Wonder if some of those frat kids went there on a DARE? Like, "I'll give you $20 if you can last 5 mins at this guy's show! They say he throws his own shit and fights the audience!" Great stuff, man. Thanks.
The harbor club burned down in 2014. I’ve lived in Florida my whole life, and I bet that even in 1989, for that area of Tampa, GG Allin having a show there was wayyy wild lol
Yes it did. That was quite the evening..hahaha! unforgettable. Wild night! Thanks for checking out the content and for the support. Very much appreciated!
Two friends of mine from a city about 90 minutes away from Tampa went to see the show that night. They got to Ybor only to find out the show had moved to another place. I could be wrong but I don't think it was known where GG was going to play at. Which that makes it all the more impressive given the era of that time that people were able find out the new venue
@ponkmedia Looking forward to the rest of your videos, especially the GG stuff. There was a guy named Peter Demattia who sold a bunch of GG stuff on Maximum Rock N Roll. I spoke with him after the Club Spacefish show. He had some interesting stories as well
I've been waiting to hear details from an actual unbiased observer that genuinely appreciated the chaotic art he created. I thank you, cause unfortunately I was too young and also lived too far away to be there myself.
I suppose if gg got food poisoning it could be used as an asset 😂 awesome videos mr ponk. I’m sure I saw a sticker of yours on one of Hank III’s guitars the other day! Have you ever met Merle his brother? Love from the uk 🇬🇧
are there any still shots of GG from that show that we havent seen? those are by far the best shots i have ever seen to show just how bad of shape gg was in in 1989. Id love to see more!
Hmmmmm...Im not totally sure on that one. There may be a few that haven't been. Most (90%) of them can be seen in the Carnival of Excess full length video, which is on my channel for free. Thanks for the support!
Was at that show. Your description was accurate if not toned down lol. I've seen video of it. My buddy is the guy with liberty spikes carrying a girl on his shoulder, stomping around like crazy. Surreal show.
Very cool. Looking forward to more of these. Also, I know it’s not GG related, but I’d love to hear your story about Butthole Surfers infamous gig at Danceteria.
I had some friends that wanted to go to the club space fish show in Orlando,I think it was in 91..but not me I was like nope no way not going. I would very much like to hear the BHS story though.
Hahaha dude GREAT story, Ponk! I want to find it so badly, if you have it PLEASE let me know! But back when I was in high school (like 2002), I saw this video of GG talking to a club owner in 89 and the owner ended up apologizing to GG and telling him he can’t play that night cus he didn’t want the club destroyed, and GG was literally SO NICE to the guy and actually agreed with him and said “dude I don’t blame you at all, it’s totally cool”…. The owner straight up let GG stay and drink and party there all night 😂😂😂 Such a damn legend
Glad you like the video. That was a helluva night! GG was certainly a complex character. That Harbor Club show had a great impact. Sometimes GG was "cool" other times (depending on his mood) it could get really ugly, really fast. Thanks again for checking out the content! More to come!!
I love these videos talking about him and people that knew him. He was a serious specimen and not all bad like people think. It’s awesome you were also around Tiny Tim. I was never a fan of him musically; but as a big fan of Howard Stern I grew to love him from his appearances. He was another total character.
I remember driving an hour north to see Candy Striper Death Orgy at a Chinese food place in Laconia. We were underage and were forced to listen from an adjacent room. Hahaha. If you're not playing cover songs its hard to exist in this state.
4:28 a lot of people went to GG shows back in the day purely to see the madness. They had no clue about any of his songs, just that a guy was gonna get naked and smash things. That’s part of why he ramped it up, he knew it was marketable
@@ToddCrispies Honestly, it wasn't like that. I had an above ground pool at the place and GG and I would swim almost daily in it. No fumigation needed hahaha. We had a freaking blast. Good times!
I am curious. I have heard gg and merle both say he didn't have money. Which i do believe. Because the life style he lived i am sure he spent much of it. But I am curious to what a performer like gg could make, from record sales, performances , autograph signings, merchandise. I am sure he had to be making pretty dam good. Because he always had huge crowds. Which i know he wasnt rich like big corperate bands.
GG didn't have any significant amount of money "stashed" or anything. It was different back then. When he would get money from royalty payments etc., he would spend it instantly. He lived for the day. It wasn't a pose or BS. He lived the way he said he did. It was one of many things that was fascinating about him. He was the real deal. A genuine article. As was Tiny Tim. They were very similar. Thanks for the support! Much appreciated. More to come!
@@ponkmedia I heard Merle say they earn more now. From I understand Nico doesn't acknowledge them(can't say I blame her) So I am sure she doesn't receive anything. I do believe Merle wants his brother to be known has a good song writer
I gotta ask out of curiosity, what were you doing at PONK media to get these stories with gg and be close with him? are you still working under the same tittle?
I worked with GG for several years back in the early 90s. My first label was called Vinyl Retentive Productions. We did many projects together including Carnival of Excess. He stayed at my place for eight days while we were making it and doing other projects etc.
GG's a music revolution all by himself . After GG not much progressed . Punk rock by suburban kid's as emo took over . True - some my have held up the torch GG ignited , but not with that fire .
I was looking forward to seeing GG at Ats Alive, my girlfriend lived their and was friends with owner. when I went to Arts alive, people told me the show moved.... I didn't have a ride. I stayed and went to the local club. and when I met my GF at arts alive, GG gets out of the passenger side, she says Tom this is GG GG this is Tom, he asked if I drink beer I say yes and I grab the case of beer. we drank beer while watching the video of the show, we laughed and drank and had a fucking great time. When we were watching the part of GG's shit time.... I looked at him and said, "you fucker I shook you shit hand" He replied "Don't worry your chick hosed me off back in the ally we drank beer, and I think he had a few puffs of my pot. Then we realized that we just finished the case o beer, GG gave me the last one of the case, and said "don't worry more is coming
Nice! Great story!! That would have been fun hanging out. with him after that one. He was a mess at that point. My old band played Arts Alive a few times. Good thing it was moved to a bigger venue, or maybe not....hahaha. Classic stuff man! What a great memory!

I’ve never really been able to get into the music, but I certainly understand the appeal behind acts like GG Allin and Seth Putnam. In retrospect, it would have been nice to see them before they were gone.
I don't understand why some ppl look back at GG shows with fondness. Other than to be able to say, 'I saw one of those disasters live', I don't understand why ppl are so fond of him. There was nothing good about him or his 'music'. As 43 year old, life long punk fan, GG's music was absolutely trash. There is nothing appealing about noise. I truly do not understand how ppl can like his stuff.. The same can be said about the majority of hardcore. It is crap with poor musicanship.
The girl with the giant 80s hair, she was lucky to have that layer of aqua net. It 😂protected it
I'd have saved that hair and got him to sign it later!
The Disappointments were one of his best backing bands. Great story! Can't wait for future installments
As a bus driver,
l enjoy GG.
Dinner and a show!
😂😂😂
That's what GG would be doing today... 3 shows a day all you can eat family special, it's not polite to stare ! lol
The best GG show I've seen on video by far. Definitely his best Dead Flowers version. You rule, Mark!
But GD the music is terrible bro no offense
The Disappointments are my favorite backing band. Still bummed there isn't full video of his '91 show with em in MI.
There is. But only audio of it was ever released
@@kerrysrarities post it ASAP?

Killer first hand account of a crucial show from the Disappointments era. Thanks for sharing!

Excellent personal account of events, always love me a good GG story.
