not nearly enough time.
    Question for you two: What do you do for travel health insurance? Is it included in your annual spend budget?

    • @2GoRoam
      @2GoRoam  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Nabil!
      That is exciting to hear you are on the same path, you can watch us make all the mistakes so that you don't have to :-)
      So we have this spreadsheet where we record recommendations from our viewers. Cluj Napoca has just gone onto that list, thank you!
      Health insurance is a really good question and there is some stuff going on here at the moment in Greece where this information may well be useful for all. We may mention something next wednesday, we will see how our scripting goes but we can confirm that we WILL be making a video that will be all about healthcare (a Saturday video) by the end of January so watch that space!
      Thanks again for getting in touch, your comment means more to us than you likely realise.
      Best wishes

    Great stuff, really smart and my compliments on your Excel work Neil! You two are adventurers to be sure, whereas Jane and I are looking forward to traveling a couple of weeks at a time while maintaining our home residence. But everything you are giving us is perfect to help us decide where we want to go, how to get there and what yo do once there! Part of the reluctance people have to travel is the unknown and you two are unpacking it! A very big THUMBS UP!

      Thank you SO much for your wonderful comment! We love to hear that we can inspire others whilst doing something that we LOVE to do too! So pleased that you found this video useful and great to have you on our journey!

    Great video! Thanks Neil and Sarah! Loads of helpful information here and we are particularly impressed by your spreadsheet. Is that something you would consider selling at some point? We’ve seen other FIRE budgets but not one built for such extensive travel.
    We, too, have sold our home and almost all of our belongings as we start our early retirement life. We’ve never felt so free! We closed on the sale of our house last Monday, just missing this week’s snow storm in Washington, DC. It would have been so stressful to be landlords while dealing with power outages and downed trees from afar (we’re currently in Texas). We’re grateful not to have that obligation! Plus, for us, selling made so much more financial sense.
    Thanks again for the new format and for always thinking of ways to keep your videos fresh!

      @2GoRoam  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Ashley!
      Thank you so much for your kind comments here, it means a lot to us, we think you know that. As for the spreadsheets, a few people have commented similarly and yes we would consider that at some time. At the moment, the spreadsheets although work fantastically well for us, they would need a degree of simplification for someone to pick up and use. We will get to that at some point for sure as are finding them absolutely invaluable for our travels and keeps us on track. Watch this space!
      Congratulations on closing on the property, we know what a sigh of relief that is and to do it before the snowstorm.... Kudos to you!
      We really appreciate your comments and this one is as helpful as ever! Thank you!

    I love the cost breakdown. You’re keeping it simple but giving us the truth about what and where you’re spending. I’m really impressed at how inexpensive your accommodations are. Curious about how you ensure you’re happy with the accommodations and what happens if it doesn’t work out after booking for 28+ days.

    • @2GoRoam
      @2GoRoam  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Christina!
      Thank you so much for taking the time to drop us a comment! Seems that the cost of living content is the least popular which surprises us. The 28 day thing is a nightmare and we have been caught by that before. We'd say it is a changing landscape post Covid as we are seeing that more people are traveling making the choices slimmer but we are trying to get to a location first, book something for a couple of days before settling on an Airbnb. Hope that helps.
      Best regards,
      Neil & Sarah

    Sarah and Neil, Thank you so much for all your time and effort you take to produce these videos. I know it must be a lot of work to do these so often and with so much different content. I really appreciate it as my wife and I plan on doing the same in 2 years. The best point for me in this is that expenses will vary from day to day and region to region. I already have a budget set up for our travel and now I will break it down to a per day also realizing that we are slow travelers and if we go too high on the budget and are getting nervous, we can always scale it back and do things that don't cost as much. I've been getting a lot of good information from your videos. Hope both of you know what a good thing you are doing and how so many of us appreciate it.
    Thank you
    Bill and Claudia

      Hey Bill!
      This is a wonderful comment, thank you! As you are telling us that we are doing a good service. We were sat where you were 2 years ago and wondering about the real costs of travel and how to manage the costs and work our way through it. Over the moon that we are able to help you with this. Thank you so much.
      There is so much we can say about budget and we are likely to do that as time goes on, especially now that the cost of living around the world is going through the roof.

    Grocery day will always be a big money day, but it offers savings over the next weeks. But, it's always amazing how much you can save by eating at local restaurants. Some of my most flavorful culinary experiences are at loncherias during my stays in Mexico.

    Well done,
    Budgeting for anything can be really difficult. Accommodation now seems to be more expensive than flights and travel
    costs, where it used to be the other way round. You are very brave in taking on the
    10 year travel quest. As you said in one of your videos, you are not on holiday. I think that’s where so many people make a mistake, going out everyday for meals out, even when it’s relatively cheap, the money runs away with its self and often does. I know a fair few people who came to live here in Spain on a shoestring budget and don’t really have the life they
    thought they were going to have.
    There is a lot more than the Sun, nice beaches and the sea. You are doing well with this, it gives a lot of people interested in doing this a good insight on how to do it.

    • @2GoRoam
      @2GoRoam  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey David,
      Absolutely right and we are expecting comments from people in the coming weeks who will suggest we aren't getting the most from our travels to but rather than a holiday, it's our life and we maintain a healthy balance of going out and staying home.
      As usual you speak a lot of sense. Thanks for the comment, we appreciate it.
      Best wishes
      Sarah& Neil

    • @davidwatts968
      @davidwatts968 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@2GoRoam yes it’s the balance of getting it right. Very difficult indeed.
      Years back when you could do short term let’s of apartments I reckon was always a cheaper cost effective way, but then you are tied to an area. It used to be
      so common once. The same old story, everyone wants their slice of the Euro.

    I found the budget breakdown to be really interesting and part of that is the reality of how your lifestyle is possible. I don't know how to say it....I guess it's like watching an adventure that I know I can't do but, it's fascinating to watch. I realize that you are showing this for others to do and plan but, just so you know, it's interesting to those of us who are following the reality show that is your life.

    Love the detailed budget. Can't wait for the food tour video! As you and many of us know, you're always going to overspend during the first week of a long stay because you have to buy all the groceries. Lord, only 1.83% over budget? Well done friends! Sorry you've had to change your travel plans but these are times when we have to be fluid, and you guys are! And I typed that before Neil used the word fluid! Dardin, great question. I don't think that a video of that much financial detail needs to be done every week, perhaps every month. I loved it, but I'm a retired financial advisor - Anne

    • @2GoRoam
      @2GoRoam  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Anne!
      The food tour video is going to be a lot of fun, we are quite excited about that one, we will be shooting it on monday and tuesday next week, we are planning it at the moment. Good point about being over spent at the start of a stay, we hadn't really considered that! Fluid absolutely has to be the way to go at the moment, we are hoping so much that the world gets back to a level of normal sometime soon then we will all be able to make firmer plans. We feel for anyone in the tourist industry at the moment too as, how can they plan their business when they don't know what the future brings. Not great.
      Really appreciate your input on this video, we are taking your feedback together with the views of others here and going to use this 6 week trial to see what we can come up with. You are giving us food for thought.
      Thanks as ever for your very kind support, it means more to us than you likely know.

    Loved your weekly spending! Please continue, it was really helpful! Excited to see all the other places you will go since they are on my list as well. I’d like to know what all you look for when choosing a Airbnb. Have you looked at other options, hostels, Bed and Breakfast, etc....

      Thank you so much, really pleased you enjoyed this one! With regard to Airbnb's check out next wednesday's video as we will talk about that on there. Basically, we are always learning...
      We have had so much amazing feedback on this video and have spent a whole day in a coffeeshop (we are now drinking beer in the same coffeeshop!) planning how we do this in future and we couldn't be more excited!
      Thanks again for your amazing support, it means a lot more to us than you likely realise.

    My accountant's heart is squealing with joy. I loved all of the information and the info graphics that you created to go along with the data. What a labor. I definitely appreciate it. It was also great to see that you can spend quite a bit of time/money on eating out and still stay on budget. Nobody wants to travel and then sit at home every day. I'm also appreciative of the resource shout-outs you're giving so that we understand how you get a car ride, etc. Super, super well-done.

      WOW, thank you. Sarah was saying a few moments ago "No one has commented on the infographics" she knows the amount of work that went in. So we are both so pleased that you saw the work that went in there. Absolutely you can do all of that and stay on budget, take today as an example, we had a wonderful lunch and drinks at our local on our way home, plus some other spending and we found we were way under budget for the day. Lovely!
      Thank you so much. Your comment has really lifted us on this rather nervy day for us! Means more than you can imagine.

    I so thoroughly enjoy your videos! From the kittens in the beginning, to all the hard work you put into sharing your expenses with us, to the plans for the future and the Q&A!
    I found your report of daily/weekly expenditures very interesting. I can see how things would be more expensive toward the beginning of your time in a new place, especially with stocking grocery supplies. It seems as thought that amount would go down as you spend more time in that area.
    I enjoyed your recollection of how traveling together became the bigger dream and passion than staying in a physical home. I have always felt, that being married, my home is wherever my spouse is, so a physical home building is not that important to me. I’m truly looking forward to the day when we sell everything and begin slow traveling full time. 😁
    Thank you for all the work you put into being transparent with us! It is greatly appreciated. ❤️.

      Hey Lorrie!
      Thank you so much!!!! We are in kitty heaven in Athens, we think actually while we were out today we made two more genuine feline friends. Told one of them that we would be back to see him tomorrow and he seemed pleased... he was looking longing at us as we walked away from him. Anyway... back on track...
      You raise a really good point about the costs being frontloaded, we hadn't actually considered that ourselves. Other than wanting to do a big supermarket shop, there is also that thing of "Hey we are in a new City, lets get out there and do/ see everything" and then we get suckered into some more expensive options. Now that we have been in Athens for a little while, we are starting to feel like locals and as such, we shop and eat differently.
      Absolutely right with regard to the physical house. Home is where the heart is eh! We are looking forward to you being on the road too... when we put this channel together, we wanted and hoped that we would be able to provide information to either inspire others to do what we are doing or someone in your position... to help fuel their excitement for when you are doing the same. In the meantime you have a chance to live vicariously though us and get some tips along the way.

    Thank you for sharing. Really enjoyed the video and your honesty and transparency when answering the Q&As. Your budget spreadsheet tool is excellent - I will definitely continue to follow you guys. Well done :)

      Hey Maria!
      And thank you for dropping us a comment, means more than ever with this being a new video style for us. Our approach is that if we are not going to be honest and as transparent as possible, then we would not be doing ourselves justice... we are too old for the whole 'Influencer' thing, so we see ourselves as the honest and trustworthy place where people and see things as they are, now how we would want you to think.
      Taking your feedback away to discuss with a few more comments over breakfast tomorrow with regard to daily costs. We fear that it could be boring so we will mix it up over the 6 week trial that is for sure.

    Hi Neil & Sarah; Love the videos, and this type with the cost breakdown is great. I would like to do a similar type of travel, but try it for maybe a month at a time. We have children and grand children that we would miss so much if we were away for to long. Also we are older than you guys. What about you guys do you have children/grandchildren. By the way I went back to the beginning and watched all of your videos and will continue on from here.

    New format video detailing costs in a bit more of a structured fashion much more helpful than when budgeting info was sometimes mentioned in your old-style videos. I think splitting out the 'nuts and bolts' of travelling away from the 'sightseeing' segments of your videos works very well.
    One question regarding the budget categorisations - it would be good to understand what sub-categories are included in each of the main categories, as its not clear if utility bills are included (eg water, electricity, mobile, internet etc) for example. And having a category for the longer term costs would be useful as well (eg flights, travel insurance, health insurance etc).
    Regarding the additional effort to produce these extra videos, maybe reducing and standardising the design elements would reduce the complexity and therefore time to produce, as these videos are more about imparting detailed information. Also, if you are staying in a location for 1 month, maybe do a video covering the costs for the first week (like this one), then do one more short video at the end of week 4 where you can summarise how the costs for weeks 2/3/4 differed from week 1. I personally don't need to see each week broken down for the same place, but would be interested in seeing how the costs change (or not) over the course of the month and how they differ from place to place in a comparable week (ie week 1).
    QA section also really good - maybe you could build up transcripts of the questions and your responses and have them hosted on your website.
    And reading some of your viewer comments does seem to indicate that quite a lot of people are interested in your spreadsheets - have you considered doing a video (or series of videos) on how to build these spreadsheets from scratch?
    Keep up the great great great work ;)
    P.S. I also miss the end-of-video 'freeze-frame'

    • @2GoRoam
      @2GoRoam  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Paul!
      We are in a coffeeshop at the moment working through comments to help us build this series for just what is right and your input is frankly.... STUNNING. Thank you!
      We are reading between the lines of what many viewers are saying in their comments and building out quite a plan.
      With regard to breaking out what is in each category. Absolutely we really should do that and we will add that into a Wednesday video in the next few weeks for sure. Also where you say 1 week and then a summary, we are working on that now as we read your comment. Also, with regard to detail on where the spend goes on categories, you have given us a good idea for another Chart that we can build, we have just drawn it out on paper so we don't forget.
      Loving the idea of transcript, we are going to put some work into the Website in a couple of months. We are also thinking what to do with the spreadsheets, so much to think about.
      We miss the freeze frame at the end... discussing, whether to bring that back. Funny thing is, many people commented that they didn't understand what we were actually doing hence we stopped it.
      Thanks again Paul!

      Interesting, very interesting. Someone we know and respect very well in the UK told us before we left the UK that she hated Athens and couldn't wait to leave. We have to say that there is literally nothing that would make us think that. That is not us just being positive about where we are (recency bias) but we had a chat with each other today and both agreed that at the end of the 10 years we would happily settle in Athens, it has been 10x more enjoyable and interesting here than we had imagined it would be.

    Yay! I actually woke up excited today knowing your new video was coming out. Thank you for all the hard work. I appreciate it. You two are so delightful and entertaining. Sarah - I love your hair. Are you hi-lighting it? Neil - great shirt. You should consider 2GoRoam merch! I think you could also market your impressive spreadsheet!
    Thanks for including my question. I have more! Maybe you've covered this in another video and if so, please point me in the right direction. How did you both meet and how long have you been married? Would you choose this lifestyle if you were single? Do you find it's less expensive to travel the world then stay and work in the UK?
    Finally, what happens in 10 years? Thanks for the content. Keep it coming. Your fan - Kimberly

    • @2GoRoam
      @2GoRoam  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Kimberly!
      That is actually 100% SUPER COOL that you woke looking forward to our latest video (that actually leaves us speechless, well leaves Sarah speechless, as you know I (Neil) can talk for England). This video was a huge amount of work but we were keen to do that, get some feedback and then in this 6 week trial, re-arrange things to give our viewers what they really want. So thank you.
      Sarah has had highlights put in but she has just told me that she thinks that the sun has deepened the colour (if that makes any sense? I am a bloke, this means nothing to me). Thank you for the shirt :-) We have some ideas for merch one day but you know us well enough by now that we wouldn't want to do something too obvious or lacking in humour. Doubt we will be doing anything like that for at least another year though. Spreadsheets, if we ever get a chance to make them really user friendly we would consider that for sure too. Make all that work worth it, but we are finding them absolutely worth their weight (which I guess is around 0grams given that it is software) for our travels.
      Haha more questions, We have been together for about 22 years now... how we met is a story all of its own, tell you what if we ever meet you in this world of ours, ask that question and we will tell you the tale! Would we do this if we were single, fabulous question, do you mind if we add that to our list for a future video? For your final question, we were saying to each other the other day that travel is SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than staying and working in the UK. However mad that sounds.
      In 10 years... who knows. We are looking at our travels as a 10 year 'house hunt' meaning that we are keeping records of everything and building a dossier. We think that we are unlikely to ever buy a property again but maybe in 10 years we will settle somewhere. That somewhere is highly unlikely to be the UK.
      Best wishes from your fans,
      Neil & Sarah

    Happy new year and thanks for the video. I think a month end budget review for each category might be more helpful instead of a day by day review. It would also be helpful to learn more about other cost categories such as health insurance, phone services cost, other utilities, travel etc. That would give an idea for an actual total. Really enjoy your videos. Thanks again.

    Neil and Sarah--First I want to say how much we are enjoying watching your improvements in your presentations and your content and really appreciate how you're trying to grow your channel. You are solid TH-camrs on a mission to create good and valuable content, so thank you for that. Before I comment on the content, I do want to say I love all the multimedia you're adding in, and I did not like the staccato-style editing you did on the Travel portion.
    As for the content, Steve and I talked about it for almost an hour. We do the same sort of category tracking, and we have the same relative budget as you: $4k/month, $48K a year. We get to our budget through "buying down" accommodation with Housesitting and travel/transit through some travel hacking (but nearly as much as Tim and Amy.) It's nice to see you break down your dailies, and we wonder if you ever look at the annual beer budget vs coffee budget and feel the need to make changes in those subjective expenses (did you really need a beer or a $4 coffee?) to hit your daily numbers? What would you be willing to change in order to hit a daily number?
    For us, we see our control level to expenses exercised more in the accommodation spend, yet at the same time, we want to spend more on accommodation because we're just damn tired of Ikea couches. Does that mean we'll do more housesitting or less beer drinking? Time will tell. (We did come in right on budget for 2021, so we think we're figuring this stuff out...it ain't easy.)
    We are wondering how you're accounting for your inter-country (long-distance) travel spend. Does the monthly cost index include long-distance travel? It doesn't seem like your Greek $120 /day allowed for transit out of Greece.
    So, you're probably wondering how we find your Report valuable? Since we're already doing the nomad thing, I don't think it's necessarily valuable in teaching us how to do it, although I do think it would be extremely valuable for new travelers/nomaders or as a model for people to see how they can afford slowmad. Varying your budget by a country's cost index is an interesting way to approach your monthly budget. Do you change your next country's destination relative to your annual budget? For example, if you did three high dollar countries in a row (UK, France, US), would you do three low dollar countries next (Poland, Greece, Mexico) in order to hit your annual budget? Or in the time of Covid, this would be too hard to figure out, so you're kinda winging it while at the same time trying to plan for it too?
    For us, it's valuable to see how you spend your day from both a time point of view and a dollar point of view. It's nice to see that you, too, generally eat two meals a day, you walk everywhere, you talk to the locals. You need a refreshment in the afternoon. You're "normal" living your "normal life" as you slowmad. It's the model of that we find refreshing and reassuring that we're on the same track. We identify with you and you are relevant to us whereas so many other people in our lives don't understand us anymore. You get us. That's kindness and empathy that goes a long way.
    We are trying to figure out how to not only do what you describe, but to also do it in a less consumptive way. What does giving back (versus taking away) look like in a nomad life that gives us and them lots of value beyond friendly conversations from locals who love their towns (which I *adore* these conversations, but is there more?) We are trying hard figuring out not to be two, "rich, white, Americans" eating up the world but rather to be two travelers improving the world for everyone. Does sharing our story every week encourage others to get out of their homes and travel, thus turning the ignorant into the curious, breaking down walls and stereotypes and ultimately creating peace? Let's hope so...but I digress.
    Finally, from a critical eye, it appears to me through this report that all you guys do is walk around, shoot video, and eat. Afterall, it's hard to track on a spreadsheet things like experiences, culture building, and soul smiles. I know that's not your message (as you do have a great message in your other series), but out of context, that's my takeaway from your Report. I'd like to see you try to round out your expense storyline in a way that doesn't tell an eating and consuming story. I don't know how to do that--but I do know you've got some great storytelling skills and you'll figure it out. Looking forward to next week's report.
    Much love from Cancun...Chris (and Steve)

    • @2GoRoam
      @2GoRoam  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Chris!
      Thanks as ever for your feedback and support, it means a lot to us.
      We'll try to pick off one element at a time on this one :-)
      With regard to the staccato element, that was purely down to the fact that when we completed the first edit on this video it was around 40 minutes long and we wanted to make it as tight as possible to decided on that element to just get to the actual information, not a style we like and was a one off for this video... we are on the same page.
      With regard to the budget, we are finding that really useful to us in firstly just being aware in general terms of what a place costs, the budget changes for each location, we also like the game of seeing if we can bring things under budget too. Interestingly, I was reading last night something that we both wrote a couple of years ago in what we want of our retirement, a bulleted list, and it is interesting to see that now in retrospect. On there, we both detailed beers and coffees and key parts of our time as that is where we take stock and get more philosophical in our conversations with each other. So probably 9 out of 10 times you read that, you could equally read "$4.00 for Philosophical discussion on......." for us that is more important than some of the other elements in our spend that we are less hard and fast on. Also, having a daily number is cool as for example, here in Athens we have a number of 120Euros and there are more than one day when we are only spending on accommodation which is leaving more in the tank for our Greece spend or to put back into the annual spend if we don't need it. As it is for Greece, we have been hit with some curveballs, but you will see more about that in later videos from here.
      Onward travel and budgeting question. As you know we are using TravelSpend as our app for tracking and we basically set a budget up on there for each location and also have an Annual Spend budget and the intercountry travel is recorded there. However, from a video perspective, we will include that in our monthly spending rather than daily. Hopefully all will come clear after we have completed a cycle on this from country to country. As we spend we record, e.g. I needed to get a SIM card for Athens earlier this week and we recorded that entire spend within our daily 120 Euro.
      Using some of the feedback we have received we are feeling that people (certainly people in your position who are already on the other side of nomad life) would find those videos repetitive, so you will see next Wednesday that we are going to change those videos significantly and we are really excited for that change.
      With regard to flexing high/low. We do yes, so for example, within the budget we have here in Greece, that could leave us overspent if we stayed for 6 months, but we are confident (through running our index) that places such as Bulgaria will offset the costs well. In more extreme cases, we are thinking that when we spend 6 months in South East Asia, that could well offset against locations such as Singapore and Japan but haven't gone into the details of that yet, but that lets you know our thinking.
      And likewise Chris on the slomad life, we are already finding that people from our previous 'normal' existence don't quite get what we are doing and we are cool with that, it makes sense to us, this is very different.
      With regard to traveling in a more positive way, we think that sharing is to an extent opening up the world to people from our respective countries and critically what we nor you are doing is the Instagram life, trying to show something of our lives that just isn't representative. That would be to pull the wool over the eyes of the people that digest our content. One phrase we use and we think about as we travel is to do so with a light touch, rather that to consume the world, to observe from a respectful distance and engage when it is appropriate. There have been more than one occasion where we have been able to do something for people where we have traveled that has given them real tangible benefit and that of course always feels good to do.
      Your last point is a good one. Very difficult to do when this is just our real life and the one thing that we have made a real point of is to keep much of our life private and to have specific days where we film and those are by far in the minority. On that point, when we were in San Miguel de Allende, Amy was quite shocked in fact that every time we saw her or the others we were with, we did not have a camera or camera bag. That is because we want to No.1 Enjoy our life and travels, No.2 Share our travels, in that order. This is something that I think would be a good tip for other vloggers too in fact. Take today as an example, we are going to visit the Acropolis Museum and we are really excited to do so, Sarah asked if I plan to take our cameras. My answer.... No, on two counts. We want to enjoy it and take it in, the other is... it would be out of step with any story we are telling. If we had decided to make a video called "The Acropolis Museum" we would take the cameras of course. As it is, there maybe some good B-Roll that we can take on our phones but that is very much an aside to our day.
      Thanks as ever Chris, great to have these kinds of discussions and thought provoking feedback.
      Best wishes
      Neil & Sarah

More information on where to stay as central location so touring and day trips are most convenient. For instance you talked about switching locations in Athens but didn't say what area you were in. Thank you so much for getting in touch! Really pleased you like this different style of video from us, that does mean a lot. With regard to accommodation booking we lean towards Airbnb as it lends itself to our lifestyle so closely. Though having said that, since our travels began last year we have also used a mixture of Facebook (joining a local group to where we are traveling and asking if anyone knows of a good apartment, this will often result in a lower cost than Airbnb), 'friend of a friend' so hearing through someone about an accommodation but it is mainly Airbnb for us.

    So interesting and just great to watch and listen as always. Understand how time consuming to do all the stats but such a boon for would be travellers and armchair travellers too. Well done. If you had done this while you were in US bet your stats would have been very different.
    Quick question- what are your definitive accomodation requirements when you look to book? Or do you just go with the prices you find and if you can book longer does this always equal cheaper daily rates?
    Great you are in Athens long enough to consider some home cooking which should save you loads of money against eating out all the time as if you were on holiday.
    Look forward to seeing some sights and sounds while you are there. Best wishes.

      This is actually a stunningly good question and we will get into it probably next wednesday as this has been a big issue for us. With regard to the pricing, that is always down to the Airbnb host. In most cases if you book for 28 days you get a better deal and there are slightly worse deals for a week or two. But how we select and what is important to us, we will share that and it as been a REAL learning experience for us both.

    Wow! This was fantastic. I loved the daily budget with the pics and comments that speak to the value of the spend. I also like the “story” that leads to the spend because this is helping me to understand what slow travel can look like - the living a life vs vacation travel in Europe. I’m coming from Canada and previous trips to European locales have always been about maximizing what we see and do because who knows if we can ever get back. I’m trying to plan 3 months Of slow travel as a test run and I’m trying to figure out what that looks like. Your detail is showing me what it can look like - and that is immensely helpful. Having said that - I wonder if over time will it be repetitive? I think you need to do the 6 weeks to see what it looks and feels like. It might morph into a week or two of detail day by day in a location and then a summary in other weeks - mixing the detailed version with a weekly synopsis. It will also be interesting to see how spending changes the longer you are in a place. Either way it is still an absolute ton of work for which this viewer is very grateful. I like the graphs and the different currency summary (Canadian dollars :))
    I can’t wait for your planning videos. Will your current strategy change as you move from low and shoulder season to more high season - thinking about Germany in June for example - and what of July and August? I’m about to book our airline tickets and have to admit to some trepidation because I’ve never booked something for such a long length of time and although they can be changed - it still feels like a leap of faith or leap of something (LOL). I then start to think about accommodations and not blowing the budget! I think this is why you are brave - you are prepared to jump with each location move while letting things stay fluid - that’s a lot of unknowns for you which I think makes you adventurers and frankly inspirational! You are also relatable - if you can do it - maybe we can too! Thank you!

As you say, this could become repetitive and we really don't want that to be the case so we are both going through the comments today to see how we can change things up in the 6 week trial to make the information even more useful and interesting. Thank you for noticing the pictures as I spoke, that actually took a lot of time, to ensure that we had pictures of the places we went and that it was all organised so that I could edit that all in.
      Interesting question about shoulder season to high season. We are struggling a little as the tickets for the gig and the music festival were booked for 2020 and that was actually going to be before we had retired so we were thinking it would be our summer holiday, but now they will be happening right in the middle of high season, so that will take some clever management on our part, but we are doing it no matter what :-)
      We are very humbled by you saying that we are adventurers, that is so cool for you to say. Hopefully we won't let you down. Thanks again for the kind comment, you likely don't realise how much this comment means to us both.

    First of all, I think the idea of sharing the budget was enjoyable to watch. I also think the Q & A session and the sharing of future plans was enjoyable.
    I’d like to go back to Dardin Sotos question; the selling of the house. Wouldn’t renting the property out generate a substantial income that never runs out? Surely the equity from the sale of the property will run out at some point. I assume the profits from the house sale will be invested into some other income generating venture but is it as guaranteed as a house rental?
    When I leave (01st sept 22) I will have a healthy pension, 3 x house rentals (mortgage free) and a sound investment into a company; spreading the risk across a portfolio.
    It is my assumption that having a budget of €120 per day, you have already got your head screwed on and you know exactly what you’re doing. I just don’t necessarily understand the house sale when it forms quite a large part of how I intend on sustaining myself.
    Would be nice to share some intel on your thinking because I appear to be blinkered.

      Hey Ryan!
      Thanks so much for taking the time to comment. Pleased you are enjoying this format.
      Sarah and I were just drinking a glass of Ouzo when your comment came in and we discussed. Difficult and we should discuss one day, but feel it can come down to the old saying of "Horses for courses". For us, we are loving the feeling of being unencumbered by property and stuff so that is where it comes down to what works for different people. We sold our house and the money we took from there has been invested in asset classes that are providing a return which we are comfortable with and that we feel will continue to grow rather than be depleted. We know a lot of people that are funding their lifestyle through rentals and they are seeing great returns.
      So it comes down to what we all like to do. If you are interested, we recommend the book called "Quit like a Millionaire" from the guys at Millennium Revolution. That informs our position on property to some extent.
      Thanks again so much for taking the time for this thoughtful comment, we appreciate it more than you can imagine.
      Best wishes

    Hi, I found this very useful. Personally, I would split this into two videos. I would do a weekly Q&A and a monthly round up of costs. I think 1 video a month with a deep dive into the costs may better demonstrate the ebbs and flows and give you more data to work with. I do have some questions too! 1. What are your favourite Rammstein songs? 2. Do you make any money from TH-cam, and if so, is that feeding into your available cash to increase your budget? 3. Would you feel comfortable sharing how much you were investing each month on average to enable you to retire early? Most FIRE TH-camrs talk in terms of percentages, and it would be great to see a real £ value rather than a percentage. I have more questions, but I'll not bombard you all at once :) Please keep up the amazing content. You are both an inspiration and I hope to follow in your footsteps as soon as I can.

      Hey Adam!
      Thank you so much for your very kind comment and we're pleased that we are blazing a trail for you to follow yourself (in fact it is this kind of comment that always makes us feel so humble as it is what our channel is all about, either to inspire others to consider this path or, someone like yourself that is already on the path and looking for useful info along the way).
      Your advice here is really interesting to us and exactly why we wanted as many people to comment as possible so that we can refine what we do. Without this we could likely blindly go in a direction of videos that we want to do but that our viewers like less. So that is cool. We are taking these comments and going over them at breakfast tomorrow to look at refinements and you are giving us food for thought, thank you!
      As for your questions. Rammstein songs... We will try to answer that on video (might even leave an easter egg for you to find :-) ). Our channel is monetised yes, but with the size of channel it is the kind of money that gets us a beer or two a month rather than making a dent on our cashflow. Who knows one day! How much we invested each month, that would take some thought and calculation, would you do us a favour and drop that as a question to our email info@2goroam.com, that will prompt us to take a look back.
      Thanks as ever for your comment, you thoughts are more useful to us than you likely realise.

    Hello Neil and Sarah. As always a brilliant video. Im budgeting like crazy at the moment as my plan is to retire in just less than 3 years time (if sooner the better😊) and im prepared to give up my nice bags and shoes just like Sarah to fulfil my dream. I can't wait to hear all about the food😋. I know you may have already covered it but what do you use to pay for goods to prevent charges on bank cards etc? Keep enjoying. Ange xx

      Retire earlier! You know you can do it!!! We will be making some videos at somepoint where we touch on investments, we really want you to take all that stuff onboard :-) When you start traveling you will find that bags and shoes don't even figure anymore as you have so much more to focus on, how cool is that eh?
      From the UK, we highly recommend getting a Starling Bank Account, you may as well do that now and then get use to it. The conversion rate as you spend it near perfect. Also a Revolut card, which is more like a pre-pay credit card, again with near perfect exchange rate. You need both for resilience.... you know all about resilience Ange ;-)
      Hope you are well.

I hear alot that youtubers dont get much money from their content, so at least to what you enjoy. I also dont think that any youtubber should follow a rigid schedule with the videos because life happens that is often more important than pleasing an audience. Greetings from Norfolk. This is just the sort of content we have been looking forward to; we have been watching from your first videos and have enjoyed watching your journey to this point.
    We did find we were trying to convert the daily costs from Euros to pounds as we were watching. Have you considered putting the figures on your website so they can be digested more slowly?
    We were interested in your views on selling your old home. Did you consider keeping your home then renting it out using a agent. We looked at this and it would give us a 5% return on the value of the house and an asset that increasing in value by probably another 5% per annum.

    • @2GoRoam

      Hey Stuart!
      Hello Norfolk, we love it over there, wonderful part of the country! Over the moon to hear that this is the kind of content you have been looking forward to. We absolutely looked at this from the perspective of "what would we have wanted to watch 4 years ago" and it was this.
      We have indeed thought about putting it onto our website and we will do that. We have all the data stored and that will happen. At this moment in time, we are focusing all our work on building our TH-cam channel and then hope we can take a week to actually get our website working properly. If we are being realistic, we expect that to be somewhere around the end of March. Do ping us on this though, keep us honest on it!
      The house, there has been another comment similar to your own on this subject, check out our answer to that. But basically we feel that it comes down to "horses for courses", we are feeling great about not having property and stuff, it helps us focus on what we want to do with our time. Absolutely there are great returns to be had in property and we have many friends that are funding their retirement through rentals and we 100% support that approach. However, that doesn't work for us... if it is of interest, we would recommend reading the book by the guys at Millennial Revolution called "Quit like a Millionaire" and that informs our thoughts on that to an extent.
      We have our house money invested and we are getting returns on that which we are comfortable with and we are expecting that to continue to grow.
      Thanks again for taking the time to comment, we appreciate it more than you could believe!

    Neil and Sarah, thank you for including my question in your first Q&A session. I was sincerely surprised, but grateful you took the time to reply!. First let me get the big things out of the way: A resounding YES for making this weekly thing. As a statistics and numbers geek this is catnip for me (see what I did there?) and super useful. Second, and say this respectfully, you should charge a modicum amount of $$$ and share your google sheet template via a downloadable link or something so others can customize it to fit their own situation. I saw flashes of it, and having made one for my own personal finances I know how quirky google services can be, so the fact that you made it so cosmetically appealing and thorough could be useful to many and in my mind; why not reward your time of doing such a thing? I am one to gladly contribute to the fund to buy Sarah a new purse should the desire ever come to her :) Your explanation on "the moment you knew" made perfect sense. I figured it was build-up to it and not one particular moment in time, and it's re-affirming to know it was organic and in concert with each other. Lastly, these videos take time in scripting, editing, syncing etc etc and I hope you consider maybe a Patreon or other way to get some of us to contribute to your journey. In these times of COVID where travel may be hampered and TH-cam traffic not too giving in adding subscribers, I can think of nothing better than to start thinking of a model that you both feel comfortable with. I know the value I get from your videos is remarkable and would not mind contributing from time to time to making it worth your time and efforts! Please consider it! Keep enjoying the land that spawned democracy, my friends and thank you again for time well-spent! Dardin Soto

    • @2GoRoam
      @2GoRoam  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Dardin!
      We'll start with your last comment... Our video that comes out on Saturday, we talk about Athens and Democracy! We hope you find that interesting!
      Thank you for offering such a well rounded question for our first Q&A, it was perfect to get us moving in the right direction. Could you imagine if all we had was.... "And we have a question here from Dardin Sato who wants to know what our favourite colour is." :-)
      We are getting a LOT of really useful feedback on the back of this video which is just wonderful, we thought that we made it as clear as possible that we wanted feedback and people have responded, very good! So we are taking all the comments away to discuss at breakfast tomorrow to help us come up with something even better. That is the joy of the 6 week sandbox where we can try new things and see what people like.
      You are not the first that we have seen today asking us to think about putting a $$$ value against some of what we do and we continue to ponder that thought. Sarah is a very humble person who gets visibly horrified at the thought of any kind of financial model (even though herself and I have contributed to a range of Patreon's in the past). I think for us, we want to make sure that if we ever do anything like that, it will be based on value rather than wanting to make something. We have looked at many Patreon pages and been disappointed with what has been on offer so we refuse ever to do that. One usual one for Travel Vloggers is to send a Card from where they are in the world. We don't see the value for the end recipient in that so we wouldn't consider that. So.... we keep thinking and who knows maybe somehow we'll both feel comfortable with something one day. Our TH-cam traffic sure isn't where we would want it, but we work on the basis of being positive, consistent and always try to make the next video better than the last one and you know what.... we love doing that, maybe the channel will grow, maybe not, but we love the process and the purpose it gives us so that is cool with us :-)
      Thanks as ever Dardin, you are one cool guy.
      Best wishes

      @@2GoRoam Noted, and thank you for that. I know money matters are such a personal thing, so I completely understand the Mrs' hesitancy in considering. But as a parting thought, and like you; i've doled out many shekels to Patreon pages not CLOSE in value to what you've given me, so maybe do give the consideration that you may not have realised what your product value really is. It doesn't have to be a monthly / yearly model such as they exist, but "one time" contributions are pretty normal. Hugs and cheers to both! I know the hour is late so thank you for the time given!

    Thanks for this video, was very helpful and no doubt a lot of work! I'd be happy with maybe a discussion on weekly costs, rather than daily, maybe with some highlights on reasons certain expenses were higher or lower. Is your budget hard and fast so you don't run out of money, or is it more of an arbitrary target to shoot for? Hopefully you have some room so you won't have skip activities you'd really love in order to keep costs down.
    My favorite part of the video was the the first Q&A point about your rationale for keeping a home base or not. I understand the headaches of owning a home, but would you consider maybe a modest 1br apt rental "safe harbor" in the UK? That's where my head is right now as I think about early retirement and slow travel.

      Hey Mike!
      Thanks so much for dropping this comment. Very interesting feedback, we are taking these comments for review at breakfast tomorrow and yours, like many others are giving us food for thought and for that we thank you!!!
      With regard to our budget. We are fresh out of our jobs so are still very target/ driven kind of people so, we thought for the benefit of the channel and for our our fun and gamification it would be great to set a budget, nothing crazy that would leave us in Hostel Dorms (we are in our 50s!) but not so free that we could live like kings. We think we hit a good target for our first year. Important to note that our target budget for this first year of travel does not directly correlate to our actual available cashflow. But we will likely get into that in more detail in future videos, as this comes more into the realm of the philosophy of what we are doing and how our cashflow actually works. Nice question!
      With regard to your safe harbour question, we have a view there too. Do you mind if we stick this on our list to answer in the video rather than to answer here? Then more people can share the thoughts we have. Let us know, if you want our answer now and here... we can do that too :-)
      Thanks again for a thought provoking comment, we like this a lot!
