  • It's a place with a storied past many have heard about, but few have experienced firsthand. This documentary special covers why the federal government chose East Tennessee for the site of groundbreaking scientific research in the 1940s, how that research has evolved over time, and how that science has changed the state. Excellent piece about how Oak Ridge started and the amazing things still coming from the area that have changed the world!

All true. But, most of Oak Ridge is still a poisonous, radioactive, cesspool even 70+ years after the Manhattan Project came to a close. The entire area is a major "superfund site".

I had to visit and interviewed a family who lived and worked there. It was for a Tennessee History class.

Thanks for the Vid of my home town. As a kid we would cross those no trespassing signs and I thinks the bored guards had as much fun chasing us around till they caught us and called our parents. I'm sure I'm on some homeland security wanted list. I may have been a C student but that's because I went to school with the Sons and Daughter's of geniuses. Including my Grandfather, Grandmother, Father and Mother. The public library is dedicated to my Grandmother
