I loved realizing that The Voice was indeed the architect of the prison. It all fell into place for me once he said "But I couldn't defeat my finest creation." or something like that. Everything he said after that made so much more sense!

As I understand, he was the one who made the prison, but he was imprisonned too and became a jailer.

Spoilers ahead!
The Voice (Bunnydude) was one of the Jailers, and was the architect of the entire prison. His room was the very one there is no boss in, which is made clear from his dialogue if you listen closely. The reason he betrayed his colleagues is simple: he wanted to see his daughter again. This need grew so great over the years of serving as a jailor that he would do anything to see her - including destroying the entire world. That's why he busted you out and why he keeps busting you out every time you get a game over: you're his only chance for him to see his child again. All the times he talks about having hope for the world beyond or about you changing is him hoping that you've changed enough to defy your orders and destroy the mothership.
With him kinda admitting that he almost went mad being jailer, it's a sort of win-win situation for him, even if a very selfish one.
1) His guilt trip plan works out on rider, world is saved, he lives on with his daughter.
2) Rider assimilates the planet, Voice still gets to see his daughter before they die.
3) He could have spent the rest of his life being a jailer like other guardians, but he proved to be selfish enough to risk whole world just to see his daughter.
Actual reasons for rebellion are open to intepretation, with The Song supposedly trapping/making him a jailer against his will and The Line "giving him no warning to prevent things". Also, it would seem from the way he talks with rider throughout the game, that he was more open-minded and trying to understand this whole invasion thing more so than other guardians, who just tried to cage rider and "maybe figure things out later".
Bunny guy is architect AND father. Remember, he has a daughter that he wants to see again. So he came up with a plan to set the Stranger free so that he himself could escape the prison.
It's funny how I didn't care about the spoilers.
Ah, sad realization. The fact that you can go through the Voice's area without killing him means that the guardians don't actually need to die to pass. Meaning if the Stranger had been willing (or able) to communicate with them, it's possible that not all of them would have had to die.
Tristan Ruggeri Well The Voice manipulated him into killing them no matter what. "The jailer is the key, kill him then you'll be free", The Stranger doesn't know he can just go through the doors, and most of the Guardians are hostile towards him anyway.
Unfriendly Dude I feel like he would only need to kill The Song, The Chain, The Strap, The Burst, The Hand and The Scale
The others have their reasons to oppose The Stranger, and it's unlikely that a single chat would've gotten them to stand down.
The Chain was a sadist,
The Strap was insane and attacked anyone who came near her,
The Line could foresee The Stranger's role in the planet's destruction,
The Scale wanted revenge,
The Hand was a knight who was duty-bound to keeping The Stranger contained,
The Song believed she could reform The Stranger by keeping him captive,
The Burst was a narcissistic hunter who saw The Stranger as prey,
The Edge legitimately wanted to fight The Stranger to test his abilities,
and The Beat knew what would happen if The Stranger was allowed to set foot on the planet.
The fact remains that any of these guardians could've surrendered at any point during their battles, but chose to fight on anyways because they couldn't forget the damage that he wrought of their planet the first time.

The Stranger was locked up because he was sent to destroy the planet, of course they wouldn't let him out. He's killed before, and he plans to do it again
The tone and the lisp when The Voice says "there is a fine line between love and madness" reminds me so much about Justice in Afro Samurai. Which is fitting, since this game was inspired by that IIRC.
The artist who made Afrosamurai also worked on Furi. All bosses are designed by him.
I did not expect to care so much about these characters.

No one's replied here yet, so I just wanted to say I appreciate all the writing you've done under the other videos. Especially this one because it's interesting to imagine what it would've been like to fight the Voice, a man who can move faster than a shot from the Burst.

The writing, is so minimalistic yet so brilliant.
It's not his fighting capability that made him crack, it was the farewell.
This is probably my favorite walk song, by far.

Kinda fucked up when you think about how The Architect probably used to know/work with the other Guardians.
I wonder what was going through his mind as he walked with The Rider, talking shit about his friends in an attempt to work him up, to make The Rider ready to kill them. And then he has to watch. And then pretend to be happy that The Stranger just murdered them.
Even if getting The Rider to kill the guardians and escape was humanity’s only hope, The Architect still probably felt pretty conflicted about the whole thing. He either saves his friends but ends the world, or kills his friends to simply have a *chance* at saving it, not even any guarantees.
If he didn’t have the thought of seeing his daughter again, who knows? He may have never let The Rider out, and the world would’ve been doomed.
They were not friends per say, there were colleagues. He respected some of them, and despised others... That's why he doesn't care, he wants to see his daughter that much, that he's not "The Architect" no more, he's just a father.

Because of this song and set me free I realized why I love this soundtrack so much.Every song is like an extension to the bosses you fight.At the start of this you get a low brooding beat similar to the whole song of set me free symbolizing madness.Then you get hit with a constant calm melody, symbolizing intellect or the voices architect side.
You don't fight the voice though, and the song symbolizes the fact there is no difference between love and madness, it's the same key features, it's obession, possession.
The architect wants to see his child, he is mad from love, he will see the world wither and die to see his daughter again (quite literally)
This soundtrack is amazing even outside of the game. I listen to the soundtrack every week but I only beat 2 bosses so far so I never heard most of the soundtrack in game yet and I still find this OST so damn good.

I think you were originally going to judging from "shambles", but then you wouldn't have a narrator/guide to fill in the walks and not have any motivation for saving the world and fighting at the star.

@@TheHappyMadman True point, but they're each great companions in their own way. To compare the two would be a waste of time. They each support the player in their own perfect little way.
The Voice is a pretty good fellow at encouraging you to carry on but he seems untrustworthy to me. For me my favorite companion character in a video game is Midna or Grimoire Weiss.
I think Elizabeth from Bioshock was a pretty great companion too, though I enjoyed The Voice's dialogue way more.

I was curious about fighting him and seeing his fighting style
you could say as "the voice" how he really fights is speaking to influence others...
as the architech who knows the place, most likely using the environment to his advantage.
Given the implied genius mind required to build the prison in the first place, and undoubtedly the intimate knowledge of its defense systems as a result, his ability to casually defy physics and warp around at will, and the very wide-open style of what would have been his arena, I imagine The Voice would’ve been some wild hybrid between The Burst and The Beat, keeping you at range the entire time while actively turning the prison’s systems on you as his means of “fighting,” and whenever you manage to get too close, teleporting away.
This would continue on for several cycles until you wore him out from teleporting (when you first find him in his arena, he’s propping himself up on his mic stand and breathing heavily, suggesting a possible limit to his powers that he might have been pushing in order to be mysterious and mystical up to then), at which point you would snap into CQC mode and he would be very much like final stage Beat, where you’re just slapping him around while he desperately tries to dodge because his physical prowess simply can’t compare.
And as for the mic stand, I imagine that would act like some kind of voice trigger for the prison systems, like he would speak into that and give specific orders that would determine what he hits you with next.
this games soundtrack is one of the best OSTs I have ever heard in a game, close to the OST of Tempest 2000 !!!

Everytime I see a someone on a non Nier Related video bring up Nier it makes me smile and hope for more exposure for the sequel. Though the small increase of Nier ive seen lately is probably just because of the SBFP LP rather than people actually playing it TBH.

No, I think it wasn't implemented because it was very clear that complete invasion of Rider and his clones were going to destroy the planet. Why waste effort trying to stop it? Spend the little time left embracing your daughter, comforting her, staying by her side. It would have made 0 sense for the Voice to fight you. He's an intellectual, that would be a move with absolutely 0 sense behind it, logical or emotional.
@@ApexGale Agreed. I also think it was the best possible way to reveal that he is (or was) a jailer. You know, since we all watched Afro Samurai and thought his floating around and only talking to you meant he was imaginary.

Does anyone know the name of the song directly after this one? It's not 'Carpenter Brut - You're mine,' the Burst's boss fight song. There is one that plays during the walk/path to The Burst that's missing from the OST.

None the less unwanted. The combat was amazing and the bosses unique.The story enthralling and the characters amazing. Why ruin the story with a sequel?
