How amazing is this. Michael Flatley made an entire show out of the story of Ireland. And what a beautiful story it is. This song tells the story in such an amazing way. Captured my heart.
To this day I love this song, I liked it when he sang it over the woman. If this was Filmed in Washington then I was at that show and heard him sing live it was amazing. Irish by blood and proud!
I loved this song when I heard it sung during the performance. But it was only when I moved to Ireland from my native Scotland that I learned the real meaning of the song and why it is so important and precious to so many Irish people. Sadly we are not taught about this in the UK.
BRILLIANT song... Whoever this guy is he's bringing more emotion to the song than anyone previous has EVER done! Sorrowful, yet sung with such a passion! Brings a tear to my eye... Tiocfaidh ár lá.
This was a great version of Tommy's song. I cried to see the young people in awe as the proud words and lovely photos presented themselves to their youth and inexperience. Yes, this was a fine version.
What did I have, said the fine old woman What did I have, this proud old woman did say I had four green fields, each one was a jewel But strangers came and tried to take them from me I had fine strong sons, who fought to save my jewels They fought and they died, and that was my grief said she
Beautiful! The Four Provinces of Ireland! Powerful and Progressive hopefully for All! I'm Northern Irish and Proud of My Province! Mixed and Stewed and Moving On! My Province sees hold backs but also sees Young Progressive people with Dreams and Trust! Waiting for the Mammoths to disappear and make Way for The Young Progressives!
Oliver1649 , Thanks for the reply ! Yeah I live in London. Well the date won't be the 12th of July .. lol ! You should have 1690 after your name ! Are you Dutch ? Maybe we should both stick to singing ..ha ha Definately Ireland will be united one day! Regards.
paisley said that he would never share power with nationalists, would never work with sinn fein and would never tolerate southern influence into 'northern ireland's' affairs.....look at whats happening now!!
Oliver, I fail to see in any of my comments, me "descending into foul language, filth, and name-calling." I am sorry to say, Oliver, that I do have a point to prove. It is the point that you make wars where none need to be made and seem to find some pleasure in aggrivating someones comment to mean something you find offensive. This is a tedious way to live, Oliver and I suggest you refrain from it. It will only hurt you in the long run.
Oliver, I am sorry to hear that you do not agree with me. I believe that I would not try to deny anyone, no matter how annoying, their right to free expression. So I am sorry to say, my friend, that you have wrongly judged me in that court. I am refraining from being exceptionally unpleasent for the sake of anyone else reading this argument. As I can write some very unpleasent things. Yes you have the right to your opinion. And I have the right to think you are stupid. Which I do, Oliver.
Oliver, You are going to annoy completely the wrong people if you keep this up. I knew some-what what the song was about, I do listen to lyrics, unlike most people. And all I can say for your comments are that they are interesting to read, if you must make a point, make it silently, because though I am not one of the people you are liable to annoy, I am going to warn you that others may not appreciate your opiions as much as me.
Oliver, If you took my words of warning as a threat, then I beseach you to actually READ what was written. It seems that this is something you do not often do, READ. If perhaps you read all the comments you argued with, you might actually see that there is nothing wrong with them and that you, my friend, are starting wars where none needs to be started. We have ebough wars carrying on in life, we do not need your bad tempered arguments filling the comment boxes.
You are not making alot of friends are you Oliver. Opinions can be voiced, but shouldn't alwyas be. "Yes you have the right to your opinion. And I have the right to think your stupid." Why don't you just stop picking fights and enjoy the videos? It would be so much easier and alot less hassle. Or maybe you like picking fights and having a go at totally inoccent comments...?
Aggravating people seems to be something you are good at. Please refrain from this as it is tedious and people are going to be much more unpleasent towards you. This is a friendly remark, as I, by no means, intend to try and threaten you, only inform you that you do seem to be trying to annoy people deliberatley. I encourage you to stop this as it is frustrating and people get annoyed by behaviours such as these.
Amazing. Fair play to Flatley for doing what no one else would.
This is possibly the most beautiful song I know. It brings a tear to my eye and Pride to my heart to know that this is my heritage. ERIN GO BRAGH!
This is my favorite version of this song. I have Scots-Irish heritage.
And what a fine heritage you have

I wonder how many people at this concert understood what this song was really about?
I like this version too. I think its very elegant.
What did I have, said the fine old woman
What did I have, this proud old woman did say
I had four green fields, each one was a jewel
But strangers came and tried to take them from me
I had fine strong sons, who fought to save my jewels
They fought and they died, and that was my grief said she
