    OK Guys, get ready to snicker. I'm a 'young' 77-year-old Disabled American Veteran (Vietnam)and a real "newbie" when it comes to RC Vehicles since this is the first one I've ever had! I bought it for myself as a Christman present, and now my daughter, and two granddaughters, think I've lost my mind. All I can say to that is "Maybe so"!
    Having introduced myself, and subscribed to your channel here so as to learn as much as I can about my new 'hobby'. One thing I was really happy to hear you say was your comment about it being a little too fast and your comment about the turning radius. Although I've only been able to take it outside once since it's Winter here, I first thought Whoa; will I ever gain full control over this? I mean this thing, with the slightest touch of the forward/backward switch takes off like a scared deer! Because of that, I was very successful in immediately into the neighbor's flower garden mulch. Well, that served as a baptism both to me and the Humvee.
    Of course, at my advancing age, something this new is a challenge to one's brain. After that first trial run I was a little discouraged and brought it in, cleaned it up a bit, and told myself that as soon as Spring rolls around (it's now mid-January) I'm going to take it over to the Church parking lot, where it will actually be difficult even for me to damage, and practice, practice, practice. I've checked out several of the videos on here regarding this model and discovered, not at all to my surprise, that the vast majority of owners of this little gem are 20-somethings. That's OK since I can learn some of the new thoughts about it, just as I did from you here.
    My model is the Tan color and I don't intend to do anything to it since I know for certain as soon as I attempted to disassemble even a small part of it, I'd never be able to put it back together; don't get me wrong, I'm not beginning to get senile, it's just that some of my 'experiences' in combat have left me with quite a bit of nerve damage and the result of that is it has killed a couple of brain cells! Ha!
    OK, I've subbed your channel and will follow your progress on this, hoping to pick up a few tips along the way. Thanks for your uploaded video; and I'm looking forward also to see if anyone reaches out to me with suggestions. At this stage of my experience, any suggestion would be helpful...
    Best,
    D.O'D.
    PS I'm also looking forward to the customizing that you said you were going to be doing. Admittedly, I'm writing this comment in the middle of January 2020 so you may well have already begun (or finished)!

      @@scalebuildersguild yes it does.
      Another you tuber did a couple of videos on that. Scale speed in low gear looked really good (on video anyway) the forest type terrain they ran it on. In another video from the same person they disassembled the entire model to show the interior of the transmission, differentials and electronic system. I only mention that so maybe you don't need to go to the trouble yourself if you're curious about the internals. If I may offer my opinion on changes you might make, that front bumper/ grill guard just doesn't look right. But that's just my thought. I'm sure anything you do will be great!

    The RC4WD black HUMVEE bead locks with Axial BFG Baja Terrain tires on it or Goodyear MT-R’s. Haven driven one more times than I can count... that’s what tires were on the truck. 24 bolt bead lock rims. Weathering will give it great contrast. If you were to buy a military version from a government liquidator that sell's them, they’re stripped of the doors, chassis bomb plates, roof, and variant model pieces. As the windshield and complete doors are bulletproof.... and the gov is not selling those pieces to the public for obvious reasons. Lower gearing and good suspension

    I have this rig as well. have had it for a few weeks. I ditched that 16ch Trx and Rx and run it with my Dx4s and a 410rx. I re-did the wiring so my headlights are always on not momentum as stock, I also got it to turn lights on/off with channel 3. I did that with the existing light kit. its not that bad actually. Diffs MUST be locked for it to perform well, and having different tires makes a huge difference. Im running RC4WD Wrangler tires 106mm diameter, they fit great, no rub. The manual says 2s battery only. But I plan on replacing the esc since I am finding the stock has crap drag brake.

I imagine something beefy enough to drown out the real motor sound would have to be considerably larger than the native Trasped SFX module, but since it's already pretty crammed up in there as it is, will anything big enough for good sound even fit?

    I just picked one of these up based on your video (had never heard of it before that). Based on the no-load speed of 12,500 rpm, I'd say this is a 27 turn motor. Having driven mine quite a bit already, I find the speed quite reasonable. This isn't a crawler, but the low speed performance is decent. In high gear it is quick but not fast. You mention that it is good for 2s or 3s but according to the manual you are supposed to use only a 7.4V battery. I did try running mine on 3s and it works but I'm not sure how much heat it might generate and the extra speed is really not helpful anyway.
    I got the desert tan version and am looking forward to seeing what you do with the weathering.

    Matt,
    I retired from the Navy and I was a Seabee. I have driven many Humvees. Since you painted it Desert Tan, are you going to up armor the doors also? just google Seabee Humvee to find great pictures for inspiration. As far as the model.. it's true to life, noisy, and sounds like it can not change gears running from a dead stop. the suspension travel is non existent and visibility from the driver seat is horrible. The frame actually is black and what you did to turn it Desert Tan is more accurate than the green version. I would run a Spektrum Radio and a Holmes Hobby revolver motor with Castle Mamba X ESC. The Brushless ESC and Motor I mentioned make a lot of noise and that would compliment the model in its representation of the real one.

    As an military mechanic it's looks damn close, and yeah 35 turn motor would be good, and a good salt/rusty look would fit a civilian HMMWV as most are up north, and they really aren't as good at trailing as most think, but a good set like wrangler mts would work great

    You can lock the axles there is a tab in the front of the axle where you can pop it out and in the bags you got there is a screw that goes in their to lock the axle, I watched a video by Kevin Talbot and he found on line how you can do it hope this helps.

    Powdered metal and pot metal gears are two very different things. Powdered metal goes through a sintering process and is almost always a steel alloy. Pot metal is generally cast zinc or aluminum and much much weaker. Which one does this have?

    So the theme for the paint job is a civilian bought it from a military dispo sales lot eh? Ya know they have a lot of that going on in Ogden, Utah. Huge military dispo sales there. My guess for your paint job is it’s going to be slightly rusted and have an outdoorsy look to it. Like it was sitting in that dispo lot for some time. The civvie comes over to look at it and wonder what stories it has to tell, what missions it’s been on, what it’s seen, where it’s been. That’s often the adventure of buying those military dispo vehicles.

When mine arrives, I intend to change them with something oil filled, plus try to play around with the swing arms for a little more travel. Otherwise seems like a great rig, looking fwd to seeing what u do with it! 👍

    It's really common for Chinese manufacturers to leave the oil out if oil filled shocks. I'm guessing that since the shocks are so likely to leak the manufacturer just leaves the oil out so they dont have to deal with a bunch of warranty claims. The annoying thing is this makes them even worse than friction shocks as they basically have no damping at all.

    • @scalebuildersguild
      @scalebuildersguild  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good point, I’ll try filling it with oil!

    • @TechnicBlakbird
      @TechnicBlakbird 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The shocks do not support oil There is no hole in the piston so if you put in oil you'll get a hydraulic lock. The shocks are pneumatic (compress the internal gas).

    • @DoRC
      @DoRC 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TechnicBlakbird most cheapy shocks just rely on the space between the piston and the cylinder wall.to bypass the oil. I've oil filled many shock just like these. Works just fine. In order for them to be pneumatic there would have to be a much better seal. If you remove the spring you will feel there is basically no resistance unless you put oil in them.
