I am german . A number of years ago, a coworker from rural Brandenburg, told me this. When wwll started , in his little village there was no air attack siren so for the time, between start of war and installing the siren, the Amtsdiener/ Büttel ( town crier ?) had to run through the village with his bell to warn the people. There was a law, that windows had been at night covered with something black, that no light came out. One day a ,test' was made. The Amtsdiener ran through the village with his bell and shouted : Luftangriff ( air raid) ! The surprised inhabitants opened the windows, to look why the Amtsdiener runs through the village at night, and the streets had been enlighted!!!!
Haha cant blame them
Great job researching the Bock pistol! Makes sense that it was indeed his personal firearm. The unusual engraving pattern of the other pistol is also wonderful to see! Thank you for sharing and making another exciting video!!!
Siren is very cool. Great video. Dural gun looks fantastic.
I think he should mount the siren on his car, with a string into the cabin, the most unusual car horn in that town, it sounds a little like American police sirens from the 40s and 50s.
Yet another educational episode! Thank you!
Frederik Bach looks like the type of guy who’d carry an engraved Walther PP 😉😀
When I worked for John Martz Luger carbine maker I made Ivory grips for his Luger pistols and carbines. I also made custom Ivory grips for Walther PPk and PP pistols for John's best customers. I checkered the grips and added the Walther Banner. The Walther here with Ivory grips has been exposed to heat; heat cracks Ivory. Beautiful engraving.
Thank you for your videos!!!
That was all interesting, thank you.
I appreciate the details you include as part of your research. Gosh that siren was cool. Every kid's dream back in the day for his bicycle perhaps.
On the SS gun the Z with the cross bar looks like 2e SS Panzer Division Das Reich only wrong way arround...
Ok I was to fast, 4th Polizei Division...
Fantastic research, thanks for sharing
Thank you for actually testing the siren! That does pack a nice punch!
Air raid siren would be perfect for camp.
Awesome and super informative video. 🙏🏻.
I'm surprised the grip panels on the FWB pistol are black plastic. I seem to remember Tom commenting that factory engraved Walthers would typically have fancier grips. This could add to the idea that the owner had the gun for several years before sending it in to be engraved.
@Achronic Deth AKA a type of plastic.
Great video Tom. I never tire of these beautifully engraved, vintage firearms! Love the stories that go with them too. Keep ‘em coming!
Love the second pistol Tom beautiful job on the history too
The "Ivory" grip PP look more a "British" Style scroll.
Nicely done.
Since the initials and the Z appear professionally done the top look like the owner decided they wanted more and added the SS and skull. That would be my take on your story. Your information fits and the extra fits
Then the question becomes who added that. - the general or the GI that ended up with it..
Kenn-Nummer = ID-Number; RL = Reichsanstalt für Luftschutz; All products that were to be manufactured, advertised and sold for air protection purposes had to be tested and approved for their suitability. Air raid shelters that tested positive were assigned an identification number with which they also had to be marked. § 8 is the corresponding paragraph in the air raid law.
one of the things i like about this channel, is the office background.
Thanks Tom for all of your research and educational video's....Your friend Old Navy flying Shoe🇺🇸
Enjoyed it Tom
I WANT ONE !
I heard that somebody mentioned those big tornado sirens some cities have they used to be Air Raid Sirens I was wondering how true that is
Yes, it’s true. In fact in London and other British towns they still have original air raid sirens from WW2 mounted in there original spots on top of old buildings or poles and they still use some of them for civil defense sirens to this day.
@@fluxerflixer1 where I live they have tornado sirens and they sound just like air raid sirens like the ones you hear in the movies
The tornado siren at the elementary school by my house is still tested every Wednesday at noon.
Why did they feel the need to mark magazines as 7.65 parabellum or 9mm parabellum on the Luger if they were the same magazines? Thanks
It looks like a pirate's skull and cross bones rather than an SS officer's. On the other hand the engraver did a lot better job than I could do. 😀
Another great video with some interesting history behind it! Thanks!
I may be mistaken, as I watched this in a small phone, but it looks like the first gun has the Black Sun incorporated into the floral pattern. A little research into that symbol might indicate that it belonged to an SS officer as well. The same symbol is central in Himmlers Vebelburg castle.
interesting mate. Very cool pattern on that gun too, can't imagine how long it took to engrave
After watching it again on a full size screen, I believe that despite being similar and possibly took inspiration from it, it is not the black sun symbol.
Certainly ressembles it, more of the Slavic varient tho?
Thule and Vril still excist to this day ,But its very difficult to get any info on them other than they are still active and one of the most secret societies in the world .
It looks more like a slavic kolovrat to me, the sunwheel.
I own a SS Ring showing the black sun and I made a lot of a research on it.
It has to be mentioned that only few people have been aware of the black sun during ww2 and mostly high ranking SS Members.
i know i'm late, but that skull on top of the SS logo is a freikorps skull from the end of WW1. on friedrich wilhelm bock's page on the website tracesofwar, it mentions that he was in the freikorps for the end of WW1 and a bit after that (in freikorps baltikum). that's where he started his military career and that's why he got awarded the eisernes kreuz. so i would say that you actually have his gun, everything makes sense. very, very cool piece of history
That's not a Z, that's a wolfsangel. You know, the same symbol as the well known "not nazi at all" Azov ukrainian regiment. For good measure, they even couple that with a "not nazi at all" black sun ...
So, not a Z.
I enjoy the posts you put up.
Thank you for sharing. I was given, as a Christmas gift, a Walther P-38. My wife bought it from her brother. I had it for about ten years, and never fired it. The thing was made in 1942 at the Mauser facility, and had fine tolerances, was made well. The serial numbers had been exed over and Russian numbers added. I sometimes wondered if innocents had been murdered with it, by Nazis or Russians. I was happy to sell it back to my brother-in-law.
Your loss.
So you attribute morality to a machine 🤔 ?
I wonder how many bodies are on those guns….. also that siren is awesome!!
Nice firearms.
I don't think it's working correctly. Isn't a pull start like an outboard or lawnmower? Maybe you should check the in points?
Wow! What an amazing historical piece.
Germans made so good sirens UK is or has been using originals not long ago. Those are big and electrically powered.
I want one
I'm guessing Tom is going to keep that first gun, I sure would
Yep.. that SS marking looks totally sketchy, does not even match the quality of the rest of the engraving. seems like people were putting SS markings on everything in the 70's to increase mystique and value.
4chan-level detective work. Congrats
A friend of mine was bragging about her Walther PP 380. She was so proud of it until I told her; did you know Hitler used one to kill himself. She was ready to take the gun back. lol
I believe that "unusual engraving" on the ivory handle is an occult symbol called the "black sun". I believe it was himmlers design.
Great Gun Is !!!
WHY IS NOBODY TALKING ABOUT HOW THIS MAN SAID WOOLLY MAMMOTH TOOTH
What a beautiful pistol
I hate engraved guns. it is like having your face tattooed.
Those two guns are beautiful especially the ivory gripped one. From a very jealous Canadian who can only buy airsoft pistols now. Way to go Canada!
Anyone can engrave something, buyer beware.
1897-1978 - Colonel Bock lived to be 81 years old. He would have been about age 45 in WWII, and was a highly decorated combat veteran. He deserved to have a fully engraved Walther PP with his Initials engraved into the frame. 🤠
My friend has a 9mm that looks like a Colt 45 has Nazi insignias on it and German writing from WW2
Lately I've been seeing a lot of those Z ruins on ruined Russian tanks and APCs.
Odd isn't it?
I think both of those Walthers are chambered for the .32 auto cartridge which is pretty anemic for self-defense by today's standards. Even with modern self-defense loads, the .32 auto still doesn't deliver "like a brick through a plate-glass window".
Anemic could be you, chum, .32 was made for killing. Trust it works not worse than 9x19 or .45 acp.
IF THIS REALLY BELONGED TO AN OFFICER OF THE POLIZEI DIVISION READ WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE IT BELONGED TO
1944 and Distomo massacre
Main article: Distomo massacre
The division remained in Greece until August 1944 before being recalled to face the advancing Red Army at Belgrade.[3] It again suffered heavy losses.[citation needed]
While in Greece, the division committed war crimes and atrocities against the civilian population under the guise of "anti-partisan" warfare. In particular they were responsible for the Kleisoura massacre[4][5][6] and the Distomo massacre; the latter being one of the worst atrocities committed by the Waffen-SS during World War II. On June 10, 1944, for over two hours, troops of the division under the command of Fritz Lautenbach went door to door and massacred Greek civilians as part of a "retaliation measure" for a Greek Resistance attack upon the unit. A total of 214 men, women and children were killed in Distomo,[7] a small village near Delphi.[8] According to survivors, SS men "bayoneted babies in their cribs, stabbed pregnant women, and beheaded the village priest."[3][9]
Elements of this division committed atrocities in the mountains of central Greece ("Ρούμελη") during May and June 1944 that resulted in the destruction of Sperchiada and the massacre of 28 civilians in Ipati. The division later participated in Operation Kreuzotter (5-31 August 1944), an attempt to eradicate Greek People's Liberation Army (ELAS) bases from the same mountains. The operation was a military failure, but resulted in the killing of 170 civilians and the partial or complete destruction of dozens of villages and cities.[10]
"bayoneted babies in their cribs, stabbed pregnant women, and beheaded the village priest."
Massacres and mass killings ok but this sounds like a major ass pull to me
Sounds kinda like the ww1 propaganda of the huns bayoneting babies. Kinda like the Iraqis in 1991. Somehow these myths are always proven false except when it comes to ww2.
Achtung!!
Well the Gun can be Engraved later after it is made You can have it done later
I want the ss one.
SS guns were not marked SS or with SS runes at the factory.
Azov battalion (Ukraine) use the Z rune today
Short Answer. Yes . let the bidding begin ! personally I find NAZI memorabilia distasteful.
I love the channel tho. Liked and subscribed
...I'm 72 - I WISH I had one of these growing up in the 50s & 60s!!!
When it is engraved It could be for a Female
a terrible history.
Well, the guy lived to be 81 with no war crimes charged. Still, not very nice people as was stated.
If you believe it.
The type of engraving is called a "rose and scroll" it is common in English guns, however it looks like it was carried out by someone who has not engraved the style before as it looks "odd"
