I was just telling my friend @ThinkBluePoker about how I was getting my BB abused in tournaments and this episode has already changed my game completely. I have been incredibly successful getting my 7.5BB 3-bets in with a wide range of hands and really printing. Great work on this series and looking forward to more!

Folding a superior hand is obviously important, but setting up future traps is arguably the best part of 3 betting. Ideally, a villain will "take a stand" vs. heroes AA pre flop, or nuts on the flop, based on heroes prior 3-betting exploits. Conversely, heroes can "take a stand" vs. habitual 3-betting villains by check-raising with hands like middle-pair + backdoor on a garbage flop.

I have a question regarding the BB defense when the effective stack is shallow. The video states that we should defend tighter when shallow, but shouldn't that be the opposite? When we are in the BB with a shallow stack, we are not overly concerned with reverse implied odds. Hands like QTo, KJo,A8o is happy to defend and see a flop, because if we hit top pair we can commit the rest of our stack to the pot due to the low SPR and hope to double up. Also suited hands should be folded at that point due to the low implied odds, but the video seems to imply that we still like suited connectors at a shallow stack. Could you clarify? Very intuitive podcast and it made me become a member of the lab. Great material on the site as well. Thanks.

"Tighter" doesn't tell the full story. You do realize equity better when short, but you also have worst implied odds with hands like 53s. And as you said, your reverse implied odds with hands like QTo is lower.
I'd sum it up by saying that you defend a roughly similar frequency when shorter, but your hand selection preferences should become weighted more towards high cards and less towards speculative hands like suited gappers.
Tough to get more specific than that because the exact range and frequency really depends on exactly how short stacked we are talking and what the raise size is.
I just looked up some no ante heads-up sims, one for 19bb and one for 50bb, andthe solver does play a bit tighter in general vs raise when shorter, so "tighter" is correct. But it's pretty close. It plays all of the suited hands (vs min-raise) at both stack depths. But it starts to cut out the worst offsuit hands at 19bb compared to 50bb. Looks like roughly 5 total hands (~50 combos) are removed from the calling range.

What about pocket pairs(22-99) in the bb? What are we doing vs ep/mp/ lp raises?

How about bb defense vs an iso raise ?

I understand 3betting preflop... but when you miss the flop and they've called preflop im bleeding too much money. Are we purely looking for a fold preflop and giving up unless we get those miracle flops?

Gary, use some of that Upswing money and buy a condenser mic. Your audio is painful to listen to. Since that is the most important medium of which you convey information, it is worth a proper investment. You could dramatically improve you audio fidelity for less than $50

Honestly, he would be better off with a gaming headset. Or, with a super-cardioid (tight pattern) configuration such as many dynamic mics like the SM7 (podcasters use that one the most) or even just a cheap SM beta58a (the latter worked great for Kurt Cobaine! Lol).
If he ends up getting a standard condenser mic (typically cardioid being the tightest configuration of condensers), he would still have that extremely washy/reverberating room sound which is the biggest thing that makes it difficult to understand what he is saying (aside from the accent and the crappy mic of course).
It's either that or he gets a Condenser Mic and goes with acoustic-treatment (of his room or otherwise), which would be overkill imo. Gaming Headset (cheapest and very effective for the $) or super-cardioid Dynamic mic + audio interface (sub $200) would be his best bet imo. I think they make some super-cardioid dynamic mics with built in digital interfaces too so that could be an option as well.
Good audio, like good poker, gets extremely complicated quick lol.

This is great information but calling 2.5 BB "small" and 3.5 BB "big" is simply not realistic for most live low-stakes games. For example in the $1/$2 at the lodge, $15 is the most common size to open. $20 is not particularly uncommon. You also see opens in the $5-$10 range but that's probably less than 1/4 of the time. Other $1/$2 games I've played are similar. People opening to less than $10 happens but it's not the norm. $12-$20 is far more common.
It would be great to see some content that focused on specifics on how to adjust to situations that actually come up in real life in these small stakes live games, rather than just how to play against what is "theoretically correct".

Against a huge raise, you'll want to play substantially tighter than the ranges presented here, but a larger portion of your continue range will be as a 3bet rather than a call. This range tightening is only partially mitigated by the fact that your opponents will play too wide at live 1/2.

Would you still flat with non dominated hands like 53s, 54s from a tight utg opener at 1/2nl who opens to $10-15?@@synchronium24

Live is a completely different animal and so far away from GTO that you are better off listening to less GTO based advice and much more specific live exploitation for that
