I use an analog ammeter with an inline fuse connected to the test lead rated for the ammeter size. Works for finding parasitic current draw. You are a good teacher!

How do I connect an ammeter to in a motorcycle? Where should I make the series connection?

In the same manner as a car. You will have to find a junction to separate in the circuit to hook your meter up to. I hope that helps.

...amps are amps right? Can I hook up an older(1950) D..l...C ammeter from the main positive terminal of the alternator, and the #2 terminal of the alternator?

My alt puts out more than average ammeter reads. Common for diesel engine alternators actually. Mines 135amp and I may go to 150 in the future. My big truck is 200amp for that matter. Anyway.... is there a way to purposefully miss match a shunt and ammeter and do the math in your head. example..... use a typical 60amp ammeter with a shunt that would result in a meter that always shows off by a third.... so If I am showing 60 amp...... im in big trouble cause that would be 180amp out of a 135amp alt. in real life. If I am showing 30amp...... then in real life Im at 90amp and that is fine if I'm winching and bumped my idle up to get that 90amp. etc etc.
Doing so would possibly lower cost for this poh manz build... the ammeters that can read up to 150 are stupid expensive even before you buy the shunt. (or hall effect sensor)
so with that in mind.... ifffffff that would work... what shunt for 60amp ammeter knowing I will be off by a factor of three?
so with that in mind.... ifffffff that would work... what shunt for 30amp ammeter knowing I will be off by a factor of five?

Hi Thanks much. I just discovered your channel! I will get good info from you.
My question? My ammeter has no, zero instructions with it. How can I test which stud is positive on the ammeter? How can I determine how to wire the ammeter without instructions? I have googled ammeter wiring diagrams, and have diagrams that show both studs as positive. That's wrong. Can I test with the power from a 1 ½ volt battery and my meter? Thank you!

Think I'll go with a volt meter in my 82 foxbody build. Lol the ammeter seems way to much to wire up 🤣. Kinda wish I paid attention more in electrical class, instead of just being a parts changer.
Also if your able to get a printed circuit board diagram for an 82 Mustang please share 😑

Well done you didn't manage to explain anything, go back look at your work, then have a think about it and do it again, you know what you want to explain, you know what you are talking about, have a little more faith in yourself and I'm sure you will do well.
