my high school choir teacher told me about being a part of this performance years ago. he talked about how each member of the choir picked a member of the crowd to make eye contact with for as long as possible to really hammer home how painful this song was to sing, to live, to be. it held so much more impact than he described. what a powerful song. only getting more relevant as the wealth inequality grows
Brilliant, always brings a lump to the throat. Had the privilege of being coached, along with many other British barbershoppers, by Steve Armstrong on this song back in 2017. It will always be a great memory.
There's so much pathos in this song, and this performance wrings every drop out and proceeds to mop up the floor with it. I would have had them actually marching their feet during the bridge, but that might have been too on the nose.
Meh. Not a choir song. So many lost opportunities with these talented people. You could have done better, mr conductor. Good though, conducting a choir isnt an easy job I believe.
