Dean Wilson really! Made out of soy or beeswax? I cut and grate up all my left over bits of soy wax or beeswax and just keep adding them to the bag i have, instant sprinkles!
well Mr.Dean your a jack of all trades. I didn't know that you did candles. That's awesome! Thank you for sharing 😀. I'm just getting into making candles and this video is awesome!
hi quick update, your advice helped. came out perfect once I stirred for 2 minutes and not 10 seconds! I poured a thin top layer to cover blemishes and a sink hole but forgot to add scent. I will check in 2 weeks to see if I can smell it if not I will discount for that thin unscented layer but the rest is 12% load and beautiful . thank you!!
Most candle suppliers have a table to follow and since its been 5-6 years since I made these candles the technology of wick making might have changed. If you ask your wick supplier they should be able to supply you a chart or suggest testing a range of wicks to get the best performance.
thx dean for sharing.. as always you seam to amaze me with your creations.. i will definitely be trying out this... what would you sell a candle like this for ??
i just tried making one without the ice cream on top. im seeling my candles from $5.50 - $8 depending on size of glass jar n if its massage or not.. thx as always xx
If it's a jar from a candle supplier you should not have any issues. With these jars I made one then let it burn all the way to the bottom. The testing was done inside on a metal table. Just incase of class cracking. Never hurt of exploding jars before but if they crack open the wax can melt out. So when the wax melts out of the crack more of the wick is exposed and hence bigger flame. So testing is needed.
Yes, Pillar wax is a hard wax, used mostly for pillar candles (no jars) like in a church or dinner table. Softer waxes are like GW464 which is a jar wax.
+creativechicmum Yes, you can push the wick down there and really no one burns it right to the bottom because it's about 2cm wide and would only last about 5 minutes of burn time max. Usually it's left about an inch above the bottom when finished.
These glasses hold the heat but your notice the top wax is NOT gw464, it's Pillar Blend, so a harder wax and it will not melt down. It works just like a pillar candle - the top part will burn away, once it gets down to the glass it will melt away. At time point the wick will start to burn the glass about an inch from the bottom. At that point I suggest customers pull the rest out and use the wax in a melter.
I've made these but the wick I used only burned down the center. Can you tell me which kind of wick to buy for larger candle containers? I know you've talked about this before but I'm just lost with it. I use soy wax. Thanks in advance! I love all your creations.
Wicks size depends on a number of factors. The wax you use, the width of the jar, the fragrance etc. I use this one. www.pinterest.pt/pin/450782243923844394/
+creativechicmum I purchased them at a kitchen shop in my area. They are about $7 AUD each which is pricy, but I only purchased a few of them. The CDN 10 wick is stuck down with a wick stickums. www.naturalcandlesupply.com.au/wick-stickums-20mm.html
Hi Dean. I've been watching your videos and really appreciate them. You do some really great work. I'm curious what you used to drizzle the top colors on the sundae and did you just use the wax left over from when you made the scoop? Thanks!
i cant get my 464 to set smooth, what temp do you pour? My kitchen is small and get a bit hot when meting wax.. does that affect it? i poured at 165 was smooth but sinkhole anything lower always looks wet or bumpy
+Dean Wilson (SentinelCandles) it doesn't work for me . then I poured between 150 and 160 I placed in the cabinet but I think it dried too fast because all was smooth except for a small area of frost on side and a sinkhole right next to the wick. I used s lighter and blow dryer and ruined it I need to buy a hot gun. I'm going to melt and try repouring and setting on the counter to dry slower. the first time I got it almost perfect (first time smooth top)
+Arie Smith Frosting is a normal part of candles. I had many candles that has frosting but my clients only care about the fragrance smell. The sinkholes are easy to fix, I have a video on that --> th-cam.com/video/NOVmp_eZsi4/w-d-xo.html
You make them, wait 1-2 days then light them and leave for 2 hours at a time. Blow the wick out and do it again until all the wax is burnt. Make sure there is no cracked glass.
Are you able to use the same scent for the candle in a M&P soap and sell as a set? My son wants to make soap for Christmas presents and wants to add a candle as well. Thanks Dean!!
You would need to ask your supplier. Most candle fragrances are skin safe BUT there are a few that will harm your still because of the acid ratio in the fragrance. Best check with your supplier.
Thanks Dean! I think I got my question backward - it should have been can soap fragrance be used in a candle. I get my soap fragrances from Brambleberry so I'll send them a note. Hope you have a great day!
You make this look so easy, but for me, I end up feeling like pulling my hair out. Either the wicks are to small, large, or no scent throw. Yours are lovely, mine... frustrating. I haven't made any candles in 6 months. boo hoo
Hey Dean, your videos are so natural unlike others who try to hide their faults and failure
Thank you Shalini :)
Ooh sprinkles to top it off 😀, 🍨 looks great
I have tried this in the past and found that the glitter melted and creates black smoke. Not good. :(
Dean Wilson really! Made out of soy or beeswax? I cut and grate up all my left over bits of soy wax or beeswax and just keep adding them to the bag i have, instant sprinkles!
Soy container wax and the top is Pillar blend soy wax.
well Mr.Dean your a jack of all trades. I didn't know that you did candles. That's awesome! Thank you for sharing 😀. I'm just getting into making candles and this video is awesome!
Thanks Noemi :)
I think this is the first candle video I've watched!! And again you've made it look so simple!!
So beautiful 😍 💖 💗
hi quick update, your advice helped. came out perfect once I stirred for 2 minutes and not 10 seconds! I poured a thin top layer to cover blemishes and a sink hole but forgot to add scent. I will check in 2 weeks to see if I can smell it if not I will discount for that thin unscented layer but the rest is 12% load and beautiful . thank you!!
Most waxes should not exceed 10%. I normally do 8% max. But if it works for you. :) Glad the video helped.
+Dean Wilson (SentinelCandles) thanks I try try 10!
your candles are beautiful
Your vedio is so inspiring for me ...candles and Soaps.....its really very nice....thks
Your Videos just inspire me so very much! Huge Bravo!! and thank you for sharing.. Katherine
Thanks Katherine :)
awesome, how do you work out wick size for this?
Most candle suppliers have a table to follow and since its been 5-6 years since I made these candles the technology of wick making might have changed. If you ask your wick supplier they should be able to supply you a chart or suggest testing a range of wicks to get the best performance.
I love that .. thanks for sharing . When lit would it overflow? Or would it just evaporate as it’s going ? Love your creation
Thanks :)
Because its pillar wax (hard wax for making soy melts) it tens to evaporate. But if you used jar wax then it will overflow.
love love love this! and i was just asked to make some candles
So pretty
Just a idea, could you spray the ice cream scooper with oil spray for ease of removal like you do with the votives and Melts?
Yes, you could I guess. I dont make candles anymore like this but yes, your right.
Hi dean sweet idea. Do you need to use special fragrance oil for candles or can you used the same as is used in soap? Thanks
The place I buy my fragrances from are for candles but *SOME* can also be used for soaps. Best check with your supplier first.
Hello Dean Wilson how are you? is that just coloured Melted wax on top? and how are you dropping the colour do you have tools to do?
Yes. Just pillar blend wax but they font make anymore.
@@DeanWilson can you use any kind of wax to do that and what tools do you do with dropping the colours?
I used pillar blend for the dollop on top and the same was for the dripping on top.
Dean Wilson but can you able to use soy wax
Yes, if you can get it to stick to the top of the wax like in the video. i only use pillar blend so I dont know if other wax will work.
Awesome thank you Dean!
What type of wick is this it looks very thick and stiff??
Its a wax wick CDN 10.
www.eroma.com.au/pro-wicks-cdn-10-150mm-wick-with-15mm-x-3-8mm-tab/
Wonderful video Dean thank you so much! I do have a question, do you scent your topping colours too?
thx dean for sharing.. as always you seam to amaze me with your creations.. i will definitely be trying out this... what would you sell a candle like this for ??
I sold these candles for $15-$20 AUD
i just tried making one without the ice cream on top. im seeling my candles from $5.50 - $8 depending on size of glass jar n if its massage or not.. thx as always xx
I love this
What size wicks did you use
I think (from 5+ years ago) it was a CDN 14 ( 15cm long )
At what temperature do you add fragrance and pour?
I didnt say in the video. Its been over 3 years since I made this but normally once the wax was melted to liquid then I would add the fragrance.
Hi great tutorial but a question never used a glass for candles is there a risk of it exploding concerned about this xx from uk

Hi there , What wick size are u using for those glass jar?
CDN10 wick
Oh thank you . You u make video for wax clamshell in the future
I don't work with wax anymore. I am 100% soap making. But if I do make some in the future I will do a video.
Whats the difference between pillar wax and other waxes? Is it just a harder wax?
Yes, Pillar wax is a hard wax, used mostly for pillar candles (no jars) like in a church or dinner table.
Softer waxes are like GW464 which is a jar wax.
Thank you!
OK thanks but pls wat do u put in de glass de first tym is it stick or wat
The wick is stuck down with a stick stickums
www.eroma.com.au/wick-stickums-15mm/
Thank you. ok so the bottom flat enough i take it for stickums.
+creativechicmum Yes, you can push the wick down there and really no one burns it right to the bottom because it's about 2cm wide and would only last about 5 minutes of burn time max. Usually it's left about an inch above the bottom when finished.
Love It! I use gw 464 aswell! Do you recommend customers use a dish underneath or will the icecream glass hold the hot wax?
These glasses hold the heat but your notice the top wax is NOT gw464, it's Pillar Blend, so a harder wax and it will not melt down. debbie feeney Thanks Debbie, That is a CDN 10 wick.
where did u get those sundae glass? and how did u attach the wick
+creativechicmum I purchased them at a kitchen shop in my area. They are about $7 AUD each which is pricy, but I only purchased a few of them. The CDN 10 wick is stuck down with a wick stickums.

I'm curious what you used to drizzle the top colors on the sundae and did you just use the wax left over from when you made the scoop?
Thanks!
Just my normal pouring pot. Im not sure now, it might have been left overs. about 20 grams or so.
what pillar wax did you use for the dollop?
The dollop is Pillar Blend Soy wax.
i cant get my 464 to set smooth, what temp do you pour? My kitchen is small and get a bit hot when meting wax.. does that affect it? i poured at 165 was smooth but sinkhole anything lower always looks wet or bumpy
+Arie Smith You can always use a heat gun to melt down to top like I used on the dollop.
+Dean Wilson (SentinelCandles) it doesn't work for me . then I poured between 150 and 160 I placed in the cabinet but I think it dried too fast because all was smooth except for a small area of frost on side and a sinkhole right next to the wick. +Dean Wilson (SentinelCandles) the temperature was so hard to get but ur video helps a lot thanks!!
what type of wax is this?
White is GW464 and the top is Soy Pillar Blend.
+Dean Wilson (SentinelCandles) ok thank you
pls do u have a video for beginners like me
This is a beginners video.
Hi Dean! Absolutely love this. For the drippings did you use the 464 wax or the pillar wax
The bottom is all GW464, all the top including the dripping is Pillar Blend wax.
Dean Wilson ok thanks
Dean Wilson how do you package these
I didn't they just sold from the retail shelf.
that's cool
how do you know the jar is candle safe
Tried and tested before sold.
how do you test them
You make them, wait 1-2 days then light them and leave for 2 hours at a time. Blow the wick out and do it again until all the wax is burnt. Make sure there is no cracked glass.
Thanks again!
What size wick
CDN 10 wick I used for this candle.
Awesome lovely mind blowing 😍😘😘😘😍😍😍

Normally they work both ways. On the Brambleberry page of the fragrance it will say if its suitable for candles/soaps/lotions etc.
Like my candle?
You make this look so easy, but for me, I end up feeling like pulling my hair out. Either the wicks are to small, large, or no scent throw. Yours are lovely, mine... frustrating. I haven't made any candles in 6 months. boo hoo
