    I had this bad boy and Made great images with it…
    Then I bought a Z7II, thinking it is game changer.
    I spend a lot od money and got same thing 😂.
    My prints are almost identical, and yes other people will never notice that this image is shoot with a 3k camera and this with 900€….
    Z7 has its strenghts for sure, but for stills only I can’t justifiy the cost of higher end cameras.
    Hope this helps someone…if nothing, to Save some money 😁

      Ian Codilla I got my Nikon Z5 this past Monday and I was able to do three senior portrait sessions and two family portrait sessions. And I totally agree that the image quality does not lack anything compared to my Nikon Z6. I did a couple side-by-side shots during the one senior portrait and the Z5 is a dual card slot Nikon Z6 without the video specs and FPS. I use my z6 with my ftz adapter and tamron lenses seeing Lightroom isn’t accepting those files if I used those lenses on my z5. I bought it solely just to have the two card slots to do weddings. I will use my Z6 as a back up camera during weddings. I’m glad you like yours I am extremely happy with mine

    • @iancodilla5342

      @@LMActionsports perfect! The only other thing I really want from Nikon regarding the Z system now is faster eye af and eye af that hits from farther away. I use the ftz adapter and a sigma 24mm art and a Nikon 58mm 1.4g and this setup has been flawless so far.

      @@iancodilla5342 I used adapted lenses for the first year I had my Nikon Z6. Before they came out with the eye AF all the way up to firmware 3.0. and they came a long way from the first firmware update to now. I tried a Sony a73 and it was a little bit better not a whole lot better. But I bet Nikon we'll get there with a better firmware update . But I've been completely happy with the eye AF . And it's just as good on the Z5 as it is on the Z6.

    I highly recommend the Nikon Z5. I already have had the Z6 for the past 18 months and I cannot tell the difference between the two of them in image quality. The second card slot is a must have if you want to do weddings. That’s the main reason I bought it so I could use it as my main body for weddings and my Z6 as a back up. I only dabble a little bit with video so the Z5 has plenty for me what I would do with video. But if you’re seriously into video and photos I would recommend the Z6. But the Nikon Z5 is truly a little beast and it should be labeled as intermediate to professional camera.

    I went back and forth with this and the Z6/6ii. I ended up going with the Z5 as I just don't use fast bursts that much on my other body's that go up to 8.5. So I figured I won't really miss that. I'm not one to worry about video on the camera either, I'll just use my iPhone for anything I need there unless its a telephoto shot then the crop won't matter. Nikon seems to have made a great camera for the money and I look forward to using it with the 24-200 for travel. I ruled out Canon's R6 due to the lower end lenses lacking weather sealing. If money's no object that's a really nice system, but at a huge cost in comparison. The Z5 and 24-200 make a weather sealed combo for travel which is fantastic. The Z primes being weather resistant sealed the deal for me.

My first ever foray into full frames, jumping from that entry level APS-C Canon I've been using for years.....so far I have been astonished with the quality of the photos, especially so as this is the quality from a kit lens, not even from an 'S' lens. With IBIS and weather proofing and practically the same magnesium build and button layout without skimping on any single button from the Z6/7, this camera is a bargain!

      @@NBPT428 Hi Bill! I really like the Z system, still love the feel of the Z5 and the lenses are excellent. Image quality and colour is superb! One thing though is that I hike a lot and I feel the extra weight and bulk of full frame after being out all day. We also love to travel so I'm thinking of when travel opens up. What is it going to be like walking the streets of towns in Europe or on a beach somewhere warm? I know that I would love the image results but the heft and size of full frame has me thinking again. I had a brief thought of picking up a Z50 but the Z lenses are big. I'd really love to just have one system. I may try out an X-S10. A friend of mine sold his X-T2 and got one. He tells me for handling and comfort it is a lot better. He has setup custom tabs in the menu so he's not hunting as much through the menu and has the buttons customized to his liking. I still have my 18-55, so I may give it a try.

If I use my 18-55mm and my 35mm f2 with it, the whole package is small and weighs just over 2lbs. Controls and features aren't up to the X-S10 but with some Menu customization like your friends X-T2, it may not be bad. Still love the Z-5 but the weight/size of the lenses is still bugging me. I looked at several brands and even considered switching back to olympus since I primarily shoot macro and the built in focus bracketing is awesome. The z5 is what helped Nikon keep my business. Fitting a DX lens onto a DF body always felt like a massive compromise, however this body seems to invite the option and get the advantage of light weight and compact shooting of movies and stills with a D750 class sensor (a sensor that still gets the job done) when detailed work is demanded.

  • @medped74

    Currently, a used Z6 body and new Z5 body are both about USD 1000. For a casual photographer not interested in fast burst rates, or higher end video capabilities, it seems the main advantage will be BSI. The higher price of xqd cards for the Z6 vs much cheaper SD cards for the Z5 seems to be a major disadvantage, perhaps not worth the BSI, and in reality increase the price by about 100$ or so (more if you have more than one card). Any other advantages/disadvantages to consider between a used Z6 over a new Z5 as an entry into full-frame mirrorless? Any thoughts will be appreciated.

    The 1.7X crop is a real bummer...but what if you used the Z5 strictly as a 1080p camera? Is the quality serviceable? It was hard to tell from the small amount of 1080p footage. How does the HD footage compare to, say, a Sony a7 II, which is available for much less money?
    I think the Z5 could be a compelling choice for wedding photographers who dabble a little in video. It's a full-frame camera with dual SD card slots and IBIS. I don't think most couples are super picky about their wedding video being in 4K and showing every little blemish if the 1080p quality is decent.
    1080p is not dead.

    I am an aspiring photographer, using D7000 for last 8 years or so..so here is my take as I want to upgrade to entry level full frame camera, as I have budget constraints..and why I am going to buy Nikon Z5..
    1. 8 years of Nikon ecosystem in blood now. It's one of the finest..
    2. I am getting FTZ mount in a bundled deal in India, which is a great deal.
    3. I have Nikon FX and DX lens, FX will work with FTZ for sure, DX I might need to check, but yeah I need not invest in new lenses.
    4. I am a TH-camr but my most of the stuff gets sufficed with 1080 60, so for that this is a good enough camera.
    5. Budget, at this price point with the bundled deal that I am getting in India, this is a best possible value for money proposition.
    6. I am not into sports or wild life photography, for occasional sanctuary and sports event visit I guess 4.5 fps might suffice the purpose.
    7. And eager to get into the mirrorless world :)..!!

    As an update now 11 months later... have purchased one of these. About the only thing i Feel they maybe struggle with is wildlife (but only in some instances) and video. But beyond that, they are much the same as the Z6/Z6 II minus the technical differences (BSI sensor, faster burst rate on the Z6/Z6 II, and no video crop in some cases for the Z6/Z6 II). But for a stills shooter wanting a budget backup camera, or a beginner FF camera, this is a great option . Of course the sales have now ended and it's back up to $1300 USD, but even so, it's not a bad deal. If you need the burst rate, you can certainly go with the Z6 but you're losing the dual SD card slots (plus you likely might have to buy XQD memory cards, which are still a bit costly these days). I will say that I'm impressed with the Z5, even more so with the latest firmware updates which puts it closer to that of the Z6 (in terms of AF speed performance which was the Z5's biggest drawback at release).

      which part of Z5 is outdated? It is absolutely the best option for stills photographers which don't want to spend a fortune to get great image quality. It has highly modern features. Z5ii is not rumored this year, most probably we won't see one in the near future.

    I'm researching what I want my next camera system to be since it looks like Canon is pretty much done with the EOS M system I currently own. I thought I would stay with APS-C, but this camera is really tempting for the price point. I'm looking for something with a good standard zoom (which EOS M has always lacked), and the Z5 can now be had with the 24-70 f/4 for under $1900. The main thing I'm contending with is how much I care about size. Even APS-C with a fast standard zoom is fairly bulky, with the Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 being the one exception. Either way I'm going to be spending in the $2000 range minus whatever I get for my current system. Decisions, decisions...

    I tried a Z5 in the store, and given the price, it's a decent camera, but I still like having the top-deck plate on my Z6, plus a few other things. But the Z5 is a good option if you don't want to spend the extra $400 but you want dual card slots. It's probably a step up from the D750 but a step below the Z6 (mainly because of the lack of a BSI sensor in the Z5, and it's burst shooting rate is rather slow--slower than the D750 actually).

    Why has it suddenly become that you need XQD or CFe for higher framerate cameras? I had a Pentax K-3, also 24MP, that did 8fps and could do so for about 3 seconds, and that’s an old camera. Similar with the Nikon D7500, and that can shoot longer iirc. Unless manufacturers are cutting costs by reducing the amount of buffer memory, I don’t see it.

      @Lurreable 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know the price will eventually even out between those cameras, but right now the Z5 and A7C is closer to the Z6 and R than the RP.
      The Z5 and A7C will probably be really good value eventually, but for a good while yet they're nowhere near the RP.

    • @professionalpotato4764
      @professionalpotato4764 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you're a hybrid shooter, the A7C is probably the only option for you.
      Z5 is ok if you don't mind 1080p, for casual holiday shoots.
      RP is rank 3 in terms of stats. But it is a good value if you're a casual shooter.
      However, there is not a single lens option that will fit the budget of RP users. Unless you're going to spend $5,000 in lenses for a $1,000 body. So Sony still wins.
      Even a cheap a6400 is better than the RP in almost every aspect especially terms of the lens ecosystem.

    Nope. I used the Z5 for two weddings with the Z6 and the D780. After 1800 shots I can tell you the autofocus is not as snappy as the Z6 (yes I was using Z lenses). It doesn't gather light as quickly for autofocus in stills and AF-C. Shame as it was the perfect backup.

    • @Revan89
      @Revan89 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Revan89 Not sure what this person is going on about. Locks focus super fast, way faster in good light, but in low light it's still good. I have a Z5. It randomly overexposes. I switch it on, the EVF is almost white, I switch it off and back on, and then it exposes correctly. Nikon says that it has no fault. I’m also underwhelmed by the AF - it loses focus on a virtually static subject. And it can’t focus properly with a Samyang 85/f1.4 (unlike my D7500, which has no problem - strictly my 2nd D7500: the 1st being so defective it has to be replaced).
    I’ve owned 6 Nikon digital cameras and this is the third that’s had a fault - at least Nikon accepted the other two were faulty. Now they are in denial. Trouble is, when you’ve got a full set of Nikon lenses, you’re rather stuffed.
    It’s a shame, because it’s a nice size and weight, and the 14-30 and 24-200 are a good pair of landscape lenses.
    Perhaps it’s just typical of modern digital stuff - they rush it out and hope there aren’t too many bugs. No wonder driverless cars are an abject failure.
