I played in 2005 and was confused until now! It just felt like every time the scenery changed, new enemies emerged and badder than the previous one :). I am E/Me main too. Thanks Lara for breaking down this incredible lore!
Lara actually does have a couple of VERY old videos about GW2 lore! If you scroll down to the very beginning of this channel or look through the playlists you should be able to find them! ^^
everyone is talking about the mursaat and Janthir but no one is talking about the fact that Janthir is part of the Northern Ocean and is a place that is controlled by the Largos! I want more lore on them so bad they are one of the cools species that are hardly developed
I'm guessing that Janthir is where the Mursaat first arrived in Tyria, just like how Orr is where the Six Gods first landed. I really hope we get more lore on the Mursaat and where they come from. Especially since we now have Isgarren around, who likely knows the answer!
I remember finding your channel all those years ago ago when you did the Mursaat lore video. Hard to believe it's been eight years already, but here we are. Glad to see you're back with another lore video! I've missed them a lot.
Thanks for your awesome lore videos! I really enjoy them. I actually got back to GW1 just to replay the Eye of Janthir story not too long ago. I really should go back more often. I am really hyped to finally go to Janthir after all the smaller and bigger hints we got through GW2 raids and now SotO and ofc GW1 :)
This was so interesting to watch!! I've been playing GW2 for 10 years now and have always been invested in the lore, but as I haven't played GW1 or had the opportunity to get into raids, most of the information you covered in this video was completely new to me. I'm very hyped for the new expansion!
ohhh i love this!! i've only played through EOD so far but i've been so curious about lore, and have been SUPER interested in the eye of janthir since it followed me around a while back. now i'm stoked to get janthir wilds!
i dont know anything about the game tho but i dont wanna know, i wanna experience it all myself for first time hopefully the game is good as my expectations.
I love this lore videos, make them as long as you need to tell the stories, we don't mind. it's great to hear all of this stories and how it all connects. I haven't played GW1 yet so I love hearing about this stuff, and even about GW2 stuff, cause I never played raids and some things I just forgot cause I played a long time ago.
I kinda vaguely remembered some of this from playing gw1 back when I was 12 - although most of the story went pretty much over my head as a kid lol. Thanks for condensing it down like this and getting me hyped for the JW story!
Smashed the hell out of this, Lara. A much better (easier to follow, more narratively told, better presented, concise yet full, right amount of speculation/opinion) lore video than other GW lore specialists.
Thank you for sewing together so many pieces of the story. This makes the fuss about Saul clearer! And understanding more about the different gods and false gods also clears up questions I had 😊
Tyria has the most captivating setting to me. I remember the early days of GW2, opening up the map and seeing places that had yet to be visited like the big circle that turns out to be Dry Top. Just wondering, "what's over there?" Or scrolling down to the Crystal Desert and knowing of the history of that continent, but not being able to get any closer at the time. It captures my imagination like no other world ever has. And Tyria is so enormous. Even after we exhaust the continent, there are those peeks of other landmasses on the borders of the map. Nothing else comes close.
In the dialogue of season 3 Rox mentions that Canach told her Caudecus was seen making his way to Janthir. (Dialogue can be seen on the wiki and of course heard when they are conversing in 'Frozen Out'--you know that gnarly achievement story part that skips the chatter on the retries?).
Thank you for this video. Reminds me how much better (imho) the writing in gw1 was. Like really dense, no black and white and full of twists, which made sense and felt coherent with the worldbuilding. That were some nice 15 minutes of nostalgia :)
I love the lore video! Ive had a strong craving for these since the lore drop! Very fun, exciting, and informative! The charr aggressively and brutally took ascalon from the grawl, and then within one generation the humans came and settled in ascalon. It was colonizers pushing out colonizers, and the charr still have this false narrative through much of gw2 that ascalon was originally charr territory. Which really is just rhetoric that was used to fuel the war against humans even though humans helped with the earliest days of the charr rebelling against the shamans Ascalon was originally grawl lands, it's just that the charr shamans went way overboard with their aggressive conquering.
this was a very nice vid, when i browsed the AH for minis i found that you could get an eye of janthir so after this i just had to get it, vey good 62 silver spent! :D
Lore people, unite! The story is waiting to be unveiled and to be told! Bring your bravest, mightiness! Be relentless in your pursuit of knowledge! HAIL ABADDON!
One small thing you didn't mention, is that in SotO, when Dagda, Mabon and Zoija recite that enchantment in the Tower, Mabon mentions a Golden Lake of Janthir. What will that be? Maybe it's a large sulfurous lake, from what we've seen of the maps so far
11:30 my tinfoil hat conspiracy theory is that Anet told their streamers partners to look for the Eye of Janthir in the instance prior to the release of The Midnight King
I can only be interested in SOTO for the weapon mastery (did not get SOTO yet) but this, seems like more grounded and much more attached in core tyria. I loved exploring or just roaming around the core map maybe this will scratch that itch.
Pumped for Janthir and spears. All my main proffs (Engi/Ranger/Mesmer/Thief) have at least A tier spears. And it's only beta, so not even at its best design, and it still felt really good.
Everytime I ask why the titans had been wanting to kill the mursaat, as the mursaat trying to prevent them doing so eventually led to their demise, without knowing it they would have never had any reason to be their enemies. Redditor's have always told me "Because abbadon" I am looking forward to finally getting some answers on this. It would seem this was more a plot that was designed by Glint to fight back against the 3 exiled ex-gods, I think it would be an awesome way to link the current story back to the Dragons story to give new players a reason to play it, without forcing them too. Also would be awesome for this to be the way the old races got their revenge on the mursaat.
The north/south thing reminds me of how upper Egypt is actually southern Egypt. Different cultures had different ways they viewed the world! With regards to the Nile, upper Egypt is upstream and lower Egypt is downstream.
i never noticed the eye of Janthir at the end of SOTO, well played Anet. Also, I'm curious what story hook will have us going to Janthir. Will it be our connection to the shining blade established in LW season 3? Will it be the astral ward dispatching us as the wayfinder? or will we get a distress call from Aurene?
When buying a new expansion I hate going through the story and I read about nothing. I want to be able to get to the new map as I payed for without all the hastle. I must do them, also for achievements so I will but I hardly pay attention to the actual story. Now, this is what I love about your vid... I actually like to learn about it this way! I would view them all too :)
Benevolence is dependent on "like" and if something is experienced that's disliked then benevolence ends. I fully believe that the human gods are merely benevolent. No one good would ever enable imperialism and colonialism. Balthazar might have been the one who encouraged them the other gods helped the invaders.
There must be second portal in Janthir. Maybe it was sealed by Mabon, but his warding enchantement stopped working after he died / after tower was moved?
Guild Wars and GW2 have enough great lore to make a movie, or even a miniseries. Maybe the community could crowd source enough money to convince other movie producers to fund the rest and make it happen. If Arenanet could get such a movie made and like many other things that they have done, if it was the best game based movie ever made, it could elevate GW2 player count up to compete with WoW and FFXIV.
You're truely a GW fan 🙂🤗 That was epic, never learned so much about GW lore, thank you. My "real" start with the Mursaat was over all the soto expansion I think and thus me and the guys did not have the best start tbh 😂 (Besides IBS for me, Soto is the worst GW expansion 😢). But I may replay it and maybe I could set it into the right context now 🙂
Hi I just installed the game and when I wanted to get in it said connection to client lost try few minutes later and no matter what I did It just doesn't get in what should I do
The reaaaal question is: Will the other human gods come back to Tyria since the Dragon Menace and the reawakening of magic is gone now ? Pleaaaase I want to see Grenth!
OK for real, can you do more lore videos like this? This is absolutely fantastic and I've never got round to absorbing the lore of this game before!
I’m a complete addict to lore videos I’d watch more, I’ve been scouring for Janthir especially lately
I second this. I’m a new player too GW2 so a lot of the lore from GW1 is unknown to me
I played in 2005 and was confused until now! It just felt like every time the scenery changed, new enemies emerged and badder than the previous one :). I am E/Me main too. Thanks Lara for breaking down this incredible lore!
yes please
Lara actually does have a couple of VERY old videos about GW2 lore! If you scroll down to the very beginning of this channel or look through the playlists you should be able to find them! ^^
Just inject hours of that sweet lore straight into my veins.
everyone is talking about the mursaat and Janthir but no one is talking about the fact that Janthir is part of the Northern Ocean and is a place that is controlled by the Largos! I want more lore on them so bad they are one of the cools species that are hardly developed
Agreed! I really want to know more about the Largos too,

"Sounded like a good idea at the time" 😭
we couldn't go to janthir in gw1 cause that's where all the jumping puzzles are, makes sense to me
The z-axis hadn't been invented 250 years ago
This is the piece of content that has made me most excited about the expac so far...
Even more than spears. Also you have the sweetest voice.
Yay, the day of only slow information has come so we get to see Lara's awesome lore video!
lol I was planning to post this yesterday, but then there was SO MUCH NEWS
Babe wake up, Lara lore vid just dropped.
I remember finding your channel all those years ago ago when you did the Mursaat lore video. Hard to believe it's been eight years already, but here we are.
Glad to see you're back with another lore video! I've missed them a lot.

Love to hear Lara talk about lore because I love the gw lore and I love to hear people talk about stuff they know much more about than me.
thank you for this recap, i've been a guild wars lore nerd since 2005 but man is it a lot to keep track of sometimes
This was so interesting to watch!! I've been playing GW2 for 10 years now and have always been invested in the lore, but as I haven't played GW1 or had the opportunity to get into raids, most of the information you covered in this video was completely new to me. I'm very hyped for the new expansion!
2:03 A horse? pff. Everyone knows there are no horses in Tyria! ;-)
ohhh i love this!! i've only played through EOD so far but i've been so curious about lore, and have been SUPER interested in the eye of janthir since it followed me around a while back. now i'm stoked to get janthir wilds!
im right now downloading first time this game i hope it is good. You made me download it
i dont know anything about the game tho but i dont wanna know, i wanna experience it all myself for first time hopefully the game is good as my expectations.
I am here for the lore! Thank you Loranity!
This was the perfect context video after playing through the first Janthir story
I love this lore videos, make them as long as you need to tell the stories, we don't mind. it's great to hear all of this stories and how it all connects. I haven't played GW1 yet so I love hearing about this stuff, and even about GW2 stuff, cause I never played raids and some things I just forgot cause I played a long time ago.

what i love about this game you try and do a video and theirs always someone in the background flying or jumping pass the screen, cracks me up.
This was great! I've tried looking for GW 1 lore in the past, but the only found gw2 stuff.
Smashed the hell out of this, Lara. A much better (easier to follow, more narratively told, better presented, concise yet full, right amount of speculation/opinion) lore video than other GW lore specialists.
Great stuff Lara, thanks! Also I had not noticed the Eye of Janthir during the final fight of SotO. This raises so many questions...
Thank you for sewing together so many pieces of the story. This makes the fuss about Saul clearer! And understanding more about the different gods and false gods also clears up questions I had 😊
More lore videos please! As someone who never played gw1, I appreciate the gw1 backstory too. Thank you
Yay!!! The right content to make now. The homestead vid is amazing. Beyond expectation
well I finally feel like I understand the whole mursaat / white mantle situation, after many failed attempts before LOL absolutely fantastic video!!!
Fantastic! Can't wait to be constantly live once this expansion hits!
Brilliant story telling and excellent sleuthing! Love your work Laranity BLESS
this video was excellent! Thank you for sharing the Janthir lore we know!
Tyria has the most captivating setting to me. I remember the early days of GW2, opening up the map and seeing places that had yet to be visited like the big circle that turns out to be Dry Top. quality content! thanks for this, i feel even more prepared for the expac
Really good video! I love the way you make the story flow so naturally, very clear explanation! JW can't come soon enough ^-^
Thank you for this Laranity! I knew this lore really well years ago but I love having a visual and auditory recap to prep us for Janthir. So excited!!
Love the vid lara! Excited for the JW(inn) release soon, LOL! :)
This is sooo cool, thanks Laranity!
Laranity Ty for this! BTW you class guide breakdowns are great and helped me alot, i hope you continue to make them :)
Hey Lara, thank you so much for sharing all your immense "Lore" knowledge with us. It´s so interesting!
Oooh I love lore vids! Thats so interesting! Thank you c:
Thank you for this video. Reminds me how much better (imho) the writing in gw1 was. Like really dense, no black and white and full of twists, which made sense and felt coherent with the worldbuilding. That were some nice 15 minutes of nostalgia :)
Absolutely loved this storytelling.
New Lore vid lets gooo!!!
Ayo new Lara video, Great Wednesday already.
I love the lore video! Ive had a strong craving for these since the lore drop! Very fun, exciting, and informative!
The charr aggressively and brutally took ascalon from the grawl, and then within one generation the humans came and settled in ascalon. Ascalon was originally grawl lands, it's just that the charr shamans went way overboard with their aggressive conquering.
Great video Lara! loved it.
Loved that video. I watched a lot of gw2 lore videos throughout the years, but I really needed this summary of all that happened related to Janthir!
this is so good, I never played gw1 but even I'm hyped for janthir cuz of the raid w4 story (easily one of my favorite raid cuz of that story!)
Great Job! That was super interesting!
this was a very nice vid, when i browsed the AH for minis i found that you could get an eye of janthir so after this i just had to get it, vey good 62 silver spent! :D
Having yet to complete prophecies, I truly appreciate this history of Saul and the Mursaat. It’ll help out so much! 😭🙏🦐
what gloves do your toon has in the video? great video
Lore people, unite! The story is waiting to be unveiled and to be told! Bring your bravest, mightiness! Be relentless in your pursuit of knowledge! HAIL ABADDON!
love your lore videos, you're like the nobbel87 of gw2~
Pleaseeee do more Lore Videos they are awesome :)

Lore video! We back baby

Amazing story
Love it Lara!

Love your gw2 lore videos! More, more!!😊❤
Wake up babe, there's a new Laranity lore video
keep doing what you do!
Please make more lore Videos, this is really cool
Idk about you but with Rev spear being Condi, I'm getting my Mesmer up to date
Everytime I ask why the titans had been wanting to kill the mursaat, as the mursaat trying to prevent them doing so eventually led to their demise, without knowing it they would have never had any reason to be their enemies. great video
This reminded me the good ol lore videos from wooden potatoes
The north/south thing reminds me of how upper Egypt is actually southern Egypt. Different cultures had different ways they viewed the world! With regards to the Nile, upper Egypt is upstream and lower Egypt is downstream.
i never noticed the eye of Janthir at the end of SOTO, well played Anet.

It will be the Astral Ward asking us to go to Janthir Wilds to resolve or investigate something.
We need more lore videos!!!
Man i hope gw1 goes into sale again would love to pick it up
I had no problem buying it a few years ago. I’m pretty sure it’s still for sale on the Arenanet website.
"I took to thievery to pay my debts" all i can hear is W4 Saul during the Deimos fight lol
Wow I didnt notice the Eye of Janthir on Erpach s death scene...
Mmm delicious lore 🍰
Benevolence is dependent on "like" and if something is experienced that's disliked then benevolence ends.
I fully believe that the human gods are merely benevolent. No one good would ever enable imperialism and colonialism. Balthazar might have been the one who encouraged them the other gods helped the invaders.
There must be second portal in Janthir. Maybe it was sealed by Mabon, but his warding enchantement stopped working after he died / after tower was moved?
lore video hype!!!
also nice try youtube with your ab testing but i was gonna click it anyway. get fed false info ha! :P
This is great and all, but now I feel even more obliged to play through GW1 before continuing the GW2 story
Abaddon created the Titans in the Domain of Anguish, specifically at the Forge of Failed creations. Why did he have beef with the Mursaat?
Guild Wars and GW2 have enough great lore to make a movie, or even a miniseries. Maybe the community could crowd source enough money to convince other movie producers to fund the rest and make it happen. I really liked this lore series before the new expansion, like I watched last year before SOTO. xD
LOOORREEE VIDEOOOO POG
Dagnabbit, I spoiled myself on the next few quests of GW1.
Fantastic video, arenanet should pay you for that
Hope we are allowed in the back door gate with the piggy using the side shuffle like in GW.
"It sounded like a good idea back then" No it doesn't?? 😭😭 Guess Commander has always been a fan of.... interesting plans 😵💫😂
I wonder how many people not familiar with gw1 lore are going to hear "the 5 human gods" and go "huh?"
Poor Saul, he went through too much
It would be nice if they add a map in the fire ring again too :)
I only play GW2 casually but havent played since icebrood saga is it worth coming back?
Hi I just installed the game and when I wanted to get in it said connection to client lost try few minutes later and no matter what I did It just doesn't get in what should I do
The reaaaal question is: Will the other human gods come back to Tyria since the Dragon Menace and the reawakening of magic is gone now ? Pleaaaase I want to see Grenth!
This one would just like to draw attention to the fact that Saul was put on a Horse? :P Yes I'm just having fun with the wording you used xD
