Nice interview. Ty Sandy. It's pretty neat to see how Tesla is developing new battery technology and other manufacturers are also developing new form factors. I'm just guessing, it feels like Tesla is the whole reason so much RnD is being done towards energy storage and mediums. The rate of development is very promising.
Thanks for Sandy's review of the Sakuu battery. Need many more details, like regarding the internal resistance, as well as thermal management, energy density and cyclelife vs. C-rate of discharge/charge and temperature.
You might want to watch Sandy's channel. The new Sakuu, non-metal battery is still in development. Sandy broke the story of its existence. And it seems very exciting, but we aren't likely to see any specs or details for a while. You can check out their Lithium metal batteries, which are pretty amazing as well, and fully developed, with the specs and testing revealed.
Oh yea this is a game changer! I saw Sandy’s other more detailed video on the Sakuu battery and it’s amazing! This also provides better recycling functionality.
Sandy, my AAA 1200 MAH batteries have the same voltage as my D Cell batteries 10,000 MAH. Voltage is the same, but not the power! 😅 Though you should know! 😅
I wondered (out loud, on line) years ago... "What if you could Photocopy a battery electrode?" . This MIGHT be it. . (And yes, I do know a little on the subject)
I was hoping Sandy had a thought on Tesla moving to 48 volts on more vehicles. < Speaking of weight savings. I think the "Juniper" Y might be a good opportunity for 48v and drive by wire, but I have a feeling Tesla is so busy with so many other projects that the next Y will likely be only refreshed as much as the "Highland" 3. I also understand that the price point is as important as anything for the Y, but they do have to sell in a more competitive market in 2025 and beyond so I'd expect even more than the 3 "refresh" gave us.
They're working on it. Everything out of Tesla wil be 48v from now on. They published and spammed every other car maker with their "How to do 48v" pdf. Jim Farley confirmed Ford got theirs. This is to make the supply chain grow fast enough. Imo Tesla and the Chinese will be there first. Kind of as usual, then.
@@andrewsaint6581 I just don't think so. Until there is a new platform, current refresh vehicles like Model Y "Juniper" will likely not change yet. Look at the "Highland" Model 3. I hoped 48v would happen there, but on a refresh, it likely doesn't make economic sense, so 14.8v remains as it will with the Y. Yeah, the 48v PDF that went to other OEMS happened last year. None of them will make the change anytime soon. Look at Rivian. They just announced a lot of great changes but they're still on 12v. It's going to take time
Has tesla said what the upcoming single motor rwd with 250+miles for 60k in 2025 will be limited to towing? Most of my rwd f-150 xl work trucks are only rated to tow 5,000-7,500#
Elon has stated they can use any kind of battery in their cars. Perhaps they could buy or license the tech of this new battery. I just wish they had access to the new CATL batteries in early testing and production.
Since Tesla is their largest customer CATL probably "looks after" Tesla as a ("THE"?) "trusted customer"? (Especially after the "pulling back" debacle)

It looks like an interesting battery, but I still haven't heard much specs. Can they mass produce it? Can they make a battery pack for for example a Tesla model 3?
Hi Brain. A possible question for Sandy could be, what changes tesla would have to do to make the Cybertruck road legal in Europe. This in regards to pedestrian safety which by itself is utterly ridiculous since any tesla alarms you if you get near one. See you on X! Greetings from Belgium!
Sakko chemistry seems very stable hopfully the density is better than 4680. I think tesla will just make their cells taller or hopfully switch to square lfp cells for cheaper vehicles. We need usa based LFP. Their LFP vehicles have basically the same range as their 2170 cars. We need cheaper options that qualify for thw tax credits.
According to the report by Sandy last week, its "Chemically Agnostic" requiring a patented proprietary process to prepare the materials for use in this cell. Cycle life should be variable dependent on the chemistry.... As with other cells.
Sakuu showed 1,200+cycles and retaining 80-85% of the originally capacity. Check the munro live longer video from a few weeks ago! So at 200 miles of rated range they are good for 250,000+miles easily. 😎
Tesla doesn't appear to be looking at it at this time. If they're market validated they could make their way into China made models. None of those use structural packs.
It's a growing concern. He's made clear he's not afraid of being hated. Would just be nice if he understood the position of power that comes with a megaphone of that caliber.
Your first question should be "Is there anything about this on Munro live?" If there was, you MIGHT watch that and see if there was an answer to your question.... Maybe?
A few things come at me, did Sandy actually mean anodize because anodize is an anodic coating and does not typically conduct? Alodine is a chemical conversion coating and is so thin the metals still conduct which could cause a galvanic response. Second, can the new flat battery double as a structural battery pack as the 4680 cylindrical canister does (dual use)? Last, what is up with Sandy’s body language. He seems to have lost his jubilance and fanboy attitude. Did he get a Ross Gerber type smackdown from someone at Tesla? He publicly stated he thinks vision is not enough for FSD. I believe he said something about inferred heat sensors awhile back.

The voltage of a battery depends on the chemistry of the battery itself,
in other words, it depends on the pair of anode and cathode materials.

An armoured box like the cybertruck. Foam to lock them in place.
