What would you say to those who are Leary of Tic Tock?
Thank you for your awesome video. It helped me a lot. I have two books that I sell on Amazon-Kindel, where I do not have to keep an inventory and it is a self-publishing platform. I was wondering how I can connect the TikTok shop to the Amazon/Kindle purchase order. Do you have any suggestions? Do you keep an inventory of your books? Thanks , Franco
Hello! Thank you. You can't connect KDP to TikTok Shop unfortunately. You can set up TikTok Shop if you'd like to order author copies and ship out your own inventory. I personally just sell on Amazon and other retailers, and direct my viewers to go purchase there
Hi Shelby, you produce great content for sure. So much value for free and you speak from experience and in-depth knowledge. Thank you for that. I've had trouble growing my Tik Tok account but I've been using it pretty sporadically. I wonder if I just need more consistency and a solid way to add new followers and get more likes to my videos. A lot of my videos get no engagement at all even though they seem pretty good to me.
I appreciate that! Thank you. It's hard to say what it could be without seeing your content. Consistency helps without a doubt, but engaging content that speaks to your ideal audience is most effective and that takes experimentation with new styles, lengths of videos, messaging, etc! Keep going and trying new things, asking your audience questions to get engagement, etc. :)

Do you think TikTok is better for selling activity books than Instagram or TH-cam shorts? If so, why?
Thank you, this is really helpful! Do you think it's best for authors to stick to one type of video, so viewers know what to expect from your account? For instance, only aesthetic videos or only page flip videos?
Thank you! I do, yes. I think it's great to experiment with 2-3 and see what works best for your audience but then stick to just 1 style (maybe 2). TikTok pages who stay streamlined seem to be more successful!

Thank you for this. If I have a following on my personal TikTok page currently (close to 5k), I haven’t promoted my book but I’ve mentioned it’s coming, should I create an author profile and promote that page?
If your books are not related to what you've talked about on your personal page, yes I would create an author page so you can stay focused and not confuse your current audience
Do you use call to actions at the end to direct traffic to your books?
Yes! Sometimes in the video, but always either in the caption or comments section of the post :)
when you are a new account and don't have a following where do you refer them to buy the book since you can't have your website in the bio. thanks!
If you sell on Amazon or well known retailer, just say that in the caption or comments in posts about your book. If you only sell on your website it's a bit trickier because you shouldn't put a direct url in a video or caption/comments, so you can connect your Instagram if you have one and encourage people to buy through your profile there, or say something like "Books available at colleenmooney dot com" and see how that goes!

Hi Shelby, I’m an author who writes in different genres. Is it possible to market different genres effectively on the same account? I have sci-fi/fantasy, poetry, bedtime stories, creative non-fiction, and literary fiction. Can I market all on the same account?
Hello! It is more challenging. The algorithm really favors one clear audience & topic in your content. I would start with an account for one, whichever genre you'd like to focus on most. On TikTok you'd have most success with scifi/fantasy, poetry or nonfiction depending on the topic 😊

Yes that's correct. Amazon does not have an integration with TikTok Shop.
@@marketingbyshelby Given the wild success people are having with TikTok Shop, is there no workaround that's worth the effort to use it as authors?
@justinglaser1237 well some companies are coming out with integrations, such as BookFunnel to integrate with TikTok Shop! But no workaround with Amazon that I know of

Hi! You can use any service you want. Amazon KDP, Ingram Spark, etc. Once you hit 1k followers you then can link to your book in your bio like any other social media platform.
Or you can use TikTok Shop and sell books directly through TikTok but you must ship the copies yourself.

@TheMagicInWonderland I used Amazon KDP when I was self published. :) You just tell people where your book is available so they know where to look. In every caption of my posts I state my book title and that it's available on Amazon

I know its hard to say from afar but it seems TikTok has flagged my publishing account for whatever reason and is therefor not showing my videos in FYP. So my views are under 10 consistently. Just not possible. So I m actually thinking of starting a new account. I wrote to them but they are not responding. I even deleted two videos that were directly flagged. The thought of starting new came now cause you said that publishing vids straight away is not so good. Thats what i did. What is your opinion?
If this has been going on for longer than a couple weeks with that low of views, then yes I would start with a new account!
@@marketingbyshelby Sorry to come to you again - so I followed your advice from yesterday and deleted myy TikTok account as it was flagged. But it seems I cant start a fresh one as any new account is phone nr based and that of course is the same nr as for the deleted account. TikTok recognizes the nr and the only thing I CAN do is reactivated the account I m trying to delete. What do I do? I deleted cookies. Will that do the trick?
@@SvenGeorgiev I've always been able to create a different account with different email addresses. Not sure where you're located but are you able to get a free phone number? Like in the US we have Google Voice and can get a different number easily

Is there something that leads you to believe you were shadowbanned? Any warnings or posted anything that could be misconstrued as against their guidelines?
My videos are no longer showing up on the FYP and some videos have been flagged as unable to be shown there. But these are the exact same types of videos as what I normally post. Nothing unusual at all 🤷♀️
What are your thoughts on TikTok shop?
I think it is awesome for authors who want to sell direct. TikTok is definitely pushing accounts who use it right now!
@@marketingbyshelby But you haven't used it yet? I'm hesitating because if you have a shop account they penalize you for giving a CTA to your link. Yet, I also have free downloads and programs I want people to get access to.
