It's a specific tech called Gazelle Punch. I don't know the exact mechanics, but by dropping off of ledge, jumping I think, and then KO punching very precisely, it lets the punch count as grounded right off ledge. It's an extremely punishing matchup check, the kind you feel in your gut if it hits you.

That is a technique called Gazelle Punch. It consists of doing the K.O. Punch in the air so that in the middle of the animation Mac touches the ground at the same time that he hits the opponent so that it counts as if you did it on the ground, to be more exact it is used more than anything when you are on the edge off the stage, you let go, you jump into the air and do the KO. Punch just when Mac is level with the edge. It's complicated to do, because if I remember correctly you have about 9 frames to react, but over time you won't have a problem. Just ask Peanut. However, there are videos that explain it better.
