Yeah, the problem with this assault rifle is that it was expensive to mantain due to it's complex internal mechanism. Cool weapon but a shame in the end.
Yeah but the Russians still fielded them, granted due to costs only specialised troops would of been issued 94s no point giving a grunt a gun he can’t field strip in under a minute. Specialist units aren’t necessarily going to have that problem in the field
AN-94 should be compared to G11. Both turned out to be not viable as a service weapon, but AN is much closer to reality. Also being chambered in regular 5.45 makes it actually shootable. There are few in Russia and one in Garand Thumb channel :)
@@T1Oracle i'm talking about S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games, there ain't toothbrush or lubricant there. and besides, like the man the myth the legend the AK Guy Brandon Herrera said, "Lube is for people who can't get bitches wet in the first place... Or if you are an AR guy, your boyfriend!"
Bro, that canted mag gave it away instantly for me That is the AN-94, designed by a Russian engineer named Geddinay Nikonov (had to look up the first name, but I knew his last name was Nikonov). In essence, the AN-94 is a prototype rifle designed to be an improvement on the AK-74, which itself is an AK-47 variant chambered in a new round, 5.45x39 instead of the 47’s 7.62x39. What Nikonov’s design does differently is a feature called “hyperburst.” Essentially, when you fire the gun with the hyperburst mode engaged, or even for the first two shots in full-auto, it fires two rounds off at a ridiculously-high fire rate of about 1800 rounds per minute. After that hyperburst, the gun fires at around 600 rpm in full-auto. (For context, an MG-42, which was one of the fastest-firing single-barreled guns of WW2, fired about 1200 rpm.) How it does that is really technical and very complicated, involving a bunch of moving parts, pulleys, a separate mechanism that would store the second hyperburst round in a more accessible spot than in the mag, and a bunch more. The reson for the canted/offset mag was to make room for all that Russian space wizardry. The purpose of this was to double the amount of stopping power per trigger pull by sending two rounds downrange, but the reason for having it so fast was so that the second round would fire before the first round’s recoil impulse reached the shooter and threw off their point of aim, allowing for both to hit the target in a very tight grouping. I know it was never fully adopted due to the ridiculous complexity of the thing. It just wasn’t practical to have such a compicated weapon as a service rifle, beacuse more complexity creates more points of failure. I don’t think it even left the prototype stages. However, its iconic design and function is immortalized in games such as Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. I actually have fond memories of playing custom matches with some friends in CoD MW2019, making the craziest loadouts and most heinously-cursed guns we could think of (Sorry not sorry, Brandon Herrera). The AN-94 was one of the guns I gravitated towards.
The AN-94 (Russian: 5,45-мм автомат Никонова обр. 1987 г. / АН-94 «Абака́н», GRAU designation 6P33) is a Russian assault rifle. The initials stand for Avtomat Nikonova model of 1994, after its chief designer Gennadiy Nikonov, who previously worked on the Nikonov machine gun.
The AN 94 is a marvel of itself. A pulley recoil assembly is practically unheard and the fact it performs so well is incredible. The fact that two cartridges are fired before the bolt even reaches its complete stopping point and it feels like a single shot is insane. I pray one day Ill get to work on one these in my shop.
this same guy also made a prototype for another gun that didnt use a bolt. it was apparently able to fire at 3000rpm, but they didnt make more than just some prototypes. i cant find much on it, and the AN keeps popping up when i look up nikonov machine gun
