    That AH replica falls well short when placed side by side with a genuine item . True Germanic engraving skill, craftsmanship, style & quality shines like the sun in the real thing.

    The scrollwork on the subject gun, though well designed and executed by a skilled engraver, was not done by a German or in the early post-WWII period. This style of scrollwork is clearly contemporary American work. Some of the tells are the overlapping and intertwining of the scrolls, the shading of the leaves, and the turnovers on the tips of many of the leaves. Also, the type of circle dot punching of the background is typically American work. Tom referred to the style of engraving as "floral" which would indicate flowers in the design. There are no flowers. This style is acanthus leaf scrollwork. Thanks to Tom for presenting this gun for our assessment. Regards, C. Roger Bleile, Official Historian, Firearms Engravers Guild of America

      Thank you for your expert opinion and for taking the time to share this information. Someone made a lot of effort to "fool" the public, then then made some "rookie" mistakes.

    Agree 100% with your closing statement. The "H.G." Walther is more finely detailed in the engraving than the "A.H." replica. Thank you for sharing...

    My best friend's Dad was a Col in the 101st that raided Hitler's chalet at Bgarden and he had the gong Hirohito gave AH It was approx 12 inches round in size with the leather covered mallet. It was inscribed the emperor on the back side.
    Two Mauser shotguns one P08 pistol and one P38. The shotguns were a side by side and a std 12 gauge but both highly engraved but mostly hunting scenes.
    They had lots of WWII items including barrels of surgical equipment such as hemostats and scalpels etc.
    I was in my early teens when his Dad was explaining all this stuff.

      @LegacyCollectibles  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a shotgun reported to have been taken from Berchsgarden by member of the 101st. Never got he name of the 101st soldier, but he sold it to an Army cook in Paris and he thought he was being shipped to Japan. Did your friends Dad perhaps sell a shotgun? This is actually a Krieghoff shotgun.

    It could also be possible that it was made for him but he either never took notice of it or they didnt give it to him in time before the war got serious. the thing with hitler was he wasnt known to really be much into wearing such extravagant stuff. but i think you are right, most common explanation is usually the right one, and its way more likely that people just want to deceipt for their own benefit.

    Thank you Tom! Always always informative. Maybe the purported AH hand gun was his everyday carry, just kidding. Most likely as you’ve said it was done after the war to deceive. The second weapon far outshines the first. Is there a way to track the s/n’s as to who they were issued to? Probably an obvious question, but I’m a nobody when it comes to historical provenance. Have a great week. Looking forward to the next installment.

    In some of Hitler's uniforms there are special pockets which allowed for the carry of pistols. He did conceal carry as noted by Linge in his book as well as others who were around him. He had a Walther Mod. 8 and either a PPK or PP for his own protection and even drew it once while riding around Obersalzberg when someone tried to attack him. None of the pistols Hitler actually carried were as ornate as the gold engraved ones and were gifts from the Walther company that surely became immediate safe queens as Hitler really didn't like gaudy items. When Hitler visited the front he can also be seen wearing a holstered Walther PP.

    Almost makes me want to get my cousin's Gold Engraved one. He died in his late 90s. He wanted to mail it from his home in a place in South America. His oldest son asked if I could deal with his stuff to settle the estate Family would not want to deal with an exporter. Look at the big deal they made out of a collection of Nazi-Era Items in one country. Now that NYS is more like Nazi-era Germany coming this Sept. more than ever, I may travel more.

    A great "Buyer beware!" tutorial!
    Certainly, Hitler wasn't a "gun guy" like Goering was, but it's my understanding he did have a modest collection of presentation pieces given to him by German armsmakers. He was "Der Fuehrer" after all. And of course Hitler was familiar with firearms and knew how to use them even if he wasn't a sport shooter.
    I have seen one film clip of Hitler visiting the Polish front in 1939, and as he exits the JU-52 aircraft you can see he's wearing a pistol holster, presumeably one of his Walther PP's is in it. But that's the only photo evidence I've seen of Hitler carrying a weapon openly.
    By the way, I wouldn't want to own anything once owned by that monster. If others do that's fine, but not me.

    • @pre-alphaman2625
      @pre-alphaman2625 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am aware this is an old comment, but could you link the source for the photo with the pistol holster visible? There's way too many photos to look through

    • @wayneantoniazzi2706
      @wayneantoniazzi2706 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pre-alphaman2625 It was from German Army footage (In color!) shot during the Polish Campaign. I saw it on a History Channel series called "Hitler's Bodyguards," a British-made series narrated by Robert Powell. Again, it's the only film or photographic evidence I've seen of Hitler wearing a sidearm which is why it stuck in my mind.
      "Hitler's Bodyguards" is a VERY well done series, well worth watching if you get the chance. So don't go crazy looking through old Hitler photos, you'll probably never find it.

    While something that actually belonged to Adolph Hitler would be a valuable piece of history, I can't see anyone wanting anything to do with a replica. Wouldn't owning a known replica of something like that make it appear they you were a Nazi, and/or a follower of Adolph Hitler, one of the most evil men in human history? I can't even see a private collector owning the real thing. That is something that should be in a war museum, not owned by a private citizen. And yes I know, guns themselves are not evil. But something that belonged to or supposedly belonged to, or was a replica of something that belonged to Adolph Hitler would be a symbol of evil, and something I wouldn't want to touch.
    Now, I absolutely love the P.08 Luger pistol, and hope to someday own one. But I would prefer to have a civilian model. I just love the gun itself, not what many people think it represents.
