I designed my kitchen 22 years ago and still love it. I have a traditional style home. I chose white cabinets in embellished shaker style. I chose a large island in my favorite cobalt blue. I have been able to decorate in formal blue and white or rustic farmhouse. Very versatile, wood floors white subway tile backsplash I chose a Formica counter tops. I know but I love it and very durable. Never grown tired of my kitchen my favorite white color paint is Swiss coffee.
I love your attitude. That's exactly how I feel!!! I hate the fact nothing today has tradition, continuity, or legacy because people dont leave others alone with stupid trends that are useless and make no sense!!! Congrats, keep enjoying your space!!!
I redid my kitchen about 2 1/2 years ago. White shaker cabinets. 3 x 12 white subway tile. Laminate countertops. I wanted granite, but there was absolutely no way I could afford it so laminate it is. My house was built in 1900. It is 690 ft.² and I’m in a lower middle-class neighborhood. I did not want to do anything that was going to be overkill for the neighborhood. But also I was on a tight budget. It all works for me. And I am never updating my house again. When I die, the next person can deal with it.😜
I am a huge fan of the kitchen triangle. There's sometimes 3 major workers in my kitchen and we Never get in each other's way. There's a sense of relief and satisfaction whenever family and friends get in the kitchen together to strut their stuff. I also love and honor the proper distance between appliances and middle island to allow oven, dishwasher and refrigerator doors to open/shut while in most cases people pass through with ease. Thank you! I appreciate the tips you give on creating a timeless kitchen.
I like the wooden cabinets already there better than the shakers. And I don't care if it's "out of style". Staying "in style" is just a marketing ploy to get people to renovate often. Do what you love and don't worry what others think.
I’m so glad someone mentioned that the styles are so that people have to remodel their kitchen or other room often. When I had my Interior Designer, she told me that I should pick what I like and keep it and not remodel or get new furniture or other things like that every time the Stiles changed. She said a person should pick the furniture, paint colors, and other styles and then just keep them for their lifetime.
Hi Penny, Michelle here. I just want to say I love your ideas. I have a 40 year old kitchen, dark wood, flat square plain panels with white backsplash and I still love. I have added over the years bisque appliance which i know out of style along with a cream, white and gray tile floor. I have added recess lights above the ceiling ,white ceiling fan and a decorated vent. I get so many compliments on my kitchen, its crazy. The key is as you say timeless ,classic, clean line and contrast. New to your channel and ill keep on checking in on what you have to say.
Thanks for your insights Michelle! I agree timeless choices for big ticket items and maybe incorporating trendy stuff for decor that can be switched out!
Great ideas. Been remodeling kitchens for the past 30 yrs. But at the end it what it's what each client can afford, functualityand what makes them happy at the end. Most of my clients don't follow trends.
I have lived in my house 50 years and I still have the same cabinets that were here when I moved in. They are flat front cabinets and I am still using the same pools that were there when I moved in. I like them they are kind of kitty Silver chrome like a half moon. They’re easy to use and they’ve always been here so I kind of like having the old stuff. I have a brand new stove a brand new refrigerator a new dishwasher stainless steel sink. I love my kitchen. It’s just what I need. Thank you for all your hard work.
16 years ago I remodeled a kitchen and chose Shaker light wood cabinets with 2 pantry cabinets and a beadboard ceiling. It had an enormous industrial stainless sink. If I lived there now, the only thing I’d need to update would be the counter tops and change the light fixture over the sink. There ARE classic styles that stand the test of time. White Shaker is never out. It may be less popular than now, but white kitchens are never out, because when it’s clean, it sparkles.
Exactly! Some styles are classic and while it may not be the 'hot' thing right now, it's always here and always just a year or two from once again being the 'hot' thing!
Our new build has a white kitchen and grey walls throughout. We are choosing a neutral grey, but grey is timeless regardless of what the experts say! Great video, thank you!
I own rental properties. All are old buildings, some over 100 years old, in Seattle. Most bathrooms and kitchens had been remodeled at some time in the past, and are terrible. I replace the kitchen cabinets, appliances, and countertops, and add great sources of lighting. All the wiring and plumbing is updated and brought up to code. I need to choose countertops and backsplashes that are indicative of an older era, yet have every modern convenience. Most tenants who choose older building want charm, as dormitory style apartments are the norm. I go with shaker cabinets, usually ikea. I love how there are so many expansive space saving options. So far, they are holding up well. I use white subway tiles with a grey grout (the color of mildew, because white grout will eventually be stained that color around sources of water and once stained, it’s hard to correct). I paint old, but working refrigerators, black. It’s a miracle worker. It gives me time to have the money to eventually replace them when they stop working. I never buy white appliances. It’s either black or stainless. I tile the floor with greige large rectangular tiles in a running bond pattern. I rarely choose all white cabinets. I love black on the bottom and white for the upper cabinets, or all black cabinets. I use a darker walnut butcher block from IKEA for countertops that I seal. The paint colors I use are B.M. Revere pewter for the walls, dove white for the trim, and dragon’s breath for the doors. I usually use white plantation blinds for the windows and greige colored carpeting. I run the white subway tiles to the ceiling as well as the upper cabinets. When I advertise, I will receive as many as 100 inquiries via email. I will show the apartment from noon to six on a Saturday with appointments every 15 minutes. Most, if not all, want the apartment, so it’s rented within days. The kitchen and bath look timeless and not trendy, but still fresh. Ironically, my own kitchen has maple shaker doors and hardwood floors. I am not happy with it. As decisive as I am with my rentals, I am a deer caught in the headlights with my own kitchen. Thank you for a great video. I never stop watching kitchen and decorating TH-cam videos.
True about that; I can help others with their places, but harder with my own. My kitchen had 5 entrances or doorways, and two large windows on the opposite wall; this leaves little room for upper cabinets or full pantry cupboards. I’m still formulating ideas in my head, measuring, all before final design and renovation plans.
Thanks for the thoughtful comment Nora! I also own 2 rental properties - one is an Airbnb and one is a long term rental. The Airbnb was so fun to design! What do you struggle with the most when choosing finishes for your own home? I'd love to help!
@@pennymodern That would be fantastic. I have downloaded your wonderful list. It would be fun to send you my before and after pictures of my rentals ( just for fun and I would love yours). But, where I really need help is my own kitchen. Yikes!
I agree on your darker grout choice. I have my own cleaning company and between hard water, dirt and mold it’s impossible to keep light colored grout looking good.
BM White Dove 💯. We painted our whole house that color and it’s perfect!! Tip: have SW color match. I like their paint quality better and they have good sales. Cashmere satin finish.
I just had my kitchen remodeled a couple of months ago. I went with a shaker-style cabinet in medium walnut stain. The countertops and full backsplash are Taj Mahal quartzite. Lighting is under cabinet, overhead and pendant. I love it so far and am appreciative of what I have over the aged formica look that I had previously.
I have a granite that is more muted in creams and tan. Granite is harder than all other surface and you don’t have to be careful with hot pans. They don’t burn granite. Granite only need sealed once a year. Manmade composite tops are a nice look. They don’t burn granite get cut marks and show burns. They are not cheap.
I agree with most of your info Penny. Infact, we are currently doing a gut job kitchen remodel. We chose our finishes back in April and are still in this process. We chose a lvp flooring due to having 3 small dogs. Our cabinets are shaker painted tops will be an shade of white and the lowers will be a light shade of gray. Backsplash will be a white with shades of gray herringbone. Quartz countertops will be white with very light gray veins. Black stainless steel appliances with a black stainless steel range hood. Microwave will be in a custom shelve beside the oven. I can not wait for the to all come together. Thank you for this amazing video and I feel great that most of what we doing goes along with what you were saying. For us we will be living here for the rest of our lives and then it will be left for our child.
I love white kitchens. When we built our last home l chose a cream with wood crown molding to the upper and lower part of the cabinets. I have brushed nickel handles on the cabinets for my door openers. My island is a dark walnut with the same handles as the cabinets. I find that the color l chose is too creamy and l find that it always looks like it needs cleaning. I had a white kitchen and l loved it. It was always bright and beautiful. My next home will be back to white.
I happen to be decorating one kitchen and maybe 2. One I need to be appealing today and the other is I want a more timeless look. I just happened on you and you’ve answered a lot of q questions I’ve been pondering
Hi 👋! I just completed a kitchen remodel. I chose a medium tone “skinny shaker style” cabinets. Although I love a modern kitchen I didn’t want a flat surface or a typical shaker style cabinets. I chose an in-between style and I love it. I also chose a white with golden beige simple veiny quartz countertop and backsplash as well. No regrets.
I have the perfect triangle three steps between my refrigerator and my stove two steps from the stove to the sink two steps from the refrigerator to the sink. My husband and I solved the problem about running into each other. We take turns cooking and cleaning.
Before you spend money ripping out your cabinets, paint a section. We did and now love the look. Saved thousands. My other suggestion is to keep your kitchen budget within the appropriate range for the value of your home. Over investing looks silly.
Great video! My modern farmhouse is entirely 'Snowbound" by Sherwin Williams in flat. I used an enamel on trim, but same color. Touching up is a breeze! It's a clean, crisp look.
If I had to work with your type of kitchen, I wouldn’t change the cabinets. I would just add a deep green color to the island - it would work soo good with your natural shade of wood. I wouldn’t change shaker cabinets- it would just add character, romantic feel and warmness to your kitchens without making it feel outdated. And I would add a good size clear glass subway tile as a backsplash. It is highly practical to clean and adds a subtle sparkle to the space and really a whole another dimension of visual interest. Anything you do according to your preferences will be marvelous- I’m certain, and I can’t wait to see the new look!!
The small handmade tiles are a pain to clean. But if you never clean, and like dirty...go for it. As for wood stained cabinets, they can look nice I am still on the white cabinet kick. It's bright and clean. Create contrasts with accents and decor
our home was built in 1956-flat panel light wood cabinets. plan to Remodel-will do the same kind w/ updates. It fits with the age and style of our house :)
@@astrayelmgodThey don’t have to be cold. You can put a collection of cutting boards, baskets, ceramics, stone vessels, flowers, small framed pictures, vintage finds, etc. to warm them up. The white becomes the canvas for your creativity. You can use a pretty runner and or round rug to make that a focal point.
Thanks for all the tips! Jusr moved in a 1950s small house with a small galley kitchen. All the walls in the home were painted alabaster SW. The kitchen only has cabinets on one side. They are older white color which actually looks closer to the alabaster. Im in thr planning stages of figuring out what i want, but i do want timeless, bright, neutral, natural. I can add pops of color. Flooring is an wide dark brown tile and i hsve the granite countertops. I can't see anything on them. Lol! I like a plain, almost solid color beige top or whitish top. For now, ill just spend the winter painting my current cabinets bright white. Then figure out if i can keep any of the older cabinets and just change out thr doors maybe while deciding on installing cabinets on the opposite side where the stove is. I'll probably do the over the stove microwave when i get to that side since counter space is limited. Thanks for the video, i subscribed to get more ideas. Im probably 3 years away from doing it unless i can do parts along the way.
Ive had clean white flat doors without handles for 6 years I would go shaker every time I cant wait to change them out, theyre ok at best if you dont have kids but keeping them clean and fingermark free is a full time job !!
We all have different tastes and design preferences. I love my creamy white kitchen and stone counter tops. I can change the paint colour, furniture and display items to transform the look without having to change the cabinets or counter tops. I know I would not want a black or dark kitchen and I would not invest in any of those dark cabinets because I know what I can live with for a long period of time. They look beautiful to the right person but they do not hold up for me.
@@texassongwriter I like Cotton Knit from Behr for an off-white. Don't know if they still carry it. We wanted to paint our high-ceiling. open-plan walls with that a year or so ago, but our painters used Sherwin Williams, so the closest match was something with the word "milk" in it. It's ok, but doesn't have quite the freshness of cotton knit. We have one wall painted Jalapeno (it's deep reddish orange, love it, for a splash of color when you walk in the front door.}
I’m about to do a full kitchen rebuild and her dated cabinets and countertop are exactly the same as my dated cabinets and countertop, LOL. Very early 2000s. I want a lot of white, but interest in natural details and varied lighter neutrals. No open shelving or uppers, but a wall of counterdepth appliance garage and pantry cabinets around a cooktop nook and wall ovens. I kind of love some of the porcelain tile that has a wood-ish look. Looking for biophilic, organic modern feel, I think. We have an island with a very large deeply patterned and curved on two sides granite slab that we all love because we’ve lived around that slab for 20 years, so I’m keeping that island slab which will become the focal point, but replacing the outer wall countertops with something more subdued but coordinating. Very excited to do this rebuild!
Design to the style and year of your home. Most of this would look terrible in 1940s cottage. White backdrops always work because you can add trendy colors with furniture and accessories. Paint and stain can always be redone. These are just my opinions tho.
Great tips and now going to watch more of your videos. You asked for a reply about the open shelving. I knew that wouldn't last too long since it takes too much maintenance to keep clean, not to mention having to wash dishes left in the open to collect dust and pet hair. However, I do think that if one has the space, one or two shelves are nice to add some decoration. I'm one to think that a kitchen shouldn't be totally utilitarian and should have some decor like other rooms of the house. In the same respect, you could use it for storage of some items like wine bottles, and combine those with something like pottery or floral to make an accessory setting. Again, thank you for the informative videos. So glad I found you today and subscribed!
I like BM Swiss Coffee..I just painted it in my bathroom and plan to paint it through out…it was important to try it in a small area which now I’m inspired me to use it throughout my home. It’s such a beautiful creamy color without yellow.
We built our house 35 yrs ago, and we have flat front white cabinets, 2 cabinet companies wouldn’t sell them to us, but thankfully the third did, and now our son is building a house on a piece of our property we gave to him and they are putting in flat front cabinets
My current favorite neutral cabinet color is Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore. I don’t love an all white kitchen, but I do like neutrals. This color adds a bit of warmth, but still reads neutral. I also don’t necessarily think the kitchen triangle needs to be strictly adhered to-especially the refrigerator. I think the refrigerator needs to be in a very accessible space where it doesn’t get in the way of food prep or washing dishes. ❤
I chose my paint color to match my light switches and outlets. The choices in light switches has expanded in recent years. Things like lighted switches, motion sensitive switches and variable brightness controls can add updated conveniences to your remodel.
I love the look of hoods over the stove I currently don't have one I personally like shaker style cabinets. I have a 10 ft Galley Kitchen on one side and a 9 ft eat in are off to the side with windows. Im trying to like my space so i'm doing a small remodel with new hardware ( brass ) "Wise Owl " Gray paint color on cabinets. Dark grey on walls for contrast. We have dark gray corian countertops, they are staying it's not in the budget for quartz right now! Wood wainscoting on back splash im gonna keep that for now but would love to do tile. We have recessed lighting and pendant needs an update might do something over the kitchen table thats new and fresh. Great video thanks
Light green is my favorite because it can go from classic French to Danish modern to 50’s or 60’s funky to Dark Academia Cottagecore or Baba Yaga witchy.
Anybody who can redo their kitchen in 10 or even 15 years is much better off financially than I am . But I have a 50+ year old relatively small, but not tiny kitchen. So this video is so helpful. White and streamlined is what I need to make it seem larger. I do think I'll be able to have a nice island due to an old garden that was in my mid-century style house. High slanted ceilings because of that mid-century style without a lot of structural change too. I like the shaker style cabinets. I'll need that microwave over the cooktop to have enough storage too. I'll put the hood replace stream-lined one because that's all that's needed and it is not so big and imposing.
Current fave white for interiors is BM Swiss Coffee, 80% strength. I tend to like warmer whites, but we tried white dove and felt it was both too light/bright and too yellow for our space. For exterior, I just painted an east/west facing home in So California a very slightly taupe-y off-white called Pale Oak (with black trim) and people have literally come by when we’re there to ask about the paint color. It’s got just enough color that it almost looks like a Limewash. Btw - there are lots of interesting whites and off whites in that new fancy SW paint line. I’m looking through them now, for a bathroom remodel.
I like your ideas. However, no matter what you choose today, it will be out of style in five years because that is the nature of the beast. So, I will choose what I like and what works for me, but nothing over the top-unless you have the money to redo the kitchen every seven years.
This!!!!! And the cabinets with cathedral arch on uppers, my gosh those are fine IMHO, they look well-made, in great shape, why would anyone just rip them out sending to landfill when they are very good cabinets? Maybe people with tons of money would rip them out. Trying to impress others is not my thing, I guess.
Functionality-- #1 thing to include is pull out drawers, if youre going for timeless well at some point getting on hands & knees to dig around in base cabinet for a certain pan.... it's a requirement to have pull outs in base cabinets (or drawers). And the dead corners, avoid like the plague!
100% Agree, I feel like if there's no pull out drawers, the junk just piles up and I don't use the back of the cabinets at all. Thanks for the comment!
Kitchen triagle is best when there is only one cook and separate cleaner. My husband was the chef and he also cleaned as he went. My responsibiility was preparing table and clean up after dinner by washing and putting dishes, cutlery and cutlery away. He didn't want me touching his pots or knives. We had two triangles. When looking directly into the kitchen area, the left side was set up with fridge, food storage, microwave, under counter pull out coffee pot and toaster, pots and pans a large stove with hood and the sink across from it in the island. There was a two bowl sink in ithe sland with two sets of controls. The under counter island pull out of trash and composte was on my husbands side of the sink. The sink and stover was the dividing line. My side was on right. Set up triangle was of sink, dishwashers, everyday cutlery, dish/glass storage. The glass cabinet at end of cabinet run held fancy glasses, good dishes, fancy bowls and serving dishes of all sizes and types, and silverware. Items not always used every day. I accessed the fridge for condiments without crossing his cooking space.
I like the new high end trend of the no kitchen look. It features frameless cabinets without hardware, in beautiful woods and matching panels on all appliances. The countertops are large sleek islands with subdued stone or marble. This really integrates so beautifully with open concept modern.
Having counter space or an island available near the refrigerator is a good thing. This is especially true when removing things that require both hands or multiple items.
Cloud white by Benjamin Moore is my favorite white, especially for a kitchen. It's warm without being yellow. Even though it's white it gives you a cozy feel.
I like the busy granite. Im planning a kitchen with green cabinets beige walls and ceiling and beige tile and a black kitchen island and white appliances range lightfixtures and trim. So that noisy granit will fit in perfect. Maybe not timeless even if i like to consider all of your ideas this feels timeless for me
For ease of cleaning I found that a solid piece that matches the countertop is best. There is no grout to deal with. I love it. I had subway tiles on the backsplash and cleaning became a horrible experience
I Absolutely Hate Light Wood Decor In Actually Any Room. Whether It's What Is Currently 'IN' Or 'NOT'. I Love To Decorate, And Definitely Do So Without Checking in To See What Are The Current Trends'!! ❤🎀❤
White cabinets are still in, but you need to design everything right. There’s a skill to designing an inviting kitchen, types of lighting play a huge role in making a kitchen look more expensive than it is… it should be useful for evenings, daytime, dark, cold winters, hot bright summers, and lifestyle (pets and children if applicable) Also remember, practical adjustable storage… create an itinerary of items and measure your items to know what cabinetry is required. You should know before the the design is finished, and contract is signed where you intend to place your items. The aesthetics are only one part of design… but useful, storage is the purpose of a kitchen. Just remember how annoying it is to find a spot for items and they won’t fit. Lastly, plan, plan, plan. Once the VERY detailed contract is signed with the best fit contractor (research well 3-4 companies), you should avoid making any changes. Changes will mess with your budget. You should take samples to know if you have lead, asbestos, or other issues. You should know which walls are bearing walls. You should know flooring heights to make sure one isn’t higher than the next room’s flooring. You should make sure dishwashers can be pulled out and repaired (ie. flooring extends under whole dishwasher). You should know the lowest point of room (check with a marble), you should know where your plumbing air vent pipe to the roof is because your sink needs to be 5 feet or less from it. Ideally have sink away from an outside wall, especially in places with cold winters… avoiding frozen pipes or mold. Vent above gas stove needs to be 30 inches, and you cannot have windows which open right next to your gas stove. No electrical outlets are allowed in an island side… only on top, that pops up (child safety rules). Make sure under each sink you have an individual water shut off valve. Electrical outlets need to be GFCI protected within 6 feet of a water source like a sink. Note where your light switches should be; they may need to be on both ends of a room, so you are not walking through the kitchen in the dark. Kitchen floors should withstand a dishwasher leak, a child spilling a liquid, or a dog knocking over a dogfood or water dish. Usually better for upper cabinets to be up to the ceiling to increase storage, and avoid dust bunny collection; makes a room look taller too. Choose handles that function well and feel good; NEVER in the centre of a cupboard door or too high for cook to reach easily. If you are a tall family, you can get 36” high lower cabinets. Study traffic flow in the room… you don’t want people walking through or children running through the active cooking, washing up, or prep zone. Roll out shelves allow you to reach to the back of a shelf, drawers are useful for storage, and cabinet above fridge should be as deep a refrigerator for storage of trays, roasting pans, or large lightweight mixing bowls. Design a kitchen to be able to have a place for everything, and easy to take out and put away. Make sure that when stove/oven doors are fully open, dishwasher door fully open, and refrigerator door open, you don’t have them hitting each other. Aisles should be a minimum of 36 inches to 48 inches; 48 is better for multiple people working in a kitchen. Remember to make sure support beams in basement under the kitchen are already strong enough for an island, lots of people visiting, and the rest of the weight of cabinets and appliances. Don’t want to have them fall into the basement because a trade/handiman had previously cut through the beams for wires, plumbing pipe, gas lines, or openings. All these functional issues are of utmost importance… you can always change a paint colour yourself.
The cabinets in your kitchen are called raised panel. We opted for that style in our kitchen renovation (just rectangular, not arched), because our home is very traditional with raised paneled doors and mantle. The shaker style would have also worked. Enjoyed your video. It was very informative, thanks!
I refuse to get rid of open shelves, i think upper cabinets doesn't have a great functionality. That's why my base cabinets (which are black)I have plenty of pull out drawers, so the unattractive stuff goes there and pantry cabinets. I have the shaker look and I love it and my whole house (except bathrooms and laundry room) has wooden floors. I love all that you shared gave some great thoughts and ideas
I have had flat and shaker front cabinets and think are both great and neither date. I have had wood and champagne cabinets that I do not think date but colours do IMO
I'm a fan of work area triangles. Dishwasher/sink/trash, or oven/prep/stove. Maybe for someone it's refrigerator/sink/prep. These are simply personalized modern triangles of the same hundred year old concept.
White shows every,...you need to clean! That is why I don't like the dark colors. You can't see what filth is there unless you touch it or catch it on that just right morning light. Yuck!
I agree with 15 year longevity on style. White kitchens will always be in style. I have off white with different color island(cherry). Five years later grey kitchens were popular, then mint green and blue. Now they are going out of style for modern with walnut. Shaker cabinets are always timeless. Yes the detail in the countertop should be muted. Subway tile is timeless and wood floors in kitchen are timeless. Shelving is usually because there are no top cabinets. It gives city dwellers more storage. I am looking for a redo now after 16 years. I will do all white this time with accents in beige or black. That is the safest and most traditional. Unfortunately people change up kitchens often unlike our parents who had kitchens for thirty years. This may be do to home remodeling channels on television today. I hope stainless stays in style but nobody knows what the future will bring. Quartz is the biggie now for countertops. I feel granite does not burn with hot items on it but the colors are not popular like the quartz colors. I use my kitchen and cook daily for my family so my redo will be practical. I hope my comments help someone, ❤
If you watch Yale for venting Steve Sheinkopf hates over-the-range microwaves. He's very passionate about venting and why its important to get it right
I have never seen(in person) a DYI cabinet repainted job that didn't look.. exactly like a dyi.iF you insist on painting, have a pro do the doors in their shop using the right paint technique. 2nd..solid backsplash options are absolutely timeless. The look of the slab running continously from counter and up the wall will never be out of style

Correct, marketing tool to push new trends, to get people to spend money and renovate
Thanks so much for the thoughtful comment. I also love Swiss Coffee I painted our previous home's bathroom that color!
When I die, the next person can deal with it.😜
Love that look of wood floors and white cabinets. Also butcher block countertops. Makes me want to ferment foods and chop vegetables.
I love Swiss Coffee! It is my favorite white. My ceilings, as well as the walls in my kitchen, DR & LR are Swiss Coffee.
I agree you should do what you love and what works for you and your family!
Whatever you like is what your kitchen should be.
True if you’re staying in your house and don’t plan on selling for years. Enjoy what you like and can afford!
I agree wholeheartedly with this sentiment however functuality is not a word. Did auto correct get you. Functionality is a word
I love white cabinets. my personal opinion is it makes the kitchen brighter and a clean look.
Me too
I also think the white kitchen is timeless. You can always add color in textiles and kitchenware
Agree especially if the kitchen is inclined to be dark
My husband is also the cook in our kitchen and when I designed my kitchen, I put in a prep sink. We love having two sinks!
Open shelf under and upper cabinet is wonderful.
I like the grey on bottom and white on top ones. Most of your ideas I agree with. Thanks!
I love your old kitchen cabinets. I had them built in oak and stained fruitwood done 1990. They were beautiful. I wish I still had them.
No regrets.
All white kitchen CABINETS are classic. They are timeless just like subway tile
Agree!
they are on the way out - too sterile
My cabinets are like what you currently have. I LOVE them.
Great video!
My modern farmhouse is entirely 'Snowbound" by Sherwin Williams in flat. I used an enamel on trim, but same color. Touching up is a breeze! It's a clean, crisp look.
That's a great color! Thanks for sharing!
I have used Snowbound in portions of my house. Wonderful!
White cabinets are always a great choice! Thank you for the comment!
@pennymodern4764 absolutely. Very sage and happy to be surrounded by bright. Some people enjoy dark and moody. I don't. Except from my coffee ;)
@@mikerudd4943and my men
I had a shaker and dust used to settle in the ridges, so I’ve gone for flat fronted this time.
our home was built in 1956-flat panel light wood cabinets. plan to Remodel-will do the same kind w/ updates. It fits with the age and style of our house :)
Sherwin-Williams satin, Drift of Mist - it's beautiful and goes with everything!
Great color, thanks for commenting!
Will always love my warm picturesque granit! Others are boring. My granit pulls everything together
All white kitchen is timeless
Agree! But it's fun to look at trends from time to time, right?
You say "timeless", I say "cold", "sterile", "hospital-like".....

I love white and cooper colour kitchen
Swiss coffee, greek villa , white flour is nice. Love a warm white
Er, sorry, what are you talking about? Greek villa? Swiss coffee?
@@janetwest231White paint colors
@@texassongwriter I like Cotton Knit from Behr for an off-white. Don't know if they still carry it. We wanted to paint our high-ceiling. open-plan walls with that a year or so ago, but our painters used Sherwin Williams, so the closest match was something with the word "milk" in it. It's ok, but doesn't have quite the freshness of cotton knit. We have one wall painted Jalapeno (it's deep reddish orange, love it, for a splash of color when you walk in the front door.}
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I agree open shelving can be great for a decorative touch!
The HANDS!!! Youre driving me NUTS with waving those hands constantly!!
Take a Xanax
I like BM Swiss Coffee..I just painted it in my bathroom and plan to paint it through out…it was important to try it in a small area which now I’m inspired me to use it throughout my home. It’s such a beautiful creamy color without yellow.
I love that you tried it out in a small area first. It's always a great idea before committing to a whole home!
I have open cabinets in the corner only. My dishes all match. I love the look.
Great idea!!
Great video! Thank you for sharing❤
Thank you for the kind words! Appreciate you!
Yes I agree you have to do what works for you, and what you love. After all it's your kitchen!
@@cherylanon5791Agreed with you! 😂
@@cherylanon5791the arch makes the cabinet looks softer and less boxy.
In the olden days, when all we had were laminate countertops they were so affordable I changed them out three times. So easy to change the look.
This is the most likely reason people renovate.
Linen or oatmeal are my go to colors.
What brand?
@@pennymodern I’ve mostly used the Behr brand from Home Depot.
I like the new high end trend of the no kitchen look. It features frameless cabinets without hardware, in beautiful woods and matching panels on all appliances. The countertops are large sleek islands with subdued stone or marble. This really integrates so beautifully with open concept modern.
very modern and chic!
White kitchens never go out of style! Clean, elegant, traditional or modern--white kitchens are still my favorite!
Soft greens are the BEST!!
Favorite White: Paper White for whole house common areas. Chantilly Lace for bathrooms

I'm glad you found it helpful!
Having counter space or an island available near the refrigerator is a good thing. This is especially true when removing things that require both hands or multiple items.
My fridge and stove have one counter and cabinet section same as yours between them. Not great feng shui. TY for good info!
Maybe not timeless even if i like to consider all of your ideas this feels timeless for me
Favorite natural paint color: Ice Cube by Sherman Williams.
Love it!
For ease of cleaning I found that a solid piece that matches the countertop is best. There is no grout to deal with. I love it. I had subway tiles on the backsplash and cleaning became a horrible experience
Good video! The uppers have doors with a cathedral arch.
I Absolutely Hate Light Wood Decor In Actually Any Room. Whether It's What Is Currently 'IN' Or 'NOT'. I Love To Decorate, And Definitely Do So Without Checking in To See What Are The Current Trends'!! ❤🎀❤
Chantilly lace by Benjamin Moore is my favorite white.
Love that!
I have and love
I love Chantilly but found I had to have 3 coats to get the right shade. I also like Alabaster and Snowbound. Flat of course.
Hands down favorite: Alabaster by Sherwin-Williams;
Yes!! Love that one too!
White cabinets are still in, but you need to design everything right.
There’s a skill to designing an inviting kitchen, types of lighting play a huge role in making a kitchen look more expensive than it is… it should be useful for evenings, daytime, dark, cold winters, hot bright summers, and lifestyle (pets and children if applicable)
Also remember, practical adjustable storage… create an itinerary of items and measure your items to know what cabinetry is required.
My favorite white paint color is White Duck by SW.
Awesome color! Thanks for the comment Robbie!
I like both but shaker style cabinets win
The cabinets in your kitchen are called raised panel. We opted for that style in our kitchen renovation (just rectangular, not arched), because our home is very traditional with raised paneled doors and mantle. The shaker style would have also worked. Enjoyed your video. It was very informative, thanks!
Love a statement hood
Great ideas thank you. I would like lower cabinets but i know they would be functional but wonder how they would look. Hace you ever seen that style?
I refuse to get rid of open shelves, i think upper cabinets doesn't have a great functionality. That's why my base cabinets (which are black)I have plenty of pull out drawers, so the unattractive stuff goes there and pantry cabinets. I have the shaker look and I love it and my whole house (except bathrooms and laundry room) has wooden floors. I love all that you shared gave some great thoughts and ideas
I like shaker style interior doors, and flat front cabinets.
I have had flat and shaker front cabinets and think are both great and neither date. I have had wood and champagne cabinets that I do not think date but colours do IMO
Agree 100%
Majestic white
I will have to check that out. Which brand is that by?
My fave part bite is also dove white by BM!
I don't like open shelving or cabinets with glass doors. I don't have time to clean and organize constantly.
I'm a fan of work area triangles. Dishwasher/sink/trash, or oven/prep/stove. Maybe for someone it's refrigerator/sink/prep. These are simply personalized modern triangles of the same hundred year old concept.
White subway tile in a kitchen shows EVERYTHING. That white European cabinet screams 1980s.
White shows every,...you need to clean! That is why I don't like the dark colors. You can't see what filth is there unless you touch it or catch it on that just right morning light. Yuck!
thanks for the tips. What are your thoughts on travertine tile for floor and backsplash?
All white are timeless I don’t think they would outdated
love white dove too
Great minds think alike!
I used stone wood look. Love it….
Like White dove for trim, but use Navajo White 1/2 strength on walls. ceilings are tricker, imo
If you watch Yale for venting Steve Sheinkopf hates over-the-range microwaves. He's very passionate about venting and why its important to get it right
Great tip! Thank you!
I think all white kitchens lack interest. I agree medium stained wood cabinets will be classic. I like the slim shaker style best.
I totally agree!
Cracked pepper SW
I'm old enough to remember when stained wood cabinets were considered dated not classic.
I agree with White Dove as a neutral white color.
