The story behind this song was that Axl was in the other room working on lyrics while the band was warming up. That opening part was just a finger exercise that Slash had been practicing with when Axl came back and said "That's a song, I have a song for that."
And the part towards the end - "where do we go now?" is what he started singing when he ran out of lyrics.
Yeah, Slash said he had to be talked round to using it because he thought it sounded like circus music 😂

Real GNR fans know Estranged is better.. Another 10 minute song with a great video. It's just November Rain came first and was the bigger hit. Estranged video released at the top of 1994 almost 3 years after the album came out that it's on from 91.. So by then it was an old song. Overtime November Rain remains the more popular tune

Nah, I'm 19 and am full aware of this songs existence. That's because my parents played this and other artists for my siblings and I. I think that plays a role in someone knowing songs and bands like this but also it's all about taste
I’m 14 and I’ve known these songs as a baby and I know plenty of people who know them as well. It is just people that have bad taste that don’t know these or people who grew up around rap
It just depends on the music that people listen to while you are growing up. I know guns n roses because my dad listened to them and he was into rock, but I know my mom didn't listen to them and I don't ever remember hearing them when I was around her(they were divorced when I was little), other bands too. The opposite is true also, my mom listened to bands and artists I probably never would have heard or known otherwise if she didn't have them on. Same holds true for other genres of music's and music in general. We know the songs and riffs and melodies because we always heard them, but someone who hasn't, even if they heard bits of it somewhere wouldn't remember it or know who it was. What reason would someone have to listen to particular songs if they arent around anyone who listens to that artist or musical style and aren't aware of those artists existence or influence?

My son that used to get up early everyday in elementary school to eat his cereal in front of TV to watch this video. He was probably in 2nd or 3 rd grade. OMG. So happy! Thanks for that lovely memory. He passed away in 2011 at 31 yrs. from a rare clotting disorder. OMG he loved Guns & Roses as I kid

I'm sorry for your loss. :( But that is such a lovely memory you shared of him as a kid. It made me smile because it was similar for me at that age. Guns & Roses was my favorite band, and my dad would play them every morning as motivation to get me out of bed to go to school. It always worked. ALWAYS.

At the end, they were having trouble figuring out where to go to close it out, Axl Rose was playing around and singing, "Where do we go now" and it sounded so cool, they left it in. Love this song. I recommend a song called "wish you were here by Pink Floyd" or "Rock you like a Hurricane" by the Scorpions (watch the official video if you can, it was an MTV staple, we all loved it)

The 6 degrees of rock you'll love is that Lenny Kravitz & Slash went to the same high school... And years later Slash played on Always On The Run on his 2nd album... He wanted to use the middle riff in GNR but said it was more funk than would fit there 😅😂
