    The original 1990 shirt did have a navy button loop. Mine has the navy loop along with all the other authenticity traits. The rounded v-neck and collar size labels are generally the best way to spot the fakes.

    Morally I completely agree with on buying the knock off shirts Normally, but I decided to get one on ebay to check the quality myself. I had an official re-release of the 1990 shirt from 2006 which was decent, but thought ill check how the "new fakes" were. These ebay knock offs are normally made by the same people as any "approved" re-release anyway. Or they take the materials and make them at home to sell on ebay. Plus even the real umbro shirts back from 1990 didn't have much quality to them either, they were very basic compared to the shirts recently. I've paid £25 on ebay for a 3rd kit in blue. My only hope is that it fits ok and has the umbro embroidered on chest so it looks more legit 😉.
    Thanks for the review, its helped me relax a bit more seeing this.

    The button loop is actually navy in the real shirts of 1990 if you look at the players in hi-res. So the fake shirt is more accurate! ;)

    • @YorkshireTraveller
      @YorkshireTraveller  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It isn’t if you have them side by side. The fake shirts are copies of the official Umbro reissues not the originals of 1990 which are very difficult to find in good condition. The blue loop is flimsy in comparison on the fakes and the button is very cheap. The overall quality of the fake shirts is sub par compared to the official Umbro reissues of 2010 and 2012 and the fit is terrible. You’d be better offer with a score draw than a fake.

    I've got about 5 different remakes and love them. I couldn't afford to purchase real ones of the shirts I wanted so opted for the remakes.

    • @YorkshireTraveller
      @YorkshireTraveller  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends who they are remade by. Score Draw, whilst not my cup of tea, make good durable shirts. These super tight Chinese and Thai copies that are flooding the market though won’t last more than a couple of washes.

      @YorkshireTraveller  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tailored by Umbro we’re the 2010 reissues. The ones without are the 2012 ones. There is an earlier reissue of the 1986 shirt though that doesn’t say tailored by Umbro.

    Original button hole was Navy not striped. Quick Google shows this clearly.

      It’s not printed it’s embroidered.

    • @YorkshireTraveller
      @YorkshireTraveller  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That was true on the ones from 1990 but the ones sold now are not 30 year old originals. They are sold as though they are official Umbro reissues even with copies of the reissues tags but there haven’t been any official Umbro reissues for nearly a decade and they didn’t feature a blue button hole so any with a blue hole now is either an original (highly unlikely) or a cheap fake.

    Much obliged for this video. It has just confirmed the shirt I spent a pretty penny on is genuine. That is unquestionably the best fake Ive seen. I have a 1990 third shirt that is terrible in comparison.

      Hi. There haven’t been any official Umbro reissues since 2012 so be careful with what you find as it’s likely those being sold now are just cheap Chinese/Thai fakes.
      Score draw ones are better made despite the lack of Umbro detailing.

    • @YorkshireTraveller
      @YorkshireTraveller  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. The original ones from back in the early 90s didn’t have an R symbol and had white labels. It could be that they are three decade old originals or it could be the fakers just copied the originals. All the official Umbro reisssues from 2010 & 2012 had blue labels.

  • @julioorvas770

    I just ordered the 1990 white and red shirts online. I was aware that if Umbro does not have the contract with the English FA, the shirts would be fake. I'm not a fan of fake football shirts, but in this case I though it may be the only way to get that nice 1990 English shirts. After the shirts arrived, I look for flaws and I only found that the Umbro logo is poorly stitched. And that's all. Looking for pictures online from the original 1990 and the 2010 re-issues, I noticed that this fake shirts are actually based on the original 1990 jerseys and not in the 2010 Umbro re-issues. I don't understand why Umbro re-issues were not exact replicas of the 1990 jerseys. The strip for the button in the original 1990 shirt is blue and not white/blue as are in the 2010 reissues. In the case of the red shirt, the Umbro logo is white on the original 1990 shirt and navy blue in the 2010 re-issues. The 1990 shirt lasted until 1993. In the later editions there were some variants, as the Umbro logo in capital letters instead of lower case letters on the original 1990 edition.
    As I said, I'm not a fan of fake shirts, but I actually like more this Chinese shirts than the Score Draw editions, that does not have the Umbro logo and the proper pattern on strip in the sleeves.

    • @YorkshireTraveller
      @YorkshireTraveller  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see what you’re saying but the Chinese shirts are made in sweat shops in the cheapest manner possible (proper ones are made in sweatshops too but with some degrees or quality control). The biggest issue is the material and the fit. The guys are small to save on fabric costs and the materials don’t last more than a handful of washes.

    • @julioorvas770
      @julioorvas770 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@YorkshireTraveller This ones seems to have better quality than I was expecting. The only visible flaw is the Umbro logo. But comparing the quality of this shirts to original Umbro shirts from the 90s, there seems to be no difference (I don't own the original England jersey from 1990, but others like Mexico 93-94 and Brazil 92). Fabrics from the 90s from brands like Adidas and Umbro would be considered "cheap material" today. This actually may be the reason for the changes in the 2000's reissues...

    Any advice on how to get these i dunno how to tell from an ebay listing if its fake, im after the third shirt

    • @YorkshireTraveller
      @YorkshireTraveller  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching. It is very difficult to tell the difference from eBay pictures alone. Because there hasn’t been an official Umbro reissue in almost a decade (except for the New Order version) there’s very genuine ones around.
      You can sometimes find original ones from the 1990s second hand but sellers often want upwards for £250 for them. The reissues sell for in the region of £100 to £150, while the fakes can be anything from £20 to some cheeky buggers asking for genuine reissue prices because they think people can’t tell the difference.
      I’d ask any eBay sellers to send you photos of the inside labels. Official ones have serial numbers that you can Google to check.
