Envirobase’s bread and butter is the chips, but PPG made huge improvements with their camera. The camera gets me a butt match all day with solids, but I always cross reference metallics with the chips or my spray outs. Their rating system is weird. Under 10 is allegedly a butt match.
A lot of people have said their chips are good, but this place never had the chips or made many spray outs, so I was left to pick from what visualise was offering. To be honest it gave me good solids too.
being an axalta guy, I understand what your saying about color match. but I want to give you a heads up also. ppg may feel not as nice with colour matches, you need to find the constant, do colors constantly go more or less hue, it more or less chroma. figure that out and you'll nail shit. I use horrible sikkens autowave mm, you want to see terrible colour matching, spray that garage, their colours are so bad that most the time you have to colour your sealer to help the base. and then your base takes anywhere from 3 to 5 coats on average and some blues and oranges like Chrysler pl4, to get coverage on that, 2 orange sealers (waste of time) followed by 7 to 8 coats base. so don't worry ppg is heeps better than what you could be using. if you ever go to a shop that says they run sikkens, RUN AWAY FAST lol
Hi Paul, it's a shame when you have to struggle to get a good match using your paint scheme when these days it's all computerised so you should be able to trust it🤦♂Gabe is an amazing painter and a true professional but I didn't notice that he was doing all these blends when you are saying they shouldn't be needed, hearing that must mean the paint scheme isn't doing it's job making your job so much harder. Have you watched any of the Gunman's videos Paul, he's on PPG now but where he worked before he also used PPG and he wasn't very happy with the colour matching and the primers but I think where he is now he has managed to find a workaround so I don't know if it's worth watching or contacting him🤔 Have to agree with you on the Porphis PRD-717 mate it's a really nice gun and I would like the 715 as well👍
@JohnWD40TC02 yea I'm thinking this might be the reason Gabriel blends a lot. Him and the gunman have been valuable resources to refer too. I'll just keep plodding along and learning lol I get lots of comments about the Porphis, great guns
@ScottSmead3 lol It sucks that there is no visual when you use the adjust button. I'm back on spies hecker now so colour matching isn't a problem anymore lol.
Yep.. been working with ppg for a while now.. and yeah, spies is better for colour match.. if you don't have it.. ask for the Xi system to be installed.. find it to be better. Would say.. as I use this paint everyday.. I would say you don't need to drop the solid colours.. and one wet coat and a mid coat would have done the job.. do they have you using the 8177 lacquer?
@paulphillipspaintwork yeah, I really love the 8177.. get really good results with it.. I find it like to be warm.. have mine stored about 10 inch's from a radiator.. sounds like we might have the same reps.. they've had us move onto the dmfast stuff now for a couple of months.. would like to hear what you think of the airdry primer they have us using.. The jury is still out for us.. lol
@@paulphillipspaintwork yh looks fantastic i just watched one of your videos painting the metallic green with this gun and it came out as good as a premium brand gun.. i might look jnto buying a pair i could do with some cheaper end wet on wet primer guns these could work for that but now seeing you base n clear i might just keep em for that great value for money. How ling have u owned them? Wonder if they would last tho? If im buying il be using your discount code lol
@BoundByHonor700 yea they are great. I saw a video where Oile Oile paintz left his in the gun was for a week and had no issues. I've had mine for 5 months now and they look and spray like they are fresh out of the box. Porphis also sell all possible spare parts which is great if you should ever need some thing they are available. Thanks

I'm definitely an Axalta guy too, but that's awesome advice I'll try and find where the constant is and adapt. Thanks 👍

I've been using ppg for a year now and the only way to get a good match is to blend everything the camera is as good as useless.
@dsparks2522 thanks lol the more I look at ppg videos they all seem to blend everything.

sometimes the adjuster button will make it worse Lol I been spraying ppg envirovase for a couple years and the color matching is ass !!!!

Did you see Candyman switched from Envirobase to Glaserit? Must be nice!
No I haven't, Glasurit is awesome paint I used it quite a bit in the past.

@Sovereign80 thanks I'll ask about the Xi system and keep that in mind. Yes we are on the 8177 clear coat. So we only bake for 10 mins.

Great job what is the name of the clear gun your using never seen before is it a budget style gun?
@BoundByHonor700 it's a porphis 717. It's about £200 fairly new to the market. Great performance and quality it's one of my favourite guns at the min.

@@stavros-r5c 😆 I haven't had poor gloss levels yet. But I'll keep an eye out 😆
