Blue Jay Meets Banana - Makes Monkey Sounds

- Blue Jay gets very excited upon seeing a ripe banana for the first time making a variety of calls including a pretty good monkey impersonation. I've heard that call before, but never so close and on film. At first the Jay picks at the seeds and is unsure it likes the actual banana, but within a few minutes its feasting on it.

I never heard a jay make a warbling sound like that before. The rest, yeah I have. Territorial calls, and maybe a mating song or two. This fellow is very talented and has taken a fancy to more than a few songs in his life.

I didn’t know they liked bananas. I’ll have to try that one as I’m out of peanuts and their not happy about it. I swear they start yelling at me when they see me and there isn’t any peanuts out for them. I love the Bluejay sounds.

That was a very vocal Blue Jay. It really loved that banana. Who knew they loved bananas so much.

I don't think the Blue Jay knew either till it accidentally ate bits of it while grabbing the seeds. It seemed to grow on it till it really dug in to the banana proper at the end.

This Blue Jay could be imitating a Cooper’s Hawk, which makes that exact, same monkey-like sound. Either way, this Jay does sound like a monkey, and it’s funny how this Jay is doing it while eating a banana. 🍌🐒🐵 Also love the Cardinal in the background. Thanks for sharing, MBB! 🤗❤🐦

Funny thing about these kind of videos; when the bird leaves, I think it's over, and I start looking for another video to watch. Then I'm confused for a second when the bird comes back, before I realize I'm just watching random bird footage and not a scripted movie

Jays used to be loud where I am from (Jax) when I was younger in the late 70s. Nowadays I barely hear them anymore. They are here just not as vocal....or maybe I’m just not listening like I diid then?

I want to feed my blue jays stuff like this but the squirrels will get it first. I love my squirrels and everything but I want to feed the blue jays too. I have to throw peanuts one by one to the jays or the squirrels get em all.
I love blue jays, so much fun, especially when they trust you. They put peanuts in my neighbors gutters.

Blue jays are great at making a wide variety of sounds and theyre very smart. If they know what a hawk sounds like and there are other songbirds near a feeding spot, theyll mimic the hawk to scare off the songbirds so they can get the meal to themselves!

No, that's Red from Angry Birds; Margaret is a robin (a Red Robin, specifically), not a male Cardinal.

Hmm. Exact same kinda blue jays I got, similar sort of sound types but still sounds different. is there a regional difference between the noises they make?
Definitely , i'm in North Carolina now and the Jays act and sound different than in Florida.
Eastern Ontario here. Definitely a difference between mine and the ones in your video, that's for sure.
I have a Jay that calls for me with very distinct calls. I love the monkey sound, but I have yet to find any Jay video with one making a frog noise. I have a very cute and comical jay that literally sounds froggy.

At 1:23 that is the unmistakable sound of a Red Tail that he is doing. I noticed that they wipe their beaks like chickens do when they eat. Do all birds to do that??

Pet bird owner here: can confirm if he gets something wet or sticky on his beak he will wipe it on whatever is around... including YOU 😅

I tried to feed my squirrel's a banana and they all sniffed and looking at it and ran away.Oh they love the grapes and a little bit of bread.But the next day it was gone, probably raccoon.

A male, the Mom Cardinals are an olive green.
That sound is actually part of their "whisper song". I imagine that they whisper to each other when they feel safe, happy and content! I just love blue jays, such a beautiful, intelligent and interesting bird! Thanks for yoy blue jay videos!
