- As discussions on India renaming Bharat rife, Advocate J Sai Deepak joins Times Now to shed some light on the possibility and what are the legal hurdles present in replacing the country's name with 'Bharat'. The India-Bharat debate came to the fore after the government addressed President Droupadi Murmu as "President of Bharat" in a G20 dinner invitation, sparking a massive controversy. But then again, if it is to happen it won't happen in a single day rather there would be a million infinitesimal small changes to get the populace accustomed to it. in Malayalam we call Bharatham...the main water source river of Kerala is named Bharatha puzha. Also the great Malayalam poet, Vallthol has mentioned India as "Bharatham" in his lyrics. So I do think Bharat is adequate name for our country.

it is not about "patriotism". It is about symbolically naming the whole world (not just current geography of India) using a correct name based on well validated Vedic metaphysics. Bharat is a Sanskrit word. It means, Bhava (expression), Raga (melody) and Thala (Rhythm)or Shiva's cosmic dance. So, the whole world or the universe should be called Bharat.

In Telugu we always say Bharata desham and so also in every regional languages. INDIA is the Greek-Persian British derived name, initially it was referring the are around Indus river by Persians. BHARAT is the ancient name of the Indian subcontinent including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, perhaps Nepal. Jinnah could use their local language to name their country Pakistan and later Bangladesh meaning country of Bangla speaking people. But people have problem with India to be called BHARAT officially at international platforms where only the word INDIA is used outside regional Indian languages. Bharat is the Hindi version. The name Hindi is also related to India thon Bharat. If you want to use native name, name should be Bharatam (in Sanskrit aka. Bharati). Not Bharat (in Hindi).

When I hear Kerala to be named Keralam, Though being from Eastern India, I was happy that if the name associates with them it should be that way only.
e.g I call Bangaluru as Bangalore a few fimes but I always try to say Bengaluru. It will take time to adapt but it will.
