Unfortunately, according to Wikipedia the composer of this track Saki Kaskas died in 2016 at the age of 45. RIP, and may the music you've created never die.
REST IN PEACE SAKI. Your music helped define my childhood, you inspired me to become a music producer, and your music STILL continues to inspire me 18 years after having first heard it. I am at such a loss for words, and heart broken beyond belief. FOREVER an Inspiration.
Oushhhh me too, every time i step into omega's night club i reminisce hounding on the Mclaren F1 longtail around Durham Rd being chased by the po po 😁😁😁😁👌 good times. R.I.P Saki Kaskas
It's 1998 or 9, me and my friends were in the computer club, racing each other on NFS 4, as we called it, High Stakes, listening to some good music, exploring the game world, working in team to block the police and them try to race each other. The intro when the game booted was always my favourite... I am not gonna lie, I am a bit nostalgic, but back then the world was different. The Internet was full of interesting stuff, the music was sounding as such and had rhythm and melody. And the cars... Man, the cars. They were actually an elegant form made of metal and glass instead of oversized plastic. I've never owned any BMW but this game made me adore the BMW E39 M5. The best BMW in my opinion. One day I will source the right one, rebuild it, and have a blast on a mountainous windy road, listening to this masterpiece, reminiscing on life, what I have been through, the people I've met, the way life was back then and the way it is now. I was born in 1990, and I'd like to thank Saki and the people like him for giving me the chance to have a wonderful childhood full of memories! Such games and experiences are hard to come by today. RIP Saki.
Great comment. 👍🏻 This game is the very reason why I fell in love with BMWs. The E39 M5 was an awesome car in the game, and is a blast to drive IRL, but something about the Z3 2.8 really hit home to me and to this day still remains one of my favorite BMWs.
Same, I am born on march 1991 so close to 1990 so I totally get you man. And M5 E39 is the best m5 ever, in fact e39 is the most beautiful 5 series in history. Of course that E60, F10, G30 looked and looks great but E39 was legendary, that m5 had an immense impact on real world, I think that back then any car lover wanted to own an E39. It was so so damn and frigging impressive, cannot compare nowadays but back then the m5 was as desirable as the supercars. And I`ve felt in love back then with that black 911 turbo from the intro movie.
nice comment! i can absolutly relate! for me it was the very first nfs and the rockin soundtrack of saki that made me adore these 90s cars and the musik...and of course these games... this song has a nice dreamy nostalgic feel to it anyway...even though i didn't enjoy the nfs 4 soundtrack too much...
Saki лучший композитор, вечная тебе память мужик, ты это заслужил и гимн хвалебным одам о тебе ты уже сотворил прижизненно... Лучший саундтрек! Лучшая глава серии!

As a child I didn’t know I enjoyed electronic music until I heard this. Many decades later, 90s ethereal ambient and breakbeat still remains one of my favorite sub genres. This brought me to discover Sasha and Digweed, Nick Warren, and countless others.
While I was scrolling through the different songs in my captain’s cabin I chose this song and while I was going through the armour customization menu is when I realized why I chose this song 😃
You know, people say that... Unreal, or Castlevania, that either one of those is the greatest soundtrack of all time. It's not. This is. It fit so well, and the music sounds futuristic even 20 something years later. It stood the test of time, and the people that worked on it deserve all the credit they could. Saki is listening to this in heaven.
What sucks about this song is it was disabled in the options menu. The only way to hear it in the game was to enable it (PS1 version). When I first heard the song I was blown away. This is still one of the best soothing songs so listen to while playing the game. At one point this was the only song I had enabled for a time. It was just that magical. Just something about it. Soothing to its core and transcending to a inner gamer that will never be replicated. While it was reused in Mass Effect 2 and in 2015's need for speed, This will never take away its presence from Need for Speed High Stakes. It will always stick with me as a song I will always remember from this game
This game soundtrack is among the ones I won't forget... I was like 8 years old when I played this game and whenever I hear one of those songs, it feels like it was yesterday. Lamborghini Diablo was my dream car.
I bought a Mercedes SLK 230 Kompressor because of this game and first track i was listening in the car was this one. As a 10 year old i played this game all day long and the Mercedes was the first car in the game. Was the best drive of my life!
I still listening High Stakes soundtracks when i'm running... Amazing game, sountracks and Celtic Ruins record tries :) Best racing game ever N4S High Stakes
Best song ever brings back good memories of my dad miss you pops my dad bought me need for speed high stakes wen I was 6yrs old talk about 24 years ago still one sweet song.
remember my friend playing this game on his PS1 and at same time listning to this soundrtack and mastering every corner with white McLaren F1 in sunrise... dam....
I haven't played neither of these games, but reading your comment just made me feel happy. Like a song you haven't listened in a long time and don't even remember it, and then you hear it in a different game...
Brings happy tears to my eyes. But then i found out saki passed away. And it’s sad tears now. I wish they’d just get that fentanyl problem cleaned up in Vancouver already
Regardless what kind of song (instrumental or not) i'll ever hear, this will always be my top one. Showcasing the cars in NFS HS with this as background....feels like those days never went by.
A time when you could still flip from software to hardware rendering and see the menus and graphics turn all slick and smooth to this jam. Total late 90s pc gaming vibe.
this song is so powerful i remember my childhood and my love for the cars when i was 7 years old, today i have 20 and i stay listening this awesome music, this is the real electronic music from 1998 and is amazing

Only 45? I absolutely love this theme, but don't know much about Saki Kaskas. What did he died of?
@@lasnolan Are you too lazy to open wikipedia ? There is written pretty clear why he died.
Whether you first heard it from High Stakes or Mass Effect 2, Callista is a badass theme.

That is the way 👌Congrats on fulfilling the dream!
Congrats! This song always reminds me of that car too!
Wow... this explains why I liked Omega so much in ME2.
Reused from this game.
@Adam Demeter It was also in Need for Speed 2015. Something tells me that EA needs to reuse a lot of the classic NFS music.
