    21:21 It hasn’t been said (only somewhat implied) and gets a bit undercut by the amount of new discoveries they make, but the group we start with was all _seasoned_ adventurers. They’re rather familiar with the dungeon, and the trappings of it (encountering bodies and dying, as apparent examples).

    Netflix eng subtitles usually match the dub's translation, which always has to be adjusted somewhat from just a direct translation in order to match the lip flaps

    Venomous and poisonous substances will not always breakdown in cooking. Chemically, cooking can degrade SOME substances into something that won’t harm you but other toxins will not. This is why cooking rotten meat still gets you sick. The bacteria die but many of the toxic substances they produce remain.

      That makes sense, appreciate the correction. Like I said I'm not great a cooking, if I was in this show I'd be dead in an instant lol

    5:36 Chilchuk would be a Theif class. As for what he is, maybe he is like a halfling or hobbit (LOTR) who are notorious for being a thief in RPG/DnD lore ^_^;;;

    Love to see it! I actually didn't even realize Dungeon Meshi was finally getting its episode 1 till I saw this. What you said about him seeming really "optimistic about his sister being eaten", I totally get what you mean. This show has the quality I like to call "sneaky deep," where it approaches dark and somber stuff light heartedly enough that it gets your brain to gloss over it. I really like that kind of writing a lot, and think it shows some really smart writing by the mangaka.
    I also think Dungeon Meshi was a genuine game changer when it came to lore and world building. I'm not even a huge lore person. I think that lorepandering is one of the worst things in Western Fantasy, and that "but what about the Shire's Tax Policy???" and "it's not a real world unless you know what people eat!!!" type stuff goes way too far, and I absolutely hate how prominent a role that kind of advice has taken in creative writing vogue. But, I think as far as organically incorporating a deep lore aspect (ecology) that faithfully captures ideas from the real discipline, Dungeon Meshi does it better than anything. And the thing about it is even though the idea is front and center (monster cuisine, dungeon ecosystems), it's not there to lord over you how realistic and grounded it is like a lot of other fantasy.
    I think you'll like this a lot. Trigger is a really good match for this series, because so much of the series is the goofy ways characters express themselves. I was so psyched when I heard they were taking it up.
    Also Marcille is the cutest.

      With 24 episodes I’m definitely intrigued to see where this takes us. It definitely seems like it’s really thought out at least from what this first episode showed us

  • @MIC132MIC

    Marcille went as far as saying "daisuki" when talking about Falin there. The manga went with "I care about her as much as you do" (not sure what the original line in the manga was, though).
    I don't think it's supposed to indicate anything romantic, so the subs kinda convey similar sentiment, though I'd prefer them to be a bit more literal...
    EDIT: I think it's possible that like someone mentioned you got dub subtitles or something like that?
    EDIT2: Also, the low-quality zoom-in onto Mariclle's face was straight from the manga. The panel was basically identical. It's perfect.

      I checked the original japanese line in the manga and both the original line in the anime and the manga say "daisuki", maybe they were too worried that it could be interpreted as romantic feelings, so they changed that up for the English version.

      Can’t say how official it is, but the fandom seems _highly_ confident she absolutely means what it sounds like, but without being overt for various reasons to be explored.

    Your subs were incredibly different from what i watched so i think netflix may have done something funky and gave you the dub subtitles instead. Definitely check for the next episode

    This is definetely very wholesome comfy show but I also felt little weird tension(how they deal with corpse and sister dying, Laios being so ready to chop and eat humanoid creatures lol). loved it

    • @bluestReacts
      @bluestReacts  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      to be fair it does seem like resurrection magic is pretty common in this world. So that's my guess as to why they weren't SUPER worried about her dying

    I think you're using the dub's sub, not the default sub
    Imo slow first episode, but I'll keep watching because i know manga readers were gassing this up
    Also i love the way they explained the monster and stuff, feels like watching a biology class about dungeon's ecology

    Speaking of Netflix anime releases, I guess Komi Can't Communicate, My Happy Marriage and Pluto are the anomalies given how great those titles are. Looks like Delicious in Dungeon will also be a hell of a banger and a great palette cleanser after watching Chained Soldier and Gushing Over Magical Girls.
