I remember seeing a video a long time ago about strings inside of caskets that were tied to bells on the outside, so if someone was thought to be dead and buried alive, if they woke up, they could ring the bell for help. Back in time, the bowls, pans for cooking were made of copper. A lot of the time, the roofs would leak when it rained, the rain mixed with the copper, it would cause acid rain. People would eat/drink from them bowls and fall sick, sometimes fall into a coma. It gave the appearance that the person was dead, when in fact they were not dead. Hence, why people would be buried with a bell attached to their grave.
The term " The graveyard shift" came from this. The caretaker of the graveyard would be about listening out for the bells! This term worked its way into evening or night shifts in factories, as some would say I see you are working the graveyard shift ie 1600 to midnight

In the late 1880s when the nearby Earl's Court Exhibition Grounds played host to the American Show with Buffalo Bill, a number of Native American performers in the show, died while on tour in Britain. The Sioux chief, Long Wolf, a veteran of the Oglala Sioux wars was buried here on 13 June 1892 having died age 59 of bronchial pneumonia. He shared the grave with a 17-month-old Sioux girl named White Star believed to have fallen from her mother's arms while on horseback. A British woman, Elizabeth Knight, traced his family 105 years later and campaigned with them to have his remains returned to the land of his birth. In 1997, Chief Long Wolf was finally moved to a new plot at Wolf Creek Cemetery (ancestral burial ground of the Oglala Sioux tribe) in Pine Ridge, South Dakota.
I always wonder about what the lives of those people were like. They laughed, loved, made love, had children, lost their loves, grieved heavily over their loss,wondered about death and now, over a hundred years later, here we sit, looking at where they were laid. Last year my wife was alive, today she rests in a similar grave... it happened so fast.
First, I'm very sorry for your loss. This is so true. I was a EMT and I can't tell you how many times I wondered about people who had passed and the lives they lived. We certainly are not guaranteed tomorrow. I know as long as you speak of them and keep their memory alive they will never die. Prayers for you and your family.🙏

Am not a big believer in "closure" . A loss like that is always going to linger, but will get smaller with time. 13:22 the "tub" of this marker is supposed to resemble an ancient Roman sarcophagus. These types of sarcophagi were used into the medieval era. The gothic colonnade structure supporting it above the ground kind of makes me think the designer got their inspiration from the latter.
Brompton Cemetery is amazing. I live a couple of streets away and this place quite a jewel to have in your backyard. You missed the open house last Sunday, where they had a tour of the cemetery providing the history and also a tour of one of the catacombs.

I would have thought that the tub like grave would have been for water for the horses carrying the coffin carriages many times to and from gŕaveyards as maybe the person buried there was a horse lover am i crazy for thinking this , just, it did remind me of a drinking trough from days gone by . lol

Cemeteries reminds me of the fleeting nature of life, and it prompts me to reflect my own mortality. Additionally, I see these places peaceful and serene, offering a sense of calm and tranquility that can be difficult to find in other areas. Do other people here feel the same?

These cemeteries are fascinating. I was told that once a place is full then there is no money generated for upkeep. I'm not certain. I think most cemeteries now have funds set aside for future maintenance but then again it was hear say. Love the videos.
The grave that says I "for the resurrection of the Dead" has the last line of the Nicene Creed on it, "We look for the resurrection of the Dead and the life of the world to come."
Everyone seems to forget that cemeteries are resting places for the Dead. They wait for the return of Christ and the general Resurrection. No one has "gone to heaven" since Jesus' crucifixion other than Mary. The dead in Christ shall rise... 👍

The reason why some of the older areas are allowed to over grow is because it is good for the local eco system and provides local plant growth that encourages insect and animal populations to flourish. This is not something you really see in the US because of the cultural expectation that lawns, cemeteries, parks etc should be pristinely manicured at all times. Also, Many US cemeteries just aren't that old (compared to Europes) and are still actively accepting burials. For example, the family cemetery at Thomas Jeffersons home, Montecello, is generally not part of the visitors tour as people are still actively being buried there (at least as of 2017 when I last visited). So because we don't have a lot of inactive burial sites, the idea to use them as a pseudo nature preserve, is just not common.
It's amazing how many people don't know what "notoriety" actually means. This number also includes many journalists, so I'll give you a break on this mistake. Plus, I like your videos.

This place is amazing, I loved it. Full of hidden Gems. I saw that bell on my trip also. I'd imagine it's used by the tour guide maybe as a prop.
The crypt you talking about that has mother and her three daughters buried is 22 feet by 12 feet

Some of those coffins are so very deteriorated inside the mausoleum it makes me wonder if they even bother to open them up once a month ?
It is only the wood that has deteriorated & the lead lining is still in place. I would imagine the only time they intervene is if that is damaged
