    The playing is unbelievable. The fact that they not only were superb musicians but also were socially progressive and substantive in their lyricism puts them up there with the greatest punk bands of all time.

      Which is why they must've felt like a force to be reckoned with when they roamed the streets with Jello and the rest of DK at that time.

    They were absolutely unstoppable in this era. Their constant touring across all of the US and Canada during the birth of punk's 2nd wave helped create an amazing network of bands and contacts across the continent that helped the scene grow to huge proportions. DOA's contribution to punk is invaluable.

    • @Brewzerr
      @Brewzerr 8 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Yep. First time I saw them it was the Biscuits-Rampage-Gregg-Shithead line-up, and to this day that was one of the top 3 most amazing shows I've ever seen. Just fucking annihilated my senses, and really made me a lifer. Later line-ups had their moments, but nothing could ever touch that whole 1979-1982 period. I practically worshipped Randy Rampage back then and started playing bass mainly because of him. If it weren't for DOA, Black Flag, and Dead Kennedys blazing the trail in those days, hardcore punk would have probably never been a huge thing outside of the West and East coasts.

      I think that was circa 1982 or 1983 when Wimpy (Brian Roy, singer for the Subhumans) played bass for DOA. Out at dinner after the show, I asked Bri why they weren't playing any Subhumans songs and he said "Joe doesn't want to". I said to him "tell him I said DOA has to play Fuck You" and I don't know if he did but it soon became a DOA staple. During the 1980 tour of Ontario when my band Joe College and Rulers opened for them, I said "it's not Disco Sucks anymore, now it's New Wave Sucks" and the very next night and gfor the next few years they played it as New Wave Sucks.

    One of the best. Saw them 3 times. Once opening for the Dead Kennedys, Circle Jerks and a solo show. I have 7 of their albums. This video is ancient, where's Dimwit or Sonny Boy. I was a member of the Money Grubbing fan club. Love the cover of Taking Care of Business they do with Randy Bachman. Liar for Hire.... So F@#&ING Great.

    CERTAINLY ONE OF THE WORLD CLASS PUNK/HARDCORE BANDS COME FROM CANADA AND THEIR NAME IS DOA. I'M HOISTING A MOLSON TO THEM TODAY.
    D.O.A. started out in Burnaby, British Columbia, 10 miles from downtown Vancouver and released their first four song e.p .Disco Sucks in 1978. Their two classic albums, Something Better Change (1980) and Hardcore 81 (1981) immediately cemented their place in the pantheon of world punk. Touring endlessly across the U.S. they brought their incredible live shows to many a small town punk kid. I really regret never seeing them live.
    World War 3 was included on Something Better Change LP which is one of my three all-time favorite Canadian punk albums. Those were the Reagan years and many punk bands had nuclear war on their minds. They were a trio when this video came out in 1980 Their charismatic lead singer Joey "Shithead" Keithley is a tremendous front man. , Randy Rampage bass and the monster Chuck Biscuits on drums fill out D.O.A.
    Don't even bother telling me you like punk if you don't like this performance. And after this we''ll see another live DOA vid.

    saw these guys twice in 1985 on there Lets Wreck the party Tour once at West Catasauqua playground field house and then at the Moose home in Catasauqua Pennsylvania where i lived, this is one of the first hardcore bands i ever listened to and a top favorite, i spoke to everyone of them but dimwit he was not very sociable but they were very cool, i must have spoke with Dave Greg for around an Hour very cool guy!! they all autographed two of my albums for me, both shows where awesome west Catasauqua field house was so small and they jammed everyone in tight still great show!! the Moose home on the other hand was large and i had a chance to slam around and have a great time, Raw Power and Dont Know where with them, the drummer from Raw power broke a finger on his drum-head they where playing so hard he stopped bandaged himself up and finished the show, i found out later that DOA payed his hospital bill that's awesome!!, had a great time wish i could go back and do it again!!

DOA are legendary, and this is as solid now, as it was back when they laid this down!

      There were a few different news items about his death that I could have quoted, but I went with the CBC News article. Here's a Canadian punk pioneer being written about by the Canadian government-funded national news outlet. He was a significant enough figure that his death got national coverage by mainstream (that's not an insult in Canada) media outlets.
