My favourite Canadian slang story: My work group went to a Blue Jays game and we were in the front row of the 200s. One of our colleagues was continuously berating the other team's left fielder (not sure who, it was White Sox in 2012). A few weeks later, some of us went to Philadelphia also for work and we were telling some of our US-based colleagues about how our one colleague was endlessly chirping the left fielder. Our US friends had NO IDEA what we meant by chirp; they thought he was making bird noises, because blue jays are birds and birds chirp. We had to explain that chirping meant trash-talking usually in the context of sports.
I'm struggling to believe a large percentage of the Blue Jays team haven't ever even acquired, let alone spent a Loonie or Toonie. These are entertaining regardless. Also, get poor Gausman a Nanaimo bar, the man loves sweets for crying out loud!
@@TheSmithhhz As someone who despises cash, I get your point. I still think it comes up a lot in Canada, it's like enshrined into our lingo to talk about it somewhere. I still gotta think by talking about all the times they come to Canada and talk about the "great food" and places to go, they would have had to spend some money somewhere and come across the lingo. I guess I was expecting like one or two of them to not know, but for like 80% of them in the vid to think they're cartoons (which is a great answer btw) was a bit surprising to me.
You're obviously not the b'y who built the boat, let alone the b'y who sails her, and wouldn't know how to hip your partner Sally Brown, and Sally Thibault has her hands on her own hips shaking her head at you, lol.
There's actually three of them. There's the b'y that builds the boat, there's the b'y that sails her, and there's the b'y that catches the fish and brings 'em home to Liza.
Of course Romano gets all of them. A good solid Canadian boy.
He was the fact check
Yes, but you have to admit... Vlady got it.. just by saying it: ? "Giver!... Give'err..." 🤣
Let’s go Canada
Yes b'y
Vladdys was the funniest reaction hahaha. “Give’r? *Extends hand* Giver. 🗿”
the expression of pure befuddlement on his face when he was reading the card lmao
They's our b'ys! Now Give'r!
me ol trout

That’s a Canadian thing?! I thought it was universal
That's actually hilarious
I’m from the US and I didn’t hear this term before watching Letterkenny, so this makes sense to me.
It's a Canadian hockey thing, I don't think it has to do with the Jay's. I remember us using it in high school in mid 2000s
Well, we know who aren't buying loonie hot dogs at the ball park!

GET GAUSMAN A NANAIMO BAR
I mean, when was the last time you used "loonie" or "toonie" in a conversation? Or even used one to buy something. I rarely carry any change.
@@WhiskyOctoberThey have Loonie dog night every Tuesday. None of them have ever been curious what that meant?
@@TheSmithhhzlol I didn't even think of that, good point

I appreciate Cimber's love of Nanaimo bars. Now ask him to find Nanaimo on the map.
Kevin Gausman wasn't that far off when he guessed that there was a place linked with the Nanaimo bar. It's named after a town in B.C.
I live an hour away from naniamo
Someone needs to tell Gaus about Nanaimo bars, he’d love them.
I'm dieing at them trying to say Nanaimo 😂😂
Nanaimo bar. What you don't want to eat if you're a type 1 diabetic. So good.
The pronunciation of Nanaimo had me 😂
Bichette has been a Blue Jay since 2019 and he doesn't know what Loonies and Toonies are yet?!? How is that possible?
I was thinking the same thing, do these guys not LIVE in Toronto? 😭
they're rich lmaoooo
I'm a 45 year old born Canadian and I didn't know the b'ys one. Sorrey.
Yikes lol never been to the far east coast eh b’y
To be fair it's a Newfie term, so it's okay if you don't know it.
You're obviously not the b'y who built the boat, let alone the b'y who sails her, and wouldn't know how to hip your partner Sally Brown, and Sally Thibault has her hands on her own hips shaking her head at you, lol.
This was fun, but also kind of painful to watch-except for Romano of course!
Lived in Canada pretty much my entire life, never seen "B'y" before lol
gosh i dont even think im canadian anymore
Well look at the 50 year old man child who’s prime minister. Guys a bully and an asshole. No care in the world for anyone but himself so sad
Me either
Give'r is NOT something we say often in Toronto
Agree. I have never heard of b’y before!
@@rebecg8899 i mean the video did say its a newfie term
I hope they all got Nanaimo Bars after that. Do Americans not say give'r? WTF. How do they get anything done if they don't give'r? 😂
Fuck if I know.
We’re more likely to say “give it a shot/chance”
I think get'r'done may be comparable for US
2nd love watching you guys I'm getting ready to watch you at 7
Love you Romano! 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
I love a nana-yee mo bar
I was today years old when i realized "give'r" isnt a commonly used word outside Canads in the english speaking world
You can tell Romano's a Canadian lad, he gets it. Atta boy
That was so funny i loved that
This is awesome happy canada day
Just friggin giver by
I’m Canadian and still don’t know how to pronounce Nanaimo bar
Nuh-nye-mow
@@Melmelbaton thank you
Vladdy was on the right track with giv'r. 😂😂
Kevin Gausman thought Nanaimo Bars was a place
Ok who let Jordan be here he's FROM Toronto!
If Romano didn’t get these we might have had to ship him off to NY lol

How did I not know Romano was Canadian? 🇨🇦
One of the terms should be bagged milk 🤣
Bruh I’m Canadian and I didn’t know half the shit 🤣
Let’s go blue jays
B'y means buddy, just shortened for slang purposes
Come on by"s .....Give"r
By'r isnt something ive heard in Ontario.
Romano not knowing what animal is on a toonie.....
Can we just win some games against division rivals, please?
baseball
dont these players go out and spend money?
Jansen=🐐
I've never heard give'r ever in my 2.5 decades of being a Canadian.
I know what 'twonies' are, but what are toonies?
I like the blue jays a lot less after this segment.
No one says b’y
Wack terms. Should have went with Timbit and touque
Lets win tomorrow on Canada Day eh?
That was fucking horrible give’r was a give me serious if can’t figure out what give’r means I don’t even know what to say
