in perfume, wilbur sounds like he’s close to crying, while also ready to throw a chair through a window….AND I LOVE IT!!! truly GREAT ep, i will be listening to this for years to come
everytime i listen to the first note of "oh yeah, you gonna cry?" i instantly think back to the morning of 14th of october, my 15th birthday at about 8am getting ready for school and being so excited that this album dropped on my birthday. and i must say it's the best present i could've asked for
Fr, this album carries so much nostalgia, takes me back to when I used to listen to it back in high school every morning and every afternoon when I’d take the bus home
Music theorist here- Im just realized Wilbur’s vocals tend to hang around the major 3rd scale degree, which is interesting because you’d expect that to be part of a harmony but it works surprisingly well melodically!

Man this album is 2 years old?? 😭😭 I remember listening to this when it came out and i absolutely loved it. Gives me a good vibe especially The Fall and It's All Futile! It's All Pointless they're my favorite. But anyway happy 2 years to the album‼️‼️💥💥💥
Oh Yeah, You Gonna Cry? is such a brilliant opener. the way it opens with piano before switching to the guitar is so cool and then transitions into the fast paced album without a jarring start at all. brilliant.
I loved lovejoy so much I knew all the lyrics to EVERY SINGLE SONG and listened to it 24/7, I was literally in the top 2% of listeners 😭 I don't wanna support wilbur but I feel bad for the rest of the band
Shelby has no evidence of wilbur bruising/biting until it bled. And she’s falsely accused her other exes of abuse too. Not to mention she’s a fraud, a liar, a clout chaser and homophobic. She says ‘depression doesn’t exist and its just an excuse for laziness’. Her story changes constantly too. Look up more evidence before hating on wilbur and the band please
Okay but can we appreciate how much Wilbur has improved? Like he sounded amazing before but in most of these songs, especially The Fall, he is clearly using his chest voice and it sounds like he isn’t trying to hold back like before and it sounds amazing
Totally! I personally noticed on the high bits in some parts of songs in “Are you alright?”, I noticed he sounded a bit tight, almost like it was hard for him to sing like that (with his range I’m sure it is a bit so I don’t blame him). Now I barely notice it at all, he sounds a lot better :D
I don’t know if anyone shares this same feeling as me. But at first I just wasn’t used to this music genre yet recently I suddenly started to catch the vibe and I can say genuinely that I love lovejoy now
same experience here it's not until i was working on something that needed my full concentration that i had no time to change the song and got forced to listen to lovejoy that made me realize it's beauty
I can see why Tommy liked Perfume to much, I think I speak for everyone when I say thank you Tommy for convincing Wilbur for putting the song in the ep.
Hearing the Lovejoy version of “It’s All Futile, It’s All Pointless” makes me so happy and proud of how far Wilbur has come and how much of a great job him, Joe, Ash, Mark, and any others who wrote/produced/etc. have done
Y’know, even as someone who’s aroace and the songs mostly being about love/heartbreak, lovejoy still hits fucking deep. Genuinely, this is my favourite band. Usually when I listen to songs it’s just ‘ooooh funny beat make good sound’, but with lovejoy I can actually feel the emotions. Wilbur’s singing along with just the general music following along with his voice - like it may just be me who feels like - usually in songs you have the music + lyrics, but with lovejoy it’s music = lyrics, if that makes any sense at all.
Realising that everyone in this comment section is listening to this EP for the first time... right now as I type this... is fkn awesome. I love this band so much.
I love the absolutely love the overall arching story of this album! 1. Oh Yeah, You Gonna Cry? - Demonstrates just how much of an jerk the singer/main character/Wilbur is supposed to be. Wilbur is a huge ass, taunting either the guy his girlfriend is currently with before she hooks up with him, or the guy she eventually ends up with later on, more likely the former. This sets up how the girl has inserted herself into a relationship doomed from the start. 2. Model Buses - Seems to be Wilbur taunting or arguing with his girlfriend, who's scared of him and demonstrating a want to leave this horrible relationship. The backup singing meanwhile seems to be singing the girlfriend's point of view, who's saying "Get me out of here" and voicing all her concerns during the chorus. 3. Concrete - Sets a really detailed scene of both Wilbur and his now ex-girlfriend getting way too drunk and arguing with each other at a bar. Presumably, Wilbur cheated on her, "All this over a kiss", and that was the straw that broke the camel's back for her, while he doesn't think it's a big deal. The start of the chorus where Wilbur tells her "You won't get what you need" might be him trying to discourage her from leaving with manipulative tactics, but this obviously ends up not working. 4. Perfume - This is more or less a lament from Wilbur, seeing his ex-girlfriend hook up with a new guy. He tries to voice his frustrations in the song, saying she's only using him as a means to an end because she needs to find someone to fix her social life, and that the guy secretly hates her. But by the lines, "Why can't you be a d*ck?" and "Bet he serenades you! I can't really blame you!", it's clear that he's a genuinely nice guy, and Wilbur is just suffering from heartache, trying to find any reason to justify his hatred of her new boyfriend, when in reality Wilbur was the only one in the wrong. 5. You'll Understand When You're Older - And this is where things really take a turn for the worse. The song steadily sets up that his ex and her new boyfriend are keep some "dark secret". Maybe their relationship isn't going well, maybe one of them is involved in something really sketchy. It doesn't matter, the point is that Wilbur has convinced himself that said dark secret exists, and is doing everything he can to find it. That line, "But you're talking in your sleep!", isn't a metaphor, it's literal. He's stalking the couple and apparently has even bugged their room to figure it out, and this song is his celebration of that, and warning to the couple. "And you think that it gets better, just you wait until next week!" Wilbur plans to release that secret to the public as revenge, he says it himself, "If I'm going down you're coming with me." 6. The Fall - And then it all finally culminates here. I've seen analysis of this song having to do with the UK government in a similar style to Your City Gave Me Asthma, and some of the terms likes the ramblers certainly suggest that, but I do believe it ties into the greater story of the album. The song starts with some short and tense chords, building it up (in a similar style to Farewell from Celeste's OST might I add), and keeping that tension with the bass when the lyrics come in. For the first verse of the song Wilbur is singing in the second tense to who I presume is his ex. He's accusing her and her boyfriend the whole time, painting them as monsters because of the secret he finally knows about them. And as suggested by the flat chorus of voice that join him in "And we're so calm but we're (f*cking scared, f*cking scared)", crowds are rallying behind him. He's let it out, he's let the world know the dark secret the couple was hiding in You'll Understand When You're Older. Yet, for the second verse Wilbur shifts the focus off of his ex and onto himself, talking about anti-depressants and how unhappy he feels. The tension keeps rising, until finally we reach the breakdown at the end. Wilbur switches the focus off of the girl and onto himself, finally letting himself breakdown as he realizes he doesn't feel better. He's accomplished nothing, only spreading hatred and ruining a couple's lives, and so he lashes out, yelling to the people following his spite that, "I look at all of you and see a different f*cking species!" He can't accept that this was all for nothing, "I would do something, if it wasn't (I've heard "all so effortful" and "also half my fault" from different sources)", and so he can't help but fall, reaching the climax of everything he's done, only to realize holding onto his hatred only brought more pain and guilt for him. It's the culmination of a beautiful yet tragic fall from grace. 7. It's All Futile! It's All Pointless! - Oddly enough, this song could provide a small bit of hope for the future. While a lot of the song is simply Wilbur expressing his regrets, thinking about his relationship with his ex and how he wishes they could go back to what they were - and yet, he expressly realizes that can never happen. "I don't miss you, I miss the thought of what we were". He describes so many depressing things in this song. He notices how his ex and her partner's relationship is becoming strained due to her not wanting to tie herself down (likely a result of her quickly going to the guy to escape her relationship with Wilbur and show her friends she's not single, as hinted at in Concrete). Meanwhile the poor guy who was described as so nice in Perfume is naively thinking about his future with her. Wilbur talks about how apathetic and dead inside he feels, even expressing how he doesn't even want to get back with his ex because of love, it's just because it's "somewhere warm to sleep", something comfortable. And yet through all of that, it's a sign that Wilbur has broken free of his grief, of him not being able to accept his ex is gone. It shows that he's grown up a bit too. It's all a sign of self-awareness that Wilbur so desperately needed, and that maybe he can finally start working though his pain. So yeah, the story I take from this is a beautiful tragedy, about a jerk who can't understand why his ex is leaving him, he can't grow up, who can't accept the grief to the point where he gets revenge on the new couple by exposing their darkest secrets to the public. And yet it's a story about how after all that self-destruction, that man can finally begin to grow.

I loved lovejoy so much I knew all the lyrics to EVERY SINGLE SONG and listened to it 24/7, I was literally in the top 2% of listeners 😭 I don't wanna support wilbur but I feel bad for the rest of the band
me too honestly.. i blocked them on spotify but it feels wrong when i see their songs missing from old playlists…

TRUEE
YESSSSS THE WAY HE SING THE FALL JUST HITS DIFFERENT IT SO GOOD 🗿🗿🗿
Lovejoy is like a messy room where you don't know where anything is, but when you find something, it's fucking amazing.
aw man guys, ty for the likes, but give them to lovejoy, they worked really hard on this ep, and you should support them.

Yo fellow aro
Yeah, as an aroce I feel this songs have something more, something deep.
Also I love the music, the drums are amazing and I love how Wilbur sings.

IT IS IT IS
I love the absolutely love the overall arching story of this album!
"And you think that it gets better, just you wait until next week!" Wilbur plans to release that secret to the public as revenge, he says it himself, "If I'm going down you're coming with me."
Jesus. Congratulations... it must have taken you so long to write this. And it makes sense.
