My husband and my first date was to a Roy Clark concert . We both had exs and when he sang this, it immediatly became "our song". We've now been married 38 years, have 3 sons and 5 grandsons.

Lol I picked this song after a recent breakup! I loved that girl thought even if things didn’t go right we could still be friends and continue skating together and relic hunting river beds. After 4 days of not hearing from her and her last text “don’t ever contact me again”. I really needed this and it’s totally fitting! Got too big of a heart to deal with people like that! Congrats on the long life together! ❤️

Many years ago my father, who had recently divorced my mother - a woman right out of this song, was attending a Roy Clark concert at a small venue. At some point in the show Roy opened the floor for requests, and my father immediately shouted out for this song. Roy winked at my dad and started right into it!

My Dad has always been a huge music fan of many, which is where I got my love for music too. I am a huge fan of way too many to list. Dad would play this & thousands of other songs the whole time I grew up & his most favorite Roy Clark song was Yesterday When I Was Young. Dad would sing along or even whistle along to the beat of Roys fast pickin & guitar playing. Really neat & true to. Roy was 1 of the best ever. :)

This was one of my dad's favorite songs, and it was always so fitting. He put up with my mom's crap for over 60 years while she squandered his money, would shame him constantly, and he'd just take the abuse. He was always afraid that she'd take him for everything and that it was just cheaper to keep her. So sad and tragic.
When he passed this spring from cancer, as sad as it was and as heartbroken as I still am, I know now that he's finally free. My mom went into a nursing home a short while after he died, and I cranked this song on full blast. This song could have only been written by someone who lived it. To my dad, you're finally free, enjoy your reward, and thank God and Greyhound she's GONE!!!

In 1973 Roy Clark gave a concert on Fort Huachuca, AZ. I had a beautiful red head from Nashville on my arm. She had told me Roy Clark had been to her parents home. Just after Roy started this song, he stopped and asked where MS XX was, and gave her a note from her parents. She looked just like Reba Mcentire, red hair and all... and I think of her fondly when I hear this song or see Reba...so, if you ever see this post, give me a call...

Great song. reminds me of my 2nd ex wife. She took off with a Marine and the checkbook. I went to a bar that night and played this song until closiing then went home with a drunk barfly. Had to take out a loan to paythe mortgage but it was worth it. Last I heard, her new (3rd) husband used to beat her regularly.- poetic justice.

Any time I encouraged her, she had an issue at work. Her employer’s fault. I’m such an idiot. Now I’m paying for my foolishness. I was in love. Now I know I was in love with a truly evil person

The best music out there is definitely the old ones. If you like Roy Clark, you will like Boxcar Willie Wabash Cannonball, Mel Tillis Coca Cola Cowboy, George Jones I Don't Need Your Rockin Chair or Whose Gonna Fill Their Shoes, Tom T Hall The Year That Clayton Delaney Died, Ronnie Milsap There Aint No Gettin Over Me, Mickey Gilley You Don't Know Me, Earl Thomas Conley, Johnny Counterfit, Johnny Cash A Boy Named Sue, Ray Price For The Good Times, Eddy Arnold Cattle Call, I Don't Even Know Your Name by Alan Jackson, Roger Miller, Ray Stevens, Cledus T. Judd, Vince Gill One More Last Chance, Heres A Quarter Call Someone Who Cares Travis Tritt, Kiss This Aaron Tippin, Marty Stuart, Johnny Paycheck Take This Job & Shove It, Waylon Jennings Amanda, Don Williams I Believe In You, Hank Williams Jr Id Love To Knock The Hell Out Of You or If You Don't Like Hank Williams, Willie Nelson If You've Got The Money I've Got The Time or Always On My Mind or On The Road Again, & tons more. These have all been just a very small portion of my world's long list of favorite songs by many different artists. All of those songs above & others by the artists mentioned above are definitely worth a listen. :)

Reminds me of a neighbor woman, out in the road throwing rocks at her husband's car as it drove away. She shouted "Dear Lord, thank you for making Fords reliable to keep running long enough to take that man away from me!" This couple's fights were epic and that lady was no shrinking violet. Unlike her husband she never used naughty words. She had a wild collection of insults without them. Calling him Festering Pig Guts was the least of them.

    Lyrics
I've made a small fortune and you squandered it all
You shamed me till I feel about one inch tall
But I thought I loved you and I hoped you would change
So I gritted my teeth and didn't complain
Now you come to me with a simple goodbye
You tell me you're leaving but you won't tell me why
Now we're here at the station and you're getting on
And all I can think of is thank God and Greyhound you're gone
Thank God and Greyhound you're gone
I didn't know how much longer I could go on
Watching you take the respect out of me
Watching you make a total wreck out of me
That big diesel motor is a-playing my song
Thank God and Greyhound you're gone
Thank God and Greyhound you're gone
That load on my mind got lighter when you got on
That shiny old bus is a beautiful sight
With the black smoke a-rolling up around the taillight
It may sound kind-a cruel but I've been silent too long
Thank God and Greyhound you're gone
Thank God and Greyhound you're gone

Roy still IS one of the greats. Still doing shows in Branson, last I heard. He's one of the finest guitarists I've ever laid eyes on.
And this song, is solid GOLD... right there with "Yesterday When I Was Young", and Malaguena, which is just an amazing song to watch him play.

Here's the thing... I was talking with my husband about that *exact* thing. I searched for a copy to play for him, and found yours. I cued it up and could hear my Dad singing along!!! When it got to the refrain, it had the exact opposite reaction as intended - I got all freakin' misty! Sheesh!
      Spot-on observation, though. Straight up.

While visiting Branson awhile back on vacation, I was fortunate enough to sit in the Roy Clark celebrity theater and see this legendery man perform on stage. This was the first song that he sang after a little introduction at the beginning. I must say it, this was one of the best concerts LIVE i've ever been to IN MY LIFE!!! Thanks Mr Clark for a wonderful show!!! You're the greatest Roy:):):):)

I met Roy Clark in person in Tulsa back in the late 70's! Never would have known him if a friend had not pointed him out to me! Roy was at a auto repair shop where my friend worked. My friend worked on Roy's vehicles, and knew him personally! OFF stage, behind the scenes...he looks & acts like *regular* people! GREAT person!
