This is one of the funniest movies ever made. Craziest thing to me is that, while it's being super-meta in breaking the 4th wall, they went through so much effort to never break the 4th wall when it came to the blacksploitation time period. There's never a shot of anything post-70's. Never an accidental shot of a modern car in the background, or a prop, a building, a sign, a piece of clothing that was made after the 70's. Even the helicopter and the bikes the kids rode...70's. That's a level of pre-planning and attention to detail that i dont think most folks understand. It's nuts.
Black Dynamite had me from the jump, but when he kicks his nunchucks offscreen and a crewmember tosses them back I nearly died laughing. My buddy and I had to rewind because we missed the next five minutes or so 🤣🤣🤣 Happened again at "Ha ha! I threw that shit before I came in the room!!!" It's a loving homage to blacksploitation and hits every note perfectly. I hope you two can dive into some of the classics eventually.

There are a lot of meta jokes about low budget filmmaking packed in, and they shot it on 16mm color reversal stock to really replicate the look. Out of context, by sight alone, it could easily be mistaken for a real 70s blaxploitation movie...it was clearly made by people who know and love the genre, and that's what makes it work.

CRIMINALLY underrated when it was released, with a lot of references to actual blacksploitation films, e.g. Black dynamites incredible combat noises are heavily inspired by the 75 film Black Belt Jones (which, alas, are nowhere near as good).
Hell yeah.... "But Black Dynamite... I sell drugs to the community!" A good chunk of this movie was filmed on Crenshaw Blvd were I grew up. The Rooster Club, the "Doughnut" place, the pool club, the cemetery. And they used an old camera to give that dated feel... so the film itself was super old. The soundtrack amazing. The cast is legit! Eliza from Gargoyles being in it! Honeybee is the best. Also love the bit "I threw that shit before I came into the room!" because it just so perfectly highlights lazy filmmaking and absurd plot devices. I was very fortunate to have seen this movie in theaters when it came out in theaters around 2008 or 09.

It's the names for characters in, not just the movie but the animated series. The names of the pimps are gold; Tasty Freeze, Chocolate Giddy Yup, what the f**k, Lol. I remember that one episode of Black Dynamite had Fiendish Dr Woo's Tang Clan, and another where Kream Korn mentioned him and Bullhorn getting killed just like in the movie, but it was a dream he had. Also, Abraham Lincoln's ghost showed up, dud that one move, and then left is to this day so hilarious, why??? Who thought of that? Lmao

It's the names for characters in, not just the movie but the animated series. The names of the pimps are gold; Tasty Freeze, Chocolate Giddy Yup, what the f**k, Lol. I remember that one episode of Black Dynamite had Fiendish Dr Woo's Tang Clan, and another where Kream Korn mentioned him and Bullhorn getting killed just like in the movie, but it was a dream he had. Also, Abraham Lincoln's ghost showed up, dud that one move, and then left is to this day so hilarious, why??? Who thought of that? Lmao
He has another movie that's about to come out called, "The outlaw Johnny Black," and it has the actors & actresses from this movie. The trailer is great. Johnny Black is an outlaw that tries to rescue a small wild west town by becoming a pastor and taking on the bad guys. I can't wait to see that shit.

I can tell you that this parody is hilariously accurate. Dolomite and Pam Grier movies are entertaining on their own, if you're interested.
Also, I think in an interview he said that he's actually playing a former football player that had to end his career because of a shoulder injury. The levels of this parody are insane lol.
Indeed. You can still find the trailer, where they market him as an NFL player (ala Fred Williamson, Jim Brown) and Gloria as a beauty pageant queen (Pam Grier). I instantly knew what they were going for when I saw the trailer. 😂

Love this movie so much. Hilarious and hugely quotable. I knew Michael Jai White before this for his various action flicks but the fact he is a comedic genius was a wonderful revelation.
The writer-director-producer and star of this magnum fu is a real life kagillion degree black belt from Mars. He was his own stunt man for all mixed martial arts fight scenes as, well, who could double THAT??

I read somewhere that the scene where they forgot to put the car in park was an actual mistake they made that they left in because it fit so well.

You two knew the assignment. This is the way people you are supposed to view a movie like this. So many others reacting to this flick let sooooooo many jokes get by them. Now being a black man let me bring a little clarity to the Asian issue. Most black people refer to all and I mean ALL Asian people as Chinese. I've dated Vietnamese, Cambodian and Tai women and the majority of friends and family till this day will say "man you dated some nice looking Chinese women". That's why the Vietnamese flashback hits home with me. Hilarious.
