    Magnificent, thank you for the tutorial! Video made it look easy, from previous experience I know when I'm going to do it today, it won't be such a breeze in the park however.

    I did cringe a bit when he left the caliper dangling by the flexible hose, then he made it worse by pulling it out of the way with the hook instead of hanging it up on the spring.

      It's spelled new parts. It's easy to tell a lot of work has been done on the car previously, i.e. still spotless calipers, new dampers etc.

    And if you read up the procedure properly you will realise you don't just gun up the driveshaft nut!, there is a very specific torque loading,loosening and torquing again procedure to follow. This is to correctly seat the bearing before final torquing. If it did not matter then why would Ford go to all the bother of writing up a technique?

    1. you're not supposed to hit on the end of the prop shaft straight with hammer, the hole in the middle is for a purpose. You may ruin the thread and you're in for a surprise when you're about to put the nut. 2. you're not supposed to hit with hammer on ball joints. 3. you're not supposed to use the same locking bolt on the suspension arm ball joint as it stretches, every time you should use new one. 4. you're not supposed to use air gun to tighten everything, you must meet certain tightening torque level on various bolts and nuts. 5. you're supposed to clean the bearing seat as dirt and rust can accumulate and in the end your new bearing may be tilted even tho its fully pressed. 6. you should use penetrating oil of some sort to break or soften and clean some of the dirt and rust before unscrewing bolts and nuts to not ruin the threads as much. Just a little things that make you better mechanic. Just a little things for which i learned to do all such repairs myself!

    Does nobody notice him using the hammer to knock out the drive shaft? Could he not have used a punch in stead of damaging the threads? Same with knocking the bottom arm up, would a copper or rubber hammer been a better choice...

    What really pisses me off is that I get the cars in my garage after dicks like this one have worked on them! Can't believe your so called expert just rattle gunned all the fasteners tight! Manufacturers list tightening torques for a reason! I only use the rattle gun to dismantle,ALL assembly is done with wrenches and torqued to spec with a torque wrench. Just paying lip service to torques and gunning everything tight is very very bad practice! You have no idea of the load you have put on the steering rod end or the drive shaft nut. If you are struggling I have some old Auto Data discs you can have to read up from and help you to raise your game.

    Got into some bad habits there dude! Suspend the calliper from a hook,stop using standard sockets on an impact gun,eye protection when using power tools that generate forces like an impact gun can. Don't get your face right up next to that stack of pushing blocks when pressing out a bearing. You don't hit on a bearing directly with a hammer. The list goes on! Pretty sure just an actor pretending to be a mechanic, no mechanic worth his salt would get so much wrong?

    Very good informative video! I changed my rear wheel bearings after watching your tutorial and I did have to deal with two rounded-off Torx T50 bolts. Managed to file the sides of the heads in order to get them out with a spanner so all good. Great video, you made it look so easy! I wish I had access to a set of ramps ;) Where did you out the pry bar to pop the bottom ball joint so easily? I've had mine off a few times and it always takes me hours to get it out.

    • @StevenSugref
      @StevenSugref 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      autodoc.co.uk What type of pry bar does the mechanic use to separate the lower ball joint? It looks like a tyre lever, do you know what brand it is? also do you know if the subframe was lowered before the ball joint was released? Thanks again

    • @alexandreloredo6836
      @alexandreloredo6836 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It can be difficult, indeed. When I managed to do mine, i didn't have a pry bar, and my vehicle was only raised on the side I was working on (the other wheel on the ground). I tried to pry between the arm and the hub carrier. I also tried to hammer the arm downwards, but nothing happened : in fact it was a bad idea because the bottom ball axis, wich has gone down about one centimeter, was slantwise, it was mashing the cast iron of the hub carrier and refused to go down anymore. The only way I have found was to lower the engine subframe (Ford repair manual) and to remove the bolt of the front link between the arm and the subframe : this has been radical, the bottom ball joint removed easily !!! (reverse order when install !)
      Sorry for my english, which is still french :)

      You're not along @S Fergus
      Swapped my whole hub for a good one from a scrap yead (cheaper and easier than swapping the bearing for a DIYer) and I was bashing, pulling and levering on my lower arm for about an hour lol... typical as the one in the scrap yard only took me 5 min. Luck of the draw I suppose.
      Such a nice feeling when it finally comes off though lol
