I watched Inspector Gadget three (3) times a day for about three (3) years as a kid. It could be classified as Anime. Brain is the true hero of the show and very Warner Bros.
There are multiple older fictional characters that were part of the inspiration for Inspector Gadget. Two of them were Inspector Juaque Cleatsue (Pink Panther series) and Inspector Zenigata (Lupin the third franchise)
I remember watching this cartoon in the late 80s, it was a lot of fun 😆. I remember in the episode that has the family going to Transylvania, I loved the moment when Gadget saves the Penny and Brain from falling off the cliff on their way to Dracula's castle 🏰.
People may knock him, but French Stewart was not a bad Gadget, he was leagues better than Broderick (who if he hadn’t committed vehicular homicide, Inspector Gadget probably would have been the most horrible thing he’d be remembered for) in the direct to video sequel which if they had managed to get rid of the horrible gadget mobile it would have actually been a completely enjoyable movie. But I agree if we had Kramer instead of Ferris Bueller it could have actually been a hell of a movie instead of a “what the hell?” Movie
Another fun fact that people don’t often remember Heathcliff and the Cadillac Cat’s (the 3rd time Heathcliff got a series) featured Gadget as a background character, often on TV sets in the Cat’s universe. Also in one instance the Cadillac Cats made a cameo in an alley on Inspector Gadget.
Later episodes would feature characters like Captain Cape-Man, a hero-worshiping nerd in a homemade superhero costume, and Les Renowned, a retired gangster and mentor to Dr Claw.
Captain Cape-man was, just MY opinion unnecessary and endlessly annoying, both to Penny and Brain, AND the viewers. Side note: Why would everyone think that Inspector Gadget was SO good at his job, if he never was!? I think, at some time, he WAS a competent and effective police agent, but, something went wrong during surgery to implant his cybernetics. This affected his mind, memories, AND, personality, to the point it is when we first meet him! Penny and Brain, have been the ONLY ones to notice this, and, since Brain, at least, has come along on some of Gadget's prior missions, you'd think he'd notice and recognize him despite him being in disguise, but, he doesn't, giving further credence to my theory he's not in optimum condition! This also gives a reason why, on occasion, Gadget's technology sometimes goes berserk, it doesn't recognize his mental OR oral commands.i

Don Adam’s would also reprise his voice for Gadget in a series of educational videos on Geography called Inspector Gadget’s Field Trips. He would also voice the character of Gadget Boy for that perspective series and it’s specials. He however was long done by the time Gadget and the Gagetinis came out. He would however do a cameo for the movie voicing Brain in the credits (about the only good thing in that whole train wreck of my childhood)

Thank you so much for doing an inspector Gadget video! This is one of my favorite 80s cartoons. I also love the fact that they always hid Dr. Claw's face! Ha ha ha! Great job. I hope you will also do videos on the movies and the reboot because while the original version is still the best, I have a lot of respect for each different version that came out later.
I love the theory that claw is the real gadget and that he just wants to get back at the robot that took his place and the agency that turned him into what he is now.
The 1999 film adaptation was my introduction to Inspector Gadget, I know it's not great but it means a lot to me and it got me intrigued in animatronic effects done in movies. I have respect towards the cartoon and its follow up and Netflix reboot, I honestly hope that the writers for the upcoming reboot film knows a lot about Gadget cause after the disaster that was Home Sweet Home Alone, I'm a little worried.
Exactly and just as well, the Inspector Gadget origin story portrayed in that movie made much more sense than the cartoon version, we even got to see Dr Claw's true face
@@damianprock1650 as a fan of the show the reveal of Dr. Claw’s face was an absolutely appalling choice (only exceeded by turning the gadget mobile into an obnoxious sidekick and Matthew Broderick’s abhorrent acting), what made Dr. Claw such a chilling villian was his air of mystery being identified by his chilling voice, his spiked gauntlet and his chair… revealing his face so shortly into the movie and giving him that ridiculous cyborg crab pincher was a slap in the face to the character, seems even Disney Realized so as claw went back into the shadows for the direct to video sequel.

I also watched it on Starz Encore Family in 2016 (along with Super Mario 3, Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and Heathcliff and the Catillac Cats), during the 2010s.
So you mentioned Chief Quimby giving the missions but forgot to mention the Mission Impossible gag they repeat with him, the exploding message. Good one, what a classic.
As a kid of the 1970 and 1980s.I watched Don Adam' first as Tennessee Tucsdo which was educational. He would show up on Scooby-Doo as him self.I saw gadget it was in a special where he help stop Dr claw plains.
Awesome,I remember at some point as a kid I watched the animated series along with Gadget Boy animated series & the live action films of Inspector Gadget.Absolutely loved them.
Don Adams is Agent 86, Maxwell Smart on "Get Smart." Even though the role wasn't made for him, the similarities between the shows are worth noting (and you should seriously watch the original airing of Get Smart if you're an Inspector Gadget fan).
There's a lot of missed opportunities with inspector gadget. He could be coming to grips with the fact that he's just not human anymore. There's body horror elements already embedded in his character, on top of that his task force has to live with the fact that basically a corpse of their old friend is walking around without his memories, operating at half of the mental capacity that the original Augustine Tamare used to have. There is an opportunity to have a very compelling story about what it means to actually be a human being, the indomitable human spirit, and even stories about the horror of Inspector gadget's entire situation, but it's never been fully realized.
Inspector Gadget was the inspiration for the Anime: Conan, Case Closed! An investigator was checking in on a Pharmaceutical company; which was up to no good. Company agents capture him and force fed him a experimental chemical ; which causes age regression. They hoped he would regress into a still born baby. He got lucky and stopped aging; but his body was regressed into a small boy. He goes to a scientist friend and is equipped with special gadgets. He helps his girlfriend's (Police Inspector), Father solve crimes without him finding out. Conan would uncover the clues having to do with a crime. Then with his gadgets; he makes the detective go into a trance state. Using a voice changer in his bow tie; he mimics the inspector's voice to rat out the true criminals to the police force.
Few points you got wrong there, the criminals didn’t hope he’d become a baby, they hoped the poison would kill Conan. 2 don’t think unless you read this somewhere Inspector Gadget was the inspiration for Conan’s gadgets so much as James Bond. As far as regression of the protagonist there are a few other examples that could inspire that such as Dark Schneider from Bastard or Space Ace or even The Thing from Fred and Barney meet the Thing
Grew up in the 80's and the show was cool for kids was because the girl(Penny, who was a kid) and the dog(Brain) were the smart ones and saved the day and all they cared about was helping Inspector Gadget.
I was hoping he would hit on theories about why Chief Quimby always handed Gadget a self destruction letter and he would end up taking the punch of said letter.
I like the fan theory that Penny and Brain built Inspector Gadget to replace the real one when he died. However he didn't really die, but got disfigured and went insane, becoming Dr Claw. Which is why Claw is not only intent on destroying the Gadget replica, but also doesn't hurt Penny.
Thanks for the interesting video. Liked this show as a child. The german intro song was very catchy. Compared to the 80´s animated version the modern cgi version looks bad and cheap. This is the case in general with modern cgi remakes of most 80´s and 90´s animated shows.
My threoy is that Penny is the real police dectective while Gagget thinks he is the dectective and the police cheif uses him as a distraction to draw Claw's attention while Penny & Brain do the real police work!
Are we absolutely sure Dr Claw wasn't voiced by retired professional wrestler Ole Anderson? Lol cause the voice over he did for the debut of The Shock Master back in the early 90s in WCW sounds hilariously similar lol
From the episodes I remember Penny & her dog Brain were the ones doing all the work. I mean she has a computer hidden inside her book that she uses to track Claw & her uncle the books does have other uses. I don't think Gadget is aware that his niece & dog are doing all the crime fighting. And what's so endearing is Penny doesn't act like a bitch about it she doesn't mind her uncle getting all the credit she knows how he is & he does everything he can to keep her safe. Penny & Brain are unbeknownst to Gadget his secret weapons.
I much prefer the animated series. Inspector Gadget was a double slam of both Peter Sellers’ Inspector Jacques Cousteau from the Pink Panther films and Don Adams’ Maxwell Smart. It also had a running gag on Mission: IMPOSSIBLE’s self destruct tape, usually with Gadget’s Chief getting the worst of it. And Dr. Claw was a double wink to both the live action Doctor No and SPECTRE’s Ernst Stavro Blofeld.
I could never figure out if he was a robot or a dude with gadgets. I kind of considered it Get Smart! The Animated Series…cause I’m old. I think there is a little bit of Maxwell Smart ( who was co created by Mel Brooks)
As a kid, I hated watching gadget because he was an idiot. His niece solved everything with her ipad. I wished for a non goofy gadget . He could finally kick ass as the main hero.
I remember this cartoon from the eighties, and it was funny, and I:(unfortunately), have that live action film based on this character on vhs tape too🤦🏻♂️🙄, and there is a guy I went to school with who believed that Dr. Claw’s face looked like the MAD Organization logo, yet that was his theory at that time.
Gadget was my favorite hero character back in the 80s! Yeah he wasn't smart in the point to solve the case but i liked his character and how funny he was.The 2018 series i think was a continuation and not a remake because the series stating having gadget trapping dr claw in an iceberg and thus defeating him! From there claw used also his nephew to help him in the episodes. Was pretty cool but not reaching the standards of the classic! Also i do remember an episode from the original series that shows how he became like that.Mad agends left a bomb in his yard while he was taking a rest i think! Not by a banana pill and stuff! Not sure if its official but you can take a peek of dr claw's face on an snes game, and an action figure which depicts him as a grey hair and mustache classic evil dr etc! For me claw never showed his face in the series thus i believe that in the game & toy this might not be acurate at all!
Let me put it this way. the way inspector gadget was in the pilot episode versus. the rest of this series I'd have say is like night day Let me put it this way. OK, in the pilot, it seems like he kinda knows what he's doing. but the rest of the series. he doesn't have a clue. And yeah, he's supposed to be a really famous detective. No, he is not. However, here's something I didn't know before that I found out. And I'm kinda wondering why didn't think of this before. I'm thinking maybe the reason why he doesn't get hurt is being hurt is because either one he's extremely lucky. Or two. The rest of the world really doesn't know that he has no idea what he's doing. And by the way, I forgot to mention this. There are. three versions of the pilot episode. 1. is the Jesse White version. Two is the Gary Owens version. And three. is using the voice that most people associate with inspector gadget. Yeah. but ironically, but Jesse White version has never been heard. At least not to my knowledge. That's my guess. What do you think?

After Inspector Gadget left on Nickelodeon in April 29 2000, it then returned to The Family Channel (again, now Freeform), which by that point had become the Fox Family Channel (though by the time Gadget returned to that channel, it was mere months away from becoming ABC Family), which aired it from September 4 to December 14, 2001, during the 2000s (along with Garfield and Friends, Bad Dog and The Kids From Room 402). I also watched it on Starz Encore Family in 2016 (along with Super Mario 3, Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and Heathcliff and the Catillac Cats), during the 2010s.
They must make a cartoon that explores the origins of inspector gadget and dr claw
Oh, yes, Inspector Gadget was one of my favorite cartoons as a kid, watching reruns in the early 90's.
Inspector gadget is one of my favorite cartoons of all time
So you mentioned Chief Quimby giving the missions but forgot to mention the Mission Impossible gag they repeat with him, the exploding message.
Good one, what a classic.
I'd love a live action inspector gadget show either for kids or adults
I miss watching it in the nineties.
Inspector Gadget, Penny and Dr Claw are my favorites in this franchise.
No Brain?
@@Homeschoolsw6 he's my fourth
mad cat sings
and mad cats reaction towards the gadget robot
❤
My childhood memories !!!
Everyone is great and Claws is my favorit charactor
With Inspector Gadget taking all the acclaim in those cases, all the heat and attention would be off his niece Penny and their super smart dog Brain!
I enjoyed the episode where Dr.Claw met his Japanese counterpart a mystery man who is just as dangerous as Claw.
Imagine just how powerful he could be as a serious cop and not the lovable goofy guy everybody loves.
MAD is pronounced "Mad", not "Em-Ay-Dee". And the way, the original Inspector Gadget cartoon needs a season 3.
😂😂😂😂😂 just watch RoboCop its not that deep 😂😂😂
Awesome 👏
love that music by Shuki Levy!
Brings back good memories
Then with his gadgets; he
makes the detective go into a trance state. Using a voice changer in his bow tie; he mimics
the inspector's voice to rat out the true criminals to the police force.
Idk who owns the rights but a live action show could work
After Disney defiled the character, the idea of more live action leaves a bad taste in some of us older fan’s mouths
@@hdofu with the right script tone and cast it could work keep it simple and no origin story
Grew up in the 80's and the show was cool for kids was because the girl(Penny, who was a kid) and the dog(Brain) were the smart ones and saved the day and all they cared about was helping Inspector Gadget.
Definitely a good episode this show brings me back
Also apple really should be paying royalties to Penny for her inventing the IPad and the Apple Watch
Out of all his gadgets lol his phone was the dopest to me
I was hoping he would hit on theories about why Chief Quimby always handed Gadget a self destruction letter and he would end up taking the punch of said letter.
Old school tv 80 cartoons 😁😒😉
My favorite characters on the show are:
Inspector Gadget
Penny
Brain
Chief Quimby
Dr. Claw
Corporal Capeman
I like the fan theory that Penny and Brain built Inspector Gadget to replace the real one when he died. However he didn't really die, but got disfigured and went insane, becoming Dr Claw. Which is why Claw is not only intent on destroying the Gadget replica, but also doesn't hurt Penny.
Thanks for the interesting video. Liked this show as a child. The german intro song was very catchy.
Compared to the 80´s animated version the modern cgi version looks bad and cheap. This is the case in general with modern cgi remakes of most 80´s and 90´s animated shows.
I love inspector gadget
The only time Dr. Claw's face was ever revealed was when they made an Action Figure based on him.
We need a new inspector gadget movie.
done with a proper budget.
I love the 2015 Series I kinda wished there were 10 seasons
My threoy is that Penny is the real police dectective while Gagget thinks he is the dectective and the police cheif uses him as a distraction to draw Claw's attention while Penny & Brain do the real police work!
Are we absolutely sure Dr Claw wasn't voiced by retired professional wrestler Ole Anderson? Lol cause the voice over he did for the debut of The Shock Master back in the early 90s in WCW sounds hilariously similar lol
"STIIIINNNGGGG!"
It was the Black Scorpion! 🦂
He's also the way he is BECAUSE of it being the 1980s.
there is no part cyborg. it is either or. Cyborg=part organic and part machine.
My childhood😁
Inspector gadget. Dundundundun duùnnn.
I was looking for a video about how Inspector Gadget was conceived. Something to do with Lupin III iirc.
Inspector Gadget was more capable when he had a moustache; the second he got rid of it, he became incompetent. He needs to grow it back! 😅
I loved that series very much 😃
80s Gold
Go go Gadget Like button!
I watched that show on TH-cam and my favourite character is penny
My fave characters in the show are penny and dr claw
I still think Claw was secretly Destro from G.I.Joe.😁
The original was a Canadian-French animation series.
I watched it as kid
As a kid, I hated watching gadget because he was an idiot. His niece solved everything with her ipad. I wished for a non goofy gadget . He could finally kick ass as the main hero.
Wasn't there a episode were Dr Claw was shown in his chair and it was just a Claw 😆
There was a bit like that in the opening credits, but it was a trap to trick Gadget.
Good thesis on the show, "Inspector Gadget", but, he seems to have a tendency to repeat certain bits of information, a bit too much.
…… I’m surprised they didn’t feature this in Stranger Things seeing how it’s the same time period
I'LL GET YOU NEXT TIME GADGET .. NEXT TIME ..
