The solo by Gordon Huntley is my favorite pedal steel solo ever. Honestly, sometimes I'll be driving or doing something random and that solo will just come floating to mind.
Just found out my twin brother played this song when traveling home...Highway 60 to Prescott and Mom and Dad's place. Now their 65 years there is in final escrow...tears of memories big time !!
Back in the 70s when this was on airplay my gf and I went out to the mall. This was on the radio. We just had to sit in the car and let it play out. It's just one of those kind of songs. I still think of her when I hear this and that day. She was a sister to me in every sense of the word. ❤
Oh my My favorite country song my favorite Album of all time TWC thanks so much Dee Muray Nigel Olsen and the masterpiece maker Bernie Taupin piano finnest Elton J
What a great song. Bernie is a master poet/songwriter. My favorite song of all time is Your Song. Also beautiful is Friends, from the movie by the same name, with music by Elton.
Old rod Stewart sure love the hell out of this song he covered it put it on one of his albums and has been known to do it live too it's one of his favorite reg cuts
A song writing musical phenomenon is how I would describe Elton and his partnership with Bernie Taupin. This one from his third album sure as hell demonstrates him in his stride. If you try to remember all the Elton John songs you love you won't be able to, I know I can't. I do remember the first one though, Your Song. Probably got the 45 somewhere if I could find it in all my junk. I remember some people shunning him when it was rumored he liked both girls and boys around the mid 70's. I didn't care one way or the other and those that did soon got over it because the music was just too good.
Always loved this album & this song.... I hope you don't mind me using "your platform" to use this song as a dedication to a friend of mine, who was found brutally murdered, on Monday, 8th September, 2014. RIP Kerridge, here's your song.... I learned last night that one of our friends from the 60s & beyond, who had retired to Richard's Bay to find his "Country Comfort" & live his last years in joy & peace, had his life taken. During my sleeping hours, filled with restlessness at such a horrible way for a life to end, these words came to me as a homage not only to Kerridge, but to those who may also have lost their lives due to the callousness of mankind. May he find Peace & Comfort..... KERRIDGE. IT WAS ON A MONDAY MORNING, ON A SPRING SEPTEMBER DAY. THEY FOUND YOU LYING IN A DITCH, NEAR A LAKE IN RICHARD’S BAY. CHORUS OOOH KERRIDGE, OOOH KERRIDGE, IN INNOCENCE YOU DROVE DOWN TO THE LAKE, AND IT’S THERE THEY DID YOU IN. YOU SAID TO ME WAY BACK, YOU’D LIKE TO BE REMEMBERED IN A SONG. BUT LITTLE DID WE KNOW BACK THEN, IT WOULD BE FOR SOMETHING THAT WENT SO WRONG. THERE'S TOO MUCH GOING ON THESE DAYS, THAT JUST SHOULD NEVER BE. AND WHEN A LIFE IS WORTH A PITTANCE, IT JUST MAKES NO SENSE TO ME. HOW STRANGE THIS WORLD WE LIVE IN, IT’S NO LONGER SAFE TO ROAM. WHERE A LIFE MEANS NEXT TO NOTHING, AND ONE’S CAR STOLEN MERELY FOR A RIDE HOME. John Knottenbelt (13th September, 2014) Dedicated to Kerridge Singleton, a Life taken too soon.
Bless you for doing this in the memory of your friend Kerridge Singleton. Altho i didnt know him , after reading this and looking up what happened to him, i absolutely feel horrible about what happened to him and i totally am touched by your story. I am so sorry for your loss. RIP Kerridge Singleton. :(
I also remember his cover of A LITTLE BIT OF SOAP from one of his solo albums in the 70s. He had a pretty good voice actually. I dont know if its as good now. Well Eltons isnt the same anymore either but hes still awesome.
Well, he was back in the Elton John Band from 1975-76 (Rock of the Westies & Blue Moves); then he has been a very active musician in California, especially in church music.
I love both versions and I'm a long-time Rod fan but I have to disagree. Elton's original version is unmatchable. This is one of those instances when the original will always be better than any cover.
I'm 49 and love Elton, yet I just heard this song for the first time two days ago and I'm in love ❤
undoubtably the best elton john album ever ... just fabulous and timeless !!!
A truly fine album...☮️
yep. His voice and songwriting ability were at their peak on this song. Nothing after was as good.
100% Agreed
The solo by Gordon Huntley is my favorite pedal steel solo ever. Honestly, sometimes I'll be driving or doing something random and that solo will just come floating to mind.
It's beautiful, isn't it!
45 years ago this song got to me. . Im 62 and it still does.
Same here
I'm in my 70's now, and am also enjoying this masterpiece. The Album Tumbleweed Connection is and always will be my favorite Elton John Album.
I'm 62 too, just posted it on my Facebook page to share with friends. I love the brilliance of Bernie Taupin's lyrics with Elton John's magic.
What a shame...the people who have never heard this song or Tumbleweed Connection.
50 years passed
A good time to be alive...☮️😷
This has got to be the greatest country western song ever.
Just found out my twin brother played this song when traveling home...Highway 60 to Prescott and Mom and Dad's place. Now their 65 years there is in final escrow...tears of memories big time !!
I bought this album in 1970 not having a clue who Elton John was. I was very happily suprised on the great score I had gotten. This is a great album!
One of my favorite Elton songs.

Tumbleweed Connection is authentic, emerging art of two budding masters Bernie and Elton...not to mention great musicians/singers as accompanists!!!!
Yes it would be the Rembrant of art. I used to be able to memorize every word to every song .
"It's that old fashioned feeling fully grown"
Amazing how two British guys created the best good old American Country Music Song ever. How does this happen?
Love of music is universal.
Thank the lyrical writing of Bernie Taupin. He was a poet foremost as opposed to being a songwriter.
Love all of Elton’s old songs. I’m 54 now.
I love all of Elton's music, old and current and I've got about a decade on you.
One of my favorite songs, best albums of all time! Elton/ band was Top Five best concerts of all time, too.
Absolutey ROCKS! Wow... just wow. Absolutle timeless. Real music. OMG Fantastic
Oh my My favorite country song my favorite Album of all time TWC thanks so much Dee Muray Nigel Olsen and the masterpiece maker Bernie Taupin piano finnest Elton J
This was the album that had the big Leon Russell influence! You can hear it!😊
One of the greatest bands... one of the best songs Ever! LOVE this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of my fav Elton hits! I consider it a huge hit! Love it!
What a great song. Bernie is a master poet/songwriter. My favorite song of all time is Your Song. Also beautiful is Friends, from the movie by the same name, with music by Elton.
Awesome talent! None like it today.
I agree
Sir Elton John certainly is..☮️
Best rock n roll musician ever!
Reminds me of my childhood when I thought being a farmer was a romantic occupation.
Old rod Stewart sure love the hell out of this song he covered it put it on one of his albums and has been known to do it live too it's one of his favorite reg cuts
Love/Loved every genre of music he has ever played💞🥃

damn I thought I had junk in my hoarder apartment but hell if you can find the 45 then maybe you should apply for that hoarder show.
It's all relative country is country no matter what where you are!!
Timeless
Gordon Huntley (Mathew's Southern Comfort) on Pedal Steel.
I Love older albums

Herbie Flowers bass - incredible
E John is the best...
thx Ron
UR welcome
John's band sure could sing. Too bad we didn't get more leads from them. All I remember is Olsson's "Dancing Shoes".
I also remember his cover of A LITTLE BIT OF SOAP from one of his solo albums in the 70s. He had a pretty good voice actually. I dont know if its as good now. Well Eltons isnt the same anymore either but hes still awesome.
..and the rocking chair is creaking on the porch..
Terrific Stuff !. Shame To See The Great Gordon Huntley, On Steel Guitar, “Air Brushed”, From The Credits. He Deserves A Mention.
He is in the credits in the description.
Wow how old am I now? 😂
The song meaning is of a simplier time
Caleb was pretty cool . Wonder what ever happened with him ? What he went to after this .
Well, he was back in the Elton John Band from 1975-76 (Rock of the Westies & Blue Moves); then he has been a very active musician in California, especially in church music.
Johnny's surname was actually spelled "Van _Derrick_." The liner notes spell his last name incorrectly.
Juice Newton did an excellent cover of this song 2
Pines falling, goose flying accross the sticks and hedgehog between the bricks. Please explain the true meaning if you know. Thanks.
Just describing country life, or at least country life in Bernie Taupin's imagination.
Maija: To me, the lyrics explain what nature sounds like in lieu of city sounds, i.e. Buses, taxi cabs, car horns, etc.
Bernie was describing the type of life he wanted. The country life. He now has a 30 acre ranch in California, with horses etc.
As much as I love Elton I like rods version better 😶
Just listened to Rod's version and Elton's version is soo much better, better produced and a more lively backing band.
Good Lord I sure love both versions!!!!
I love both versions and I'm a long-time Rod fan but I have to disagree. Elton's original version is unmatchable. This is one of those instances when the original will always be better than any cover.
Country-pop singer, Keith Urban also brought it out a few years ago. He did pretty good but I still like the original best.
more country than the sam hunt and elton john waswnt even country lol
Dry mush astrigent wash left n2
Rod's version has so much more soul and feel and he can really sing. Just saying...
They are both great singers and I love both of their versions. No need to compare apples to oranges!
