I recently got a brand new silver sky se in a trade. i’ve owned many player series guitars over the years. i am absolutely comfortable in saying that the prs outperforms the player series guitars in nearly all aspects that i consider important in a guitar. i could happily own this as my only s type guitar and not feel like i’m missing out.
We've heard this a lot the past few weeks. It's pretty exciting seeing how much positive feedback the Silver Sky is getting. Absolutely NOTHING wrong with many of the other offerings out there of course, but very cool to see a PRS in mix.
@Desert Drive-In Theater why would you be afraid to take your American Strat out of the house but not the SE? Very strange. Guitars are meant to taken out of the house. American Strats and Gibsons are w everywhere
I do like the Silver Sky SE, BUT there is one problem and that is changing strings as the ball ends do get stuck/jammed in the trem block thus requiring a tool to force them out and it also forces you to re-adjust the intonation which is a real pain in the butt. I don't know if the SE version has modified the manufacture of the trem blocks yet, so...
I love this idea ! I think all of us have witnessed that TH-cam has become one big product infomercial site with home videos in between. We're tired of unboxing videos which prove NOTHING. This is the only way to do justice ! Now, to see what he says.
I preferred the SE in every one of the comparisons. But what I really liked was that J played the same lick while going thru the positions. Not many reviewers do that.
This is the type of comparison people should be doing with these guitars. It stops people from listening with their eyes, which I think many people do when they are attached to a brand of guitar. The only thing is you'd definitely be able to feel that cut out the PRS has on the body.
Thanks for the feedback and kind words. We actually made sure the guys didn't see or feel the two guitars at all before the were blindfolded sitting down hoping this would help keep it as fair as possible haha. We also told them not to touch the headstock/tuners at all. We're hoping to do more of these when we have a few guitars that fit the format.
Not sure how objective that test was with all those PRS guitars and amps in the backdrop…the PRS is a great value, sounds great, but the Strat sounds more…STRATTY. And it has the correct headstock…while I absolutely LOVE the rosewood fretboard on the PRS, I can’t fathom why anyone would put primer coloured PLASTIC tuner buttons and truss rod cover on the PRS…like 🤦♂️ that’s some seriously kitch design choice. If I end up with the PRS, changing the tuners would be my absolutely first thing to do. I don’t think that fender has anything to worry about, if you want a Strat in a world that has a Strat, why settle for anything else? Whoever buys the PRS is gonna be either a PRS or a John Mayer fan, or looking for a Strat with rosewood that’s affordable. I’m not a fender fan boy, I’m impartial.
So I have the exact same pink player strat and SS Maple they're both amazing. A strat is unmistakable, but the PRS is a different take on it. From feel, sounds, texture, etc. Keep up the good work guys.
Yes! The SS is different sounding ... more mid, a different delicateness, different feel... The Fender has more high shimmer and embellishments. I’m gonna change out my Fenders pickups to make the difference even bigger to cover even more sonic territory. Looking at the possibilities. Exciting
I have just bought a se silver sky, beautiful guitar, has the right s type sound for my ears, I've had lots of strats, mex and American, I feel I can play the PRS easier, no idea why I just can.
The first guy thought the Fender was brighter... I heard the complete opposite. I loved the tone of the Fender better, but the PRS was cleaner. So I will always go with a cleaner sound and then adjust my tone down to my preference. You can always tone down a guitar, but you can't make them cleaner.
Good video guys. Can't wait to play the PRS myself, never played a Strat like guitar (and it doesn't have to be a Strat!!). If I don't win giveaway, it will be on order!!
The comparison was so brief. Would have liked to see a bit more time with the guitars and ask them the questions before revealing which guitar was which
We totally agree. Once we started the edit we realized we should have had the fellas play some more, switch pickup positions, etc. Thanks for the feedback!
I have a American Fender with all rosewood neck and a Prs se silver sky. Very hard to keep Fender as it’s sitting as the Prs is just the perfect S guitar. The neck and pickups just put it over the top.
Hi Guys, That is one of the best ways to do a comparison between guitar models. Great idea . Stay safe and well and keep Rocking. Signed John Gregory/Zepbass from Munster Indiana.
I think the PRS sounds better played alone without other instruments, but the Fender sounds better when recording or playing in a band. Electric guitars are seldom played alone so I always judge an electric guitar by the way it sounds with other instruments.
The PRS sounds clearer and with less fret buzz even! I would like to see a comparison between a PRS Silver Sky and an American Standard Stratocaster (if still available) The Player Series is too bright for my liking.
I wanted to like the PRS as I have a couple of early SE's that I love. But a Strat's definition just does it for me. The kind that you buy at a second-hand store. On a Strat, just use the Tone controls !
Despite the playability aspects and everything, to which I think the silver sky takes the lead, the the Fender guitar always sounds more like a strat and always will
Hey there - our shop is listing the SEs as soon as they come in and not doing pre-orders. You can sign up for in-stock alerts so you can be notified as soon as we get them in our shop and they're ready to ship! ish.guitars/collections/prs-se-silver-sky
I bought a Fender Player, and the frets were so bad they gave me a credit to go to an authorized dealer to fix them. A bunch of really uneven ones, and some fret sprout.
Sort of a tough comparison because it is a totally different guitar overall. The Silver Sky will get you more of that glassy strat style tone. Custom 24 SE in theory would be a bit more versatile since it has the humbucking pickups and can also do the coil split tones.
The sharp fret edges can come from sprout is from the wood shrinking in relation to the frets, assuming the frets were not sharp from the factory. My assumption is that this is from the wood not being dried enough before being cut.
Yes, and this happens more with maple fretboard, particularly in the winter. Looks like Ish is in upstate NY, low winter humidity. I know this all to well, living in MN. :)
Can we stop comparing maple neck strata against rosewood neck Silver Sky’s. Dude everyone is doing these comparisons and each fretboard as their own voice.
11:06 I mean the fact you can identify it…. Doesn’t that make it special???? I don’t have a side in the comparison just wanted to hear the differences.
I think the prs is a expensive copy. So when i pay the Same Price i would always take the original. And dthe Body from the prs is pappel like by The Squier ones 🤷♂️ but its Only my opinion
The difference in sound is very big in my opinion. I didn't look at the video and it took me about 2 seconds of playing to know the first one was a Silver Sky. I didn't even have to hear the second guitar Edit: oh, there was a second test. Same thimg though: 2 seconds of playing and I could tell it was a Fender without a doubt. The guitars are very different in terms of sound, and that's a good thing imo.
Prs isn't under any circumstances better than the players Stratocaster not even people including myself are so tired of TH-camrs trying to convince us of total bullsh*t when it's so easy to find out..the silver sky is not better than a mia or mim fenders period
Why is everyone comparing the PRS with a Fender. As Paul Reed Smith and John Mayer have stated, this is NOT a Strat. Like thousands of other Guitars in this shape they get called "S" type. I suggest that people who buy the Fender want a Fender people who don't want a Fender but a 3 single coil "S" shaped well made Guitar will opt for the quality and reliability of PRS.
Totally get where you're coming from. Being that the Silver Sky guitars were directly inspired by a vintage strat and John Mayer played them for years it only makes sense that a TON of players out there want to see how the SE stacks up to its Fender counterparts.
Lol that is far from a fact, especially considering both blindfolded players preferred the sound of the SS. For what it's worth I do too, at least compared to a bog standard mim player. The player strat here was even suffering from some gnarly choking on bends where the prs didn't. If the prs sounded dead to you then that is just your simply your opinion and you're welcome to it.
@@ishguitars lol hahahaha great way to answer to the haters... Why is so hard for people accept that prs did a great guitar in this price range? If they like fender more, maybe the competition will bring better quality overall. But is clear, within the same price range, the SS is just superior in feel and tones.
I don't want to watch a non expert guess brands. Would have been way better if he went back and forth and choose his favorite. But I'm not the one with a TH-cam channel
What I love about the PRS Silver Sky SE is that fenders have to either drop in price or improve quality to compete. Its a win for both sides

@@ishguitars the fact that fender has serious competition in this price point is a good thing for everyone.
Yes I think I'm trading in a brand new custom PRs custom 24 Se. .I hope I'm not making a mistake.
@Desert Drive-In Theater why would you be afraid to take your American Strat out of the house but not the SE? Very strange. Guitars are meant to taken out of the house. American Strats and Gibsons are w everywhere

Where can I get those chairs? They look so comfortable and perfect for guitar playing.

You know they all were expecting the gift to be the guitar they said they wanted to keep. You can’t just ask that question and not let them have it!
Entertaining video! I’m a big PRS fan (all lines), so I’m not surprised by the result.
So I have the exact same pink player strat and SS Maple they're both amazing. A strat is unmistakable, but the PRS is a different take on it. From feel, sounds, texture, etc. Keep up the good work guys.

The prs seems warmer and rounder yet still bright. Less harsh on the little spikes on the highs
I have just bought a se silver sky, beautiful guitar, has the right s type sound for my ears, I've had lots of strats, mex and American, I feel I can play the PRS easier, no idea why I just can.

Strat sounds much better in terms of stratishness
The winner here is that victory. Sounds great with both!
Such great amps🤤
Good video guys. Can't wait to play the PRS myself, never played a Strat like guitar (and it doesn't have to be a Strat!!). If I don't win giveaway, it will be on order!!
I would imagine the strat with the tone rolled off to 8 would be similar to the PRS
Thank you for being VERY TRANSPARENT with your comparison.
In the first example the silver sky sounds like 10 times better. It is ridiculous!
This was fun, not sure why but the blindfold comparisons feel like they throw a bit of spice into the mix!
It adds a nice element of fun.
The comparison was so brief. Would have liked to see a bit more time with the guitars and ask them the questions before revealing which guitar was which

? ? I’m wondering how the PRS SE model made in Indonesia, compares to a made in Japan Yamaha model?
Hi Guys, That is one of the best ways to do a comparison between guitar models. Great idea . Stay safe and well and keep Rocking. Signed John Gregory/Zepbass from Munster Indiana.
Really appreciate the different opinions
I think the PRS sounds better played alone without other instruments, but the Fender sounds better when recording or playing in a band. Electric guitars are seldom played alone so I always judge an electric guitar by the way it sounds with other instruments.

That’s what the tone control is for.
The demo was very well played. Lots of lovely clean strat tones to illustrate the different sonics. Bravo
I wanted to like the PRS as I have a couple of early SE's that I love.
But a Strat's definition just does it for me.
The kind that you buy at a second-hand store.
On a Strat, just use the Tone controls !

Absolutely!
These sold out everywhere the day they were offered. How do I get one sooner than April/May (like Sweetwater is predicting)?

Nice one boys!
Is the question "can you tell the difference between maple and rosewood fingerboards"?
I bought a Fender Player, and the frets were so bad they gave me a credit to go to an authorized dealer to fix them. A bunch of really uneven ones, and some fret sprout.
back in the day--one model of Strat was available ---now so many-hit and miss ordeal--just pick up the se Strat -done
You can feel the difference with the cut away lol
I like the blindfolded comparisons. I don't need a blindfold though, I'll take both guitars!
I think asking how each each guitar felt could've been answered while still blindfolded.
Very good point. We definitely learned a lot doing this and plan on doing more in the future. Definitely with more playing for sure also!
He can still see it from downward hahaha!
How would you compare that to the PRS custom 24 SE.
Sort of a tough comparison because it is a totally different guitar overall. The Silver Sky will get you more of that glassy strat style tone. Custom 24 SE in theory would be a bit more versatile since it has the humbucking pickups and can also do the coil split tones.
I must be weird, but I LIKE the screw in trem bar.
Shame we have to wait till friggin April !!!!!
The PRS bridge pickup, to my ears, is actually usable. I think the Strat bridge pickup is too harsh / ice-picky sounding.
No Fender doesn't make these Player Strats with rosewood fretboard for same price. These are only made with Pau Ferro.
Good catch you're absolutely right!
Often imitated never duplicated.
In the UK the Silver Sky SE costs 50% more than the Player. On par with the Player Plus+ price wise.
Probably UK taxes
LOL the guy on the right of the screen wouldnt shut up long enough for anyone else to talk.. shheesh
The sharp fret edges can come from sprout is from the wood shrinking in relation to the frets, assuming the frets were not sharp from the factory.
My assumption is that this is from the wood not being dried enough before being cut.
Very good point. Being that we have seen a good amount of these guitars in for repair here at the shop with the same issue it is entirely possible.
Yes, and this happens more with maple fretboard, particularly in the winter. Looks like Ish is in upstate NY, low winter humidity. I know this all to well, living in MN. :)
April ? REALY!!
PRS is so good, it reminds me a bit of James tyler when tried , I shouldn't try it , I ended up buying it for my gear arsenal.
Those hats look hot indoors.
Great comparison.
Too bad you didn’t have a rosewood board fender. Would have made for a better comparison.
Totally agree, sadly we could only get our hands on the maple version locally for the video.
The PRS hands down is the Best
Can we stop comparing maple neck strata against rosewood neck Silver Sky’s. Dude everyone is doing these comparisons and each fretboard as their own voice.
More proof fingerboard wood makes NO difference.
a maple vs rosewood comparison isn't exactly the best way to compare
11:06 I mean the fact you can identify it…. Doesn’t that make it special????
I don’t have a side in the comparison just wanted to hear the differences.
I think the prs is a expensive copy. So when i pay the Same Price i would always take the original. And dthe Body from the prs is pappel like by The Squier ones 🤷♂️ but its Only my opinion
Blind folded you can easily tell difference just by fret edges. Fenders fretwork these days is so poor.
silver sky win but the grey tuners killed it
Dylan cheated touching the controls of the fender right when he got the guitar and said after he didnt knew... unfair
The difference in sound is very big in my opinion. I didn't look at the video and it took me about 2 seconds of playing to know the first one was a Silver Sky. I didn't even have to hear the second guitar

Couldn't agree more! The Silver Sky just offers just a bit different flavor.
I guess only by the twanginess you can tell which one is the fender
Pea just looks cheap for same money reckon the 24-08 is better
Man that headstock is just so ugly though
I like the Indonesian made one over the Mexican made. not as bright to me
SE is more expensive than player in the UK
Prs isn't under any circumstances better than the players Stratocaster not even people including myself are so tired of TH-camrs trying to convince us of total bullsh*t when it's so easy to find out..the silver sky is not better than a mia or mim fenders period

@@joshuaireland5510 it's not an opinion. The pickups in the silver sky have zero treble. They are the darkest sc pickups I've heard
If you can't tell the difference between a real guitar fender from a copy of the other PRS maybe you do something else in life like a fishing show
I think this is a good idea. We can use the strat as bait!
