the Surgeon/doctor that saved Henry V clearly knew what the hell he was doing, reading that on the surgery clearly showed he was damn good at what he did and yes to be able to treat royalty he had to be good but remember this was late 1300's early 1400's when the surgery was done, I have read horror stories less scary than some medieval treatments and surgeries.

The late 80s and early 90s saw a veritable revival of the Bards works, almost entirely thanks to Kenneth and Emma ( Thompson ), Brian Blessed, and co. It was a charmed time. And one very challenging to envisage reaching that sort of mass appeal today, sadly. Except in wretchedly simplified versions.

As an American, Henry V stands on my top list of favorite English Kings. I attribute this to when I was 10 years old, I played sick from school, while my mother was at the grocery store, I turned on Starz TV and the 1989 Henry V was on with Kenneth Branagh. It fascinated me with other medieval history, other than The Crusades.

Henry V is one figure in history I always think ‘What if?’ What if he hadn’t died young? What if he managed to continue his French campaign and live long enough to be crowned? What if he had more children? Would he have conquered all of France? Would have come to an agreement and split France in two? Would he have lost it all? Let it slip and fall? Who knows?

Both Edward III and Henry V were true leaders who gained a lot of French territories. Beyond some famous battles like Crécy, Poitiers and Azincourt, both were able to get the financial support of their country in moving forward with the war + to negotiate with the French solid deals very much in favor of the English. Additionally, both were figthing against poor leaders on the French side: Philippe VI (King of France from 1328 to 1350), Jean Le Bon (King of France from 1350 to 1364), and Charles VI "Le Fou" (King of France from 1380 to 1422). But France also could rely on its leaders: namely Charles V (King of France from 1364 to 1380) and Charles VII (King of France from 1422 to 1461). The first one almost finished the 100-year war (Calais and a tiny part of Guyenne still belonged to England when he died in 1380). His grand-son, Charles VII, kicked out the English from France in 1453 (except in Calais).

As I understand it, Henry V was the first heir to the English throne that was dubbed “Prince of Wales.” Wales had been conquered by England, and at one point the Welsh came to Henry IV and asked him to at least put someone born in Wales in charge of them. Since his own son had been born in Monmouth, he named him the Prince of Wales.

"English longbow" - was actually the Welsh longbow, and one reason why it took so long to "pacify" Wales.
Henry saw the potential and had his own longbowmen; Agincourt ensured that it would forever be known as the "English longbow"
Isaac Asimov did an essay on it: "The Unsecret Weapon"

Thanks for your great work on these various figures in history and keep up the great work!!😃

530 years later -- on the same day -- US naval task force Taffy 3 ALSO won a battle they had no business getting into (I mean....when the main Japanese ship -- the Yamato -- outweighs the ENTIRE enemy force...).

Eamon DeValera (1882-1975) - prominent political leader in 20th century Ireland who, after the Irish war of independence from 1919 to 1921, was in the public eye for over forty years from 1922 until his death were he served as head of government (Taoiseach) and head of state (president). He was nearly executed in the Easter Rising in 1916 and was key in putting into place the new constitution on 1937. A very prominent Irish figure and one of the most important in Irish history.

Humbly requesting George Carlin. A comedian and satirist who oftentimes hit the nail more than just on the head; and whose bits were infinitely more than just satire. The guy was a comedian, satirist, begrudged philosopher, and even the narrative voice of Thomas the Train.
