If I remember correctly the directors got the singer of Nine Days to re-record the song for different timelines. They got in contact with him after they decided to use the lyrics in the script in 17:17
I only recently got around to watching this. I really didn't trust all the hype. But when I finally did, I was blown away. I mean crying over rocks??? Genius. And I was compelled to have an everything bagel with cream cheese after watching it. But not hot dogs.
