African Hawk Eagle (Aquila spilogaster) Mobbing Bird Call, Southern Kruger Park
The African Hawk Eagle (Aquila spilogaster) is a beautiful and fairly large raptor or bird of prey and is a predator of small mammals and ground birds. They are very good hunters and can often be seen at last light scanning the bushveld for prey.
The tar road between Malelane and Skukuza (H3) is one of the better places to get a glimpse of these stunning birds. This video was taken of a pair of African Hawk Eagles about 5 kilometers north of Malelane Gate. The call you can hear in the background is not often heard and is mainly a sound made when mobbing other larger birds of prey.
