    Yes, Alides Hidding's songs always bring back good memories and, as you remarked, Anneke brings it like an angel. Thank you Valerie!

    Anneke always has fun no matter which song she performs. The greatest hit of Alides still rocks after 35 years . Sadly we forget our old skool artists so fast styles are only appreciated by the youth of those times.

    I love how Anneke keeps this song as faithful to the original as possible while giving it her own special flair.
    Alides used to sing falsetto in the early days of "The Timebandits" and Anneke was hitting the same notes Alides used to hit in this song.
    Talking about The Timebandits, i got a feeling you would absolutely love their music, maybe you can find an album of theirs near your location. (never know!)
    Anyway, it's always a nice day when Anneke is part of it, so thank you very much for the reaction and for giving us a bit of Anneke to brighten our days :D

    I love your nomenclature, Anneke "Fairly", a 100% hit, I have never heard such an accurate assessment and summary of her way of singing, technique and timbre.
    Thanks Valerie.

    Speaking of dolly parton, Anneke also did Jolene often in her solo shows and play guitar during that performance, and she also always jokes arund, deliberately doesn't tune her guitar perfecly and says 'itll have to do' etc. There's also a video somewhere where she imitates Belle's 'Vamos Vamos' on Strange machines at BZ :) (Anneke van Giersbergen - Strange Machines (6 November 2021 - Eindhoven)) and Anneke Van Giersbergen - Jolene [Dolly Parton cover] [Live] - 10.20.2019 - The Masquerade - Atlanta for the jolene cover. Might not make good reactions video's since they are filmed with their telephones, but you will surely enjoy them to watch :D

    If you listen to a song by her old band “the gathering“, she does some high chest belting, but she makes it sound easy because she puts it in a head voice placement. I recently learned that that’s a thing you can do, lol. Kind of goes through the back end of through her crown.

    Metal Fairy Queen Anneke van Giersbergen always great, already three decades top of the bill.
    Thanks Valerie, again for your choice, the constructive comments to this 'country and little bit jazzy' song and the kind words.

    Lovely reaction Valerie! Smiley all over. :D
    This must have been the most poppy tune I have ever heard Anneke sing to, and she went all in. This song was Alides' greatest hit, a world hit record for his band 'Time Bandits' in fact, and he clearly appreciated Anneke's light and joyful approach.
    Anneke has definitely not always sang and performed this 'lightly' when performing gothic metal or heavier prog rock songs. But you're rightfully stating that good singers won't really belt in such settings. Even in the heaviest, doomiest tracks, Anneke mixed a lot, even though it would sound as if she belted. Here's a few examples of her heaviest 'belt' performances, from early TG concerts and one with VuuR:
    * 'Eleanor': th-cam.com/video/LGidpgUn1PM/w-d-xo.html (1995 gothic metal)
    * 'Rollercoaster': th-cam.com/video/eGSbKjv9HGI/w-d-xo.html (2000 prog rock)
    * 'The Colorado Incident': th-cam.com/video/2kUStnsF3HM/w-d-xo.html (2000 prog rock)
    * 'Days Go By - London': th-cam.com/video/hvIC1-TKfn4/w-d-xo.html (2017 prog metal)
    Dolly? Acoustic? Check this performance, playing with just her guitar and the audience, a gem:
    * 'Jolene': th-cam.com/video/FZVM-StA6YM/w-d-xo.html
    A fairy? Ye, in this setting, but a siren rather in a lot of TG tracks. Most reviewers in fact referred to her singing on their The Gathering albums as 'haunting'. Check these performances:
    * 'Sand and Mercury': th-cam.com/video/QFGMroyKUKY/w-d-xo.html (1995 gothic metal)
    * 'Jelena': th-cam.com/video/fkriZ-NWEFs/w-d-xo.html (2005 trip rock / album version)
    This may be considered 'fairy' though, and definitely 'jazzy' as well:
    * 'Sleepy Buildings': th-cam.com/video/-zZ_X-D57YA/w-d-xo.html (2004 trip rock / live acoustic recording with custom video)
    Do note that she started with a jazz duo 'Bad Breath' before she joined TG.
    Now before you check out the above examples, I feel it's really about time you'd react to one of her best own songs performed with The Gathering. You've already seen her perform 'On Most Surfaces' with VuuR, which was quite exemplary for TG, but these two are the absolute must see performances every vocal coach / reactor ought to check imo:
    * 'Travel': th-cam.com/video/Y46Lft_BZxo/w-d-xo.html (1998 prog metal/rock)
    * 'Waking Hour': th-cam.com/video/pUKBV8M_XXE/w-d-xo.html (2006 trip rock)
    I suspect all videos linked here may be interesting for your students, given what you discussed in your reaction video.
    And, uhm, here's a bonus tip for you to do a first reaction video on, with both Anneke and Devin, performing an epic DTP track:
    * 'Pixillate': th-cam.com/video/KeAmR53mO6M/w-d-xo.html

    Hi Valerie! Thnx for another great reaction on Beste Zangers. I still think this season was the best ever. Please don't forget to react to Anneke & Roel singing " Hou van mij" and Roel singing "Granada". You will like it! And I'm glad you're telling your students that they must watch the show; that's a big compliment. They will learn a lot from it.
    BTW: it was nice to hear you singing. Too bad it's not possible that you participate in BZ 2022. 😀

    Anneke is so incredible and it's so cool to hear her in a style so different from what I know about her metal background! So versatile.
    You're so right about her bright tone, and it's one thing I love about Dutch symphonic metal as a genre-the prevalence of these female singers who sing so clear and bright and create such a magical siren-like sound cutting through the heavy music. Actually, an amazing example of that is another artist I would absolutely LOVE for you to check out: Sharon den Adel of Within Temptation. She and Anneke actually did a duet of her song Somewhere that's just...ethereal and perfect in every way. Their tones compliment each other SO well. And Sharon is self-taught so it's really interesting to analyze her techniques and sound compared to Anneke's classical training.

    Hi Valerie Anneke killed another song. How are u doing. I Love it when Anneke 😃 smiles. Valerie you should react to some of Floor's solo stuff from her crowd funding concert. Face your Demons, Everdream, Winner, Mama. Marko has 2 videos out. I found a new male singer and he's Tommy from Sabaton. FYI Tom from Evergrey has a side project called Silent Skies. It just him and a piano and their 2nd album came out on the 4th.

    Another great reaction Valerie. You sure are a busy Lady, but just a reminder to react to Amira singing When You Wish Upon a Star. I think this song is a lot harder to sing than a lot of people think & I’d really appreciate your opinion. I think this performance is near perfect.
    Cheers, Graeme

    When talking about lighter voices in jazz I can recommend this song a duet from the great Dutch singers Rita Reys and Mathilde Santing th-cam.com/video/PC5frzlkklM/w-d-xo.html Unfortunately no video, only the music to listen to. Naughty, funny and so beautifully sung
