Terrific sequences - and historic too! I'm old enough to have seen 001s on this traffic - but don't have video of them, so this is much appreciated thanks!

Amazing. Something that will never be seen again unfortunately

Yes it’s sad there won’t be trains like this running again. But there’s other traffic lost that could make a comeback.

Great video of a traffic now gone. The 9 tank trains only lasted a while.

I remember seeing a film of the initial trials of this train and it was 9 wagons with an A Class!

@@SouthernYard An A class could barely lift 6 laden out of Cork but could work 9 empty alright.

I never recall seeing an ammonia wagon outside the barrier wagon

first time I've seen one too. It was empty I guess as it was heading back to Marino Point and it was at the rear of the train too. Interesting one for us modellers though!

      Possibly going back for repairs?

The tanks outside the barrier wagons were decompressed and were probably heading for repairs or being brought back into service after repairs. They were allowed outside of the barrier wagon as they had no risk of a release if hit!

Nice video in great sunshine! I always wondered what direction the ammonia went; did it go to Marino Point or Shelton Abbey. I know it was needed for the manufacture of artificial fertiliser.

Went full from Marino, empty from Shelton

    Thanks for nothing ILDA

true but the two plants closed down anyway later on and likely would have done either way. I do wonder though, will we ever see this traffic again. Ireland wants to position itself as a big hydrogen hub, making the stuff from vast offshore renweables but the same energy could take the nitrogen from the air and make it into ammonia->fertilisers too. The resources would all be available domestically.

@@murphaph The writing was on the wall for the freight but ILDA was a handy scapegoat. The IFI plants were in trouble anyway and ILDA tried to keep the Ammonia going but ran into opposition.
