The most fascinating thing I find about the story of joy boy and the devils fruits attraction is that history is repeating itself. Luffy is no doubt joyboy reincarnate. All the devil fruits such Mr 2s fruit has helped him even thought this fruit belonged to that hag who helped orochi get into power. Momos mums devil fruit may have belonged to someone who knew joy boy and he/she may have told him of someone to come who will be able to bring peace to the world. Posideon and joy boy knew each other and again history repeats itself. So just a few instances of some devil fruits who have been intertwined with fate will definitely happen

While that's indeed obviously a fascinating part of the story which is definitely true I think, it also does take away some of the agency, contingency and free choice of Luffy since it was meant to happen anyway. The story is still epic of course, but it makes it also deterministic and leaves less space for contingency and uncertainty. That's however my reflection as a history student haha, that aside I'm still a huge fan of the series! Just a reflection I made.

I have a theory that Nika IS the Model: Nika fruit. Just the naming scheme makes it seem like fruits of this type were manufactured. "Model: etc..." Perhaps the Ancient Kingdom were the sole manufacturers of devil fruits and that's what caused the other kingdoms to rebell. Before I say the next part of my theory, I have to preface with another theory (oops lol, makes it a bit less believable basing a theory on another theory but it holds weight!), Nika is the SUN god, the gorrosei are named after planets. Many believe it to be referencing the Roman Pantheon, the mythological gods named after planetary bodies. But something to think about is our Solar System's planets revolve around the sun. I think it was an incredibly clever sleight of hand by Oda to misdirect our thinking. We know that Devil Fruits reincarnate themselves. Is it a stretch to say the Gorrosei's fruits were the "royal guard" of sorts and Nika was the "leader" of the ancient kingdom. The previous owners, or very plausibly, the CURRENT owners sought to take power and conspired against Nika to seize power. The way the Gorrosei talk about the Nika fruit makes it seem truly God-like in power. A very Oda thing to do would be to symbolize the downfall of humanity at our own hands. We kill our gods for power only to realize the true power of a God. The power of Joy. The power to spread infectious joy and unite humanity under one flag. THATS what scares the World Government. Unity.

I agree with every single one of these except the last one a bit. For one thing while it could be possible he was a giant, it could also be possible that because Joy Boy is "potentially" the God Nika, he could change his size ideally. Given that God's are powerful beings and such. And considering that if Joy Boy wasn't the god Nika (theoretically), humans can live about a century, there's no telling that this guy wasn't fighting in his old age if he was human. This actually makes sense since the nika fruit is said to turn the users body to rubber & when Luffy uses gear 3 specific body parts grow insanely big. Maybe Joy Boy had full control of the fruit & was able to turn into a giant

Another possible acquaintance of Joyboy could have been the massive individual known as Oars. Oars was known as the island puller who stole entire islands, we know that Wano is actually a composite island. Onigashima the skull island off that floated inside the lake between the Wanokuni peak and the walls looks like the Oars from Thriller Bark, and Moria might have been mistaken about the body he found being the real Oars.
We didn't know if Joy Boy was the true owner of the One Piece. In fact, the most probable thinking is that One Piece is something Roger leave there just to motivate the people (and the chosen one aka Luffy (he knows that because of the Sea Kings prophecy)) to try to reach there and discover everything. That last giant theory may be something because while we are heading to Egghead currently, we still have yet to go to Elbaph, and Nami can’t make a world map if she doesn’t go to every island. So after Egghead, there me be some correlations to the old joyboy found in Elbaph, plus Big Mom was exiled, so after being part of the team that defeated her and Ussop saving the two giants in Enies Lobby, they may be welcomed into Elbaph

I think people are taking the "Luffy is Joy Boy" a bit too litterally. He indeed has the same devil fruit as Joy Boy, but most importantly he shares the same behavior and worldview as Joy Boy. They are both absolutely free and kind (unlike Black beard, who is similarly free but utterly ruthless). And concerning the devil fruit model nika (egghead spoilers) : Vegapunk basically said that devil fruit are incarnation of the desire of humans. So the religion of the sun god Nika probably existed before the devil fruit, and because many people probably wished for him to be real, the fruit materialized. I don't think it means that Nika somehow incarnates through Luffy when he uses gear 5.
The last one is quite wrong. Someone has made a scale chart comparing the huge straw hat to giants, and it can easily be said that it'd cover the tip of their pinky. At best, Joy Boy was a large human like Big Mom. Also, some humans have been shown to live very long (like Dr Kurera), so he wouldn't have needed to be a giant to live up to 100 years old
probably the skull at onigashima was his skull, which would be that big if for instance he was an giant oni like kaido possibly being the same size as him, then gigantified himself, and as a giant giant, died in a fight while in gear 5. As a result his body didn't shrink back down but stayed as large as it was, and he was then later buried at onigashima. This would then make sense that the place where Luffy awoke gear 5 was the same place joy boy was buried.

Joyboy was possibly not a giant because Luffy was able to become really big and even his strawhat and clothes became big, that indicates that maybe joyboy became big like that 800 years ago while fighting the kings and lost the battle in that form.
What i like to think is that joyboy’s body was born naturally with the properties of rubber, and that he was born a sun god. Since we know now that devil fruits are the embodiment of humans wanting to evolve in certain ways, maybe upon joyboy’s death people really wanted him to come back because of all the good that he had done, thus the formation of the hito hito model nika. The government however did not want joyboy’s return and hid the fruit, and shanks had wanted to go and give the fruit to his captain’s son, ace. But instead, the fruit found it’s way to luffy because luffy was born as the one to be sun god nika.

The most fascinating thing I find about the story of joy boy and the devils fruits attraction is that history is repeating itself. Luffy is no doubt joyboy reincarnate. All the devil fruits such Mr 2s fruit has helped him even thought this fruit belonged to that hag who helped orochi get into power. Momos mums devil fruit may have belonged to someone who knew joy boy and he/she may have told him of someone to come who will be able to bring peace to the world. Posideon and joy boy knew each other and again history repeats itself. So just a few instances of some devil fruits who have been intertwined with fate will definitely happen

While that's indeed obviously a fascinating part of the story which is definitely true I think, it also does take away some of the agency, contingency and free choice of Luffy since it was meant to happen anyway. The story is still epic of course, but it makes it also deterministic and leaves less space for contingency and uncertainty. That's however my reflection as a history student haha, that aside I'm still a huge fan of the series! Just a reflection I made.

I have a theory that Nika IS the Model: Nika fruit. Just the naming scheme makes it seem like fruits of this type were manufactured. "Model: etc..." Perhaps the Ancient Kingdom were the sole manufacturers of devil fruits and that's what caused the other kingdoms to rebell. Before I say the next part of my theory, I have to preface with another theory (oops lol, makes it a bit less believable basing a theory on another theory but it holds weight!), Nika is the SUN god, the gorrosei are named after planets. Many believe it to be referencing the Roman Pantheon, the mythological gods named after planetary bodies. But something to think about is our Solar System's planets revolve around the sun. I think it was an incredibly clever sleight of hand by Oda to misdirect our thinking. We know that Devil Fruits reincarnate themselves. Is it a stretch to say the Gorrosei's fruits were the "royal guard" of sorts and Nika was the "leader" of the ancient kingdom. The previous owners, or very plausibly, the CURRENT owners sought to take power and conspired against Nika to seize power. The way the Gorrosei talk about the Nika fruit makes it seem truly God-like in power. A very Oda thing to do would be to symbolize the downfall of humanity at our own hands. We kill our gods for power only to realize the true power of a God. The power of Joy. The power to spread infectious joy and unite humanity under one flag. THATS what scares the World Government. Unity.
I read somewhere an interesting theory which says that Imu and Joyboy were brothers, being the latter the right heir to the throne of the Ancient Kingdom, and Imu conspirated alongside the 20 kings to usurp that legacy.
Wasn't there something about Joyboy dying due to a betrayal? His own brother betraying him would absolutely fill that role.
Recent chapters busted two myths -
1. Joyboy and nika are two different people . Joyboy was the 1st ever pirate to exist . Nika is the name of the sun god
2. Joyboy is a normal sized person . In chapter 1115 joyboy's silhouette is shown talking to emit
I agree with every single one of these except the last one a bit. For one thing while it could be possible he was a giant, it could also be possible that because Joy Boy is "potentially" the God Nika, he could change his size ideally. Given that God's are powerful beings and such.
And considering that if Joy Boy wasn't the god Nika (theoretically), humans can live about a century, there's no telling that this guy wasn't fighting in his old age if he was human.

The Devil fruits come from the tree of life stated by Shanks in the first chapter of one piece (isn’t stated anymore was only figured out from Japanese translation)

Another possible acquaintance of Joyboy could have been the massive individual known as Oars. Oars was known as the island puller who stole entire islands, we know that Wano is actually a composite island. Onigashima the skull island off that floated inside the lake between the Wanokuni peak and the walls looks like the Oars from Thriller Bark, and Moria might have been mistaken about the body he found being the real Oars.
We didn't know if Joy Boy was the true owner of the One Piece. I think people are taking the "Luffy is Joy Boy" a bit too litterally. He indeed has the same devil fruit as Joy Boy, but most importantly he shares the same behavior and worldview as Joy Boy. They are both absolutely free and kind (unlike Black beard, who is similarly free but utterly ruthless). And concerning the devil fruit model nika (egghead spoilers) :
Vegapunk basically said that devil fruit are incarnation of the desire of humans. So the religion of the sun god Nika probably existed before the devil fruit, and because many people probably wished for him to be real, the fruit materialized. I don't think it means that Nika somehow incarnates through Luffy when he uses gear 5.

At best, Joy Boy was a large human like Big Mom. Also, some humans have been shown to live very long (like Dr Kurera), so he wouldn't have needed to be a giant to live up to 100 years old
probably the skull at onigashima was his skull, which would be that big if for instance he was an giant oni like kaido possibly being the same size as him, then gigantified himself, and as a giant giant, died in a fight while in gear 5. As a result his body didn't shrink back down but stayed as large as it was, and he was then later buried at onigashima. This would then make sense that the place where Luffy awoke gear 5 was the same place joy boy was buried.
But whenever luffy gets knocked down or runs out of energy he goes back to normal form

What i like to think is that joyboy’s body was born naturally with the properties of rubber, and that he was born a sun god. The government however did not want joyboy’s return and hid the fruit, and shanks had wanted to go and give the fruit to his captain’s son, ace.
